Ryozan's spirits seemed to be lifted a bit, albeit subtly, by Takeo's offer. "Yes, it would be an honor to meet your family, so long as I wouldn't be imposing," he said, glad for the invitation, but at the same time not wanting to seem too pitiable. It was true that circumstances had left him alone at the moment, but his circle of friends was never terribly large to begin with. He could work with others well enough, but he was the type who simply liked to keep a few close friends, while leaving plenty of time for himself. But after all he had been through lately, he would certainly welcome some good-natured company. After all, being a bit solitary didn't make him completely anti-social.

That was when a girl with the distinctive eyes of the Hyuga clan approached them. Kaede was her name, but he didn't have much time to learn anything else, or even to introduce himself, since she seemed to be in a rush. And the way Takeo passed him off to her like a baton was awkward to say the least, but from what he could tell the girl seemed nice enough. At the very least she didn't seem to be annoyed by his presence, which was a good start. He followed Kaede as she proceeded into the compound, keeping his questions to himself until such a time as introductions seemed to be in order. It wasn't long, though, before they came up to a building and were greeted by Chizuma.

Seeing as Kaede hadn't even heard his name yet, Ryozan supposed it was up to him to introduce himself. "Good evening," he began in a polite tone. "My name is Ryozan Tanzo. Takeo-san invited me to spend the night with his granddaughter..." As soon as those last words left his mouth, he realized that they sounded much worse than they had in his head. Not wanting to make a lecherous first impression he tried to recover. "Ah, well, since I have nobody to be with tonight he thought it would be good for me to meet her." Did that sound any better? He wasn't sure, but the sudden heat he felt on his face told him that he was blushing, the realization of which made him blush even more. Perhaps Kaede would be able to salvage things...
Breathe in, breathe out. Sense the entirety of the universe within you, past, present, and future all actualized in this one moment. Just as the entirety of the moon is reflected in a single dewdrop, so is the Truth reflected in one's soul...

Hayazo began every day with an hour of meditation. He had learned quickly that clearing his mind like that was the only way to make himself receptive to swordsmanship, which is why he had gravitated towards this school in particular. He didn't learn through the skill-and-drill practice that was so common throughout the land; he learned by putting himself into a mental state that was appropriate for learning. After meditating, he was always able to understand the master's words more clearly and could feel the movements of his body much more precisely. In fact, the quality of his technique seemed to be inversely proportionate to the time since his last meditation. But now he was refreshed, and it was time to begin the day. The other students would probably be arriving soon, if they hadn't already, so he made his way out of the building and into the entrance and greeted the few people that were there with a bright and cheerful "good morning!"
Name: Takashi, Hayazo
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Dojo: Hachiro
Student Rank: San-Dan

Appearance:

Personality: Friendly, Easygoing, Generally Positive

Short Biography: Hayazo was born into a merchant family with many brothers and sisters. The Takashi family, though well off, was so saturated with children that they sent them out to learn various trades to expand the family's prestige. Hayazo found himself taking up the sword from a very young age. He was first rejected by the Akihiro dojo after training for a month but showing no notable progress, however, he found the Hachiro dojo more suited to his learning style. He now lives at the school performing daily chores to earn his keep while having his parents take care of any fees for studying.

Notes: Hayazo is far from the best swordsman at the school, and his technique is most commonly described as "sloppy," but he excels in the Zen teachings, particularly the philosophical aspects.

Still here
Q was no exception in analyzing what little he could about his new partners. First there was H, the young woman who wore formal attire, but had an athletic build. Q sensed a sort of confidence emanating from her, though she did seem quite a bit less arrogant than the others in the room. And speaking of arrogant, there was G, the older man with the translator who was now offering to arrange their private meeting. He returned the offer with a small grin. "Coffee sounds good," he said as he returned the papers to his briefcase. Then, he switched over to English for a moment and said, "I am actually more fluent in English than Japanese. If it is more convenient for the two of you," he gestured to H as well, "we can conduct our business in that language instead." He made his way to the door, waiting for H to follow.
Ok, no rush. This is a learning thread so make sure you have plenty of time to think about your posts.

The rivalries between the detectives are fun to watch. :P

Yes indeed. I have a good feeling about this RP.
Ryozan calculated Karela's speed as she ran towards him, and then he released the tension on his blade, letting the sword fly out of its sheath with blinding speed. "Wrong!" he shouted as he aimed his quickdraw slash in a wide arc, covering the entire area in front of him, but pulling back the range so that the blade would not bite into Karela's flesh during her frontal assault. The blade flashed in front of him just long enough to thwart the advance, and then he quickly snapped it back to its original position inside the sheath, ready to unleash another quickdraw slash. "As you see, I currently control the space in front of me. The range of my control is equal to the range of my sword plus my reach. You thought that the side I am leaning forward with was open, so you advanced on it, but I can afford to show you an opening because it is within the space I control. In short, the opening you chose to advance on put you first in the range of my sword attack. A head-on advance is not the correct way to defeat this stance, however you seem to have the tools to beat it. Here is your hint: what is the range of your Kunai compared to the range of my sword?"
"If I remember correctly," Q said, feeding off of C's idea to provoke the killer, "the first Kira had addressed the public a number of times. If we want to assess the second Kira's personality, perhaps we could provoke him to address us as the first one did. We may even be able to convince him to tell us what his motive is, and we can gain a better grasp of his personality from his choice of words. I think this route is a bit more ethical than putting other humans in Kira's cross hairs. In addition, I would like to point out that we are not totally powerless in this situation. Presumably, Kira needs to get his information on criminals from somewhere. By manipulating information networks and evaluating his response to each situation, we may be able to force him to make some moves, giving us a chance to catch him in action. Yes, can something like this be arranged Chief?"
