A ship won't go straight into the line of fire, speacialy if it can shoot you from afar, and shooting a moving target while moving and rocking away in the waves, or in a storm, aint that easy, canons weren't made to be shot at point blank range......... (in one piece anyway xD, real pirates just blindly fire)

There are some that do two things, like im a lookout and gunner, yuki is a weather man and a scout. Or more so we can fill those positions couse they fit our characters
