I have an overarching plot laid out already and you're all in for some rough times :D The most likely scenario is you guys are going to be taking sides with the rulers. It doesn't seem likely now, but well . . . PLOT. We'll see....plus, there is a whole neutral side....and some of them, might decide to not be neutral....and not join the rulers....if you can get my string :P
