Lol, well I used to play violin so I guess I can relate. I just didn't have the patience for it, though I still pick it up every once in a while and remind myself why I don't play anymore. I keep thinking that someday I'll just start practicing again and maybe be pretty good, but… that hasn't quite worked out yet.

I actually picked up an electric violin from a garage sale last year, and that's pretty fun. I may start practicing with that more, since I can just plug headphones into it so no one else has to really hear it.

Sure sounds like it. I've been trying to work out my financial aid for this next semester, a few of my classmates have already left because of financial trouble. I'm on break till the end of the month though so that's nice, although I'm already bored after being home for just one day, and I don't currently have a car to drive. I've also got to measure and cut out a bunch of fabric because I'm making Ezio's costume from AC2, so I guess that will keep me busy for a little while. It's kind of fun, I've never made a costume from scratch before so I'm trying to be extra careful with the measuring and cutting since I don't have an exact pattern, just measurements and what I've seen in tutorials. Eh, we'll see how it turns out. I like having a project.

I've been pretty busy myself this last week, finally on break now. I went and saw The Giver. It sucked. Just read the book.

Second seasons are aways disappointing. I only watched two episodes of SOA's second season and I had to stop because it was so dumb. They should've stopped, I liked the ending of the first season, it could easily have been the end of the anime.

Light is weird.

The thing I appreciate most about light is how Griffin uses it to formulate the theory for his invisibility in The Invisible Man. Hang on, lemme see if I can dig it up.

Here it is:

Excerpt from The Invisible Man that took me a long time to transcribe

"…You know I dropped medicine and took up physics? No!--well, I did. Light fascinated me.

"Optical density! The whole subject is a network of riddles--a network with solutions glimmering elusively through. And being but two and twenty and full of enthusiasm, I said 'I will devote my life to this. This is worth while.'

"I went to work. And I had hardly worked and thought about the matter six months before light cam through one of the meshes suddenly--blindingly! I found a general principle of pigments and refraction,--a formula, a geometrical expression involving four dimensions… But this was not a method, it was an idea, that might lead to a method by which it would be possible, without changing any other property of matter,--except, in some instances, colours,--to lower the refractive index of a substance, solid or liquid, to that of air--so far as practical purposes are concerned."

"Yes, yes," said Kemp [the guy he's explaining this all to, and our resident skeptic]. "But a man's not powdered glass!"

"No," said Griffin. "He's more transparent!"

"Nonsense!"

"That from a doctor! How one forgets! Have you already forgotten your physics, in ten years? Just think of all the things that are transparent and seen not to be so. Paper, for instance, is made up of transparent fibres, and it is white and opaque only for the same reason that a powder of glass is white and opaque. Oil white paper, fill up the intersects between the particles with oil so that there is not longer refraction or reflection except at the surfaces, and it becomes as transparent as glass. And not only paper, but cotton fibre, linen fibre, wool fibre, woody fibre, and bone, Kemp, flesh, Kemp, hair, Kemp, nails and nerves, Kemp, in fact the whole fabric of a man except except the red of his blood and the black pigment of his hair, are all made up of transparent, colourless tissue. So little surfaces to make us visible one to the other. For the most part the fibres of a living creature are no more opaque than water."

So yeah, classic science-fiction, but it's cool to think that we're actually doing that sort of thing today. Not turning people invisible, mind you, but the opacity and visibility of objects can be changed at will, like smart glass and stuff.

Great book if you haven't read it.
