With historical RP, I simply suggest doing research into the gender roles of the society you wish to emulate.

As for fantasy, I say do whatever. I mean, I kind of doubt any kind of feudalistic society with hereditary rule would be devoid of sexism, but it's not theoretically impossible. After all, Ancient Egypt had a few female pharoahs.

I don't usually write very low-tech worlds (I do like anachronistic worlds, though. Have like, a revolutionary era America sandwiched between ancient Rome and feudal Japan), so the societies I write are generally slightly above sexism, and when I do write a sexist society, I usually prefer to write matriarchal societies based off of insect colonies.

Colonialism makes things better for the settlers and their empire but ruins the lives of the Native inhabitants

I would argue that it also helps the Natives...after the empire has left and gone home.

I don't think anyone's come close to comparing it to Nazi Germany.

I was using an extreme hypothetical example. Not an actual example. Sorry.
A principle I have on corporate rights and restrictions:
Any rights you would give a person, give to corporations.
Any restrictions you would give a person, give to corporations.
So, just apply any environmental restrictions you'd put on people, and put them on corporations, and vice versa.

I have a utilitarian free-market stance on the environment. Look at the story of the Lorax, for example. If the once-ler had been environmentally responsible, he'd still be in business. Business exists to sell the Earth's natural resources to you, the consumer. They cannot do this if there are no natural resources. For that matter, being environmentally responsible does work in your favor in a marketing sense.
My understanding of the Indian-Settler conflict is that it's largely been exaggerated. While the settlers weren't good, the conflict was very, very far from black and white (more like light grey and normal grey) and comparing it to say, Nazi Germany would simply be wrong.
I think I'd like to do metroid, if anyone's interested.

"Now, I don't suppose you'll be wanting some sort of reward for help-"
Lewis never finished checking things off. Luckily, he really had all the time in the world. In fact, with the new string of visitors he was about to receive, he would have had to redone the math anyways.
When he heard the THUNK he put his hand on his gun. He had initially assumed it was Mackinzie dropping something or something like that. It didn't take long to realize the sound had come from outside the fence. He unholsters his weapon and follows Mackenzie out. He says "I think you're just going to scare him off, Mackenzie." Beat. "Maybe it was just an animal." Then again, many animals were just as dangerous as zombies. In retrospective, perhaps cloning entelodonts and Unenlagia during the zombie apocalypse was a bad idea.
