Samebito, these primitives are making me mad jelly with their talk of awesome shared history. Lets figure some shit out, and be best friends forever. Acier and Rinland are natural allies. I would offer the same to Mercatura, because of that capitalism, but seeing as it is a nation of the most hilarious Latin names ever, I reckon I'l hold off. [says Stephen, literally naming his country the French word for Steel]
So frighteningly soft biology aside in regards to "bio-energy" and how this lets the cell quickly create new complex molecules, does that mean that shitty Life Energy folks create tumors? And can a life mage instantly win any fight by for example causing the cells in the opponent's brain, heart or eyes to replicate way too fast and fuck everything up? Seems OP. Also, when you say chemical energy, do you just mean things are fueled by burning ATP? Because that is what I assumed, but the issue with that is that there is not TOO much energy available, so I am unsure as to your desired power level for the setting. Also, I'll get a character draft up soon, if that is OK.
Conservation of energy is the main thing: is energy in >= useful energy out? Also, on the topic of life and death powers, how do they work and what are their capabilities? From what I understand about life it is the manipulation of organic materials, but how does a person use it without knowing what the fuck is going on on a molecular level? Also, I completely forgot to ask, but what is the approximate technology level of the setting? Is it roughly analogous to a year range of earth history, or is shit all over the place? Also, now that the douchebaggery is out in the open, once these last questions are answered can I whip up a character?
I would love to join as a light mage, but being a fucking horrible pedant with a boner for logical settings, I may not be the best choice. My main question is, how much is known about the magic system, and do the laws of physics work the same way. For example, what are the crystals made of, and do people understand the atomic structure of material. Does gravity work the same way? Are life and death not biological things, but some sort of magic-y or spirit-y thing? If so, does brain damage exist, like can someone take a blow to the head and be just fine because their spirit exists outside the physical, or at least if things heal will they recount their experiences with perfect cognitive clarity? Is conservation of energy a thing? If so, things are going to be pretty fucking dull with the lightning elementalist, seeing as lightning is a very energetic thing. In fact, do people understand electricity? What is "Dark" magic? Is it controlling the absence of light? If so, do people understand that light is a thing, and can light benders with the knowledge of this fact be able to dark bend? Is water an element, or just ice? People must know ice=water, so can an Ice elementalist control water? Also, where does the ice, or the fuel for the fire come from? Right, I think that is enough questions for now, I am fairly certain I am missing the point, but on the off chance you like this level of asshole realism, please consider me. I have a pretty cool idea for a character I'd like to play. It seems like the elements are meant to give us "balance" which I am [possibly wrongly] interpreting as meaning to juxtapose our characters, so I was thinking a middle-class smart-ass [play what you know, right?] who has never worked a day in his life, and has an inordinately happy outlook on life due to the lack of real suffering he has experienced. Light is an uncaring, unfeeling thing that shows us the good and the bad, and there is a metaphor in there somewhere for the kind of rationalistic scientifically-minded inquisitive character being shown the best and worst of the world. Also, it seems broken AF if I can control different parts of the EM spectrum. [oh shit that's another question - what frequencies can I control. Is it just visible light? Can a light wizard, with effort, create infra-red radiation? If so, fire mages are SOL]
@So Boerd Modified Majestic class will be the main ships of my navy then. They only represent doctrinal rather than technological advances from the Royal Sovereign class of the late 80s near as I can tell.
That seems reasonable: I am taking a few liberties with my service rifle, so I have no issues with pushing the ship designs a few years forward.
Feel free to have them be from Acier.
Faze, I'm going to have to ask you to tone down the Latin: at least bastardize it. Right now you have "Doge Merchant", "Queen Girl", "General Battle" and "Head Merchant Death Life" [mortem is the accusative, when there is no verb to be the object of. What's up with that?]. Also, some consistency in the military would be good but not necessary. Why is the navy "The Ocean of Kings", and the Army "The Kings of the Earth"? Also, you cannot melt down diamonds, then they would not be diamonds but just some random carbon. Platinum is a fucking terrible metal for warfare, seeing as it is expensive as shit and malleable AF, so why would you tip bayonets with it. Flintlocks are 250 years out of date at least, depending on where you look, and it is implied that you think we are using ships of the line, seeing as you say your ships "carry many cannon". Ironclads are the thing to have now, with the modern warship being developed slowly but surely.
Afraid that location is claimed by our illustrious GM.
Jesus christ everyone and their mum is making an ethnically German nation. I guess it is time for me to go full Baguette and rock that French lifestyle. They had the best guns of the period anyways.
Sounds good Rhymer. Now I have the commies AND the aristos knocking down my fucking door.
