After they established the plan was to fight the gym leaders and said goodbye to Carter's mom, the two headed off to route 2, the entrance to Viridian forest. Rosina had put Azurill back in his pokeball and was indifferent about not running into any tough pokemon on the way. When the two reached the mouth of the forest, a boy approached them from behind.
"Hey, do you mind if me and Elekid go through Viridian Forest with you two?" Rosina turned and smiled happily. "Oh, sure you can join ud! I'm Rosina, and this is Carter." she said, gesturing to her friend. The boy introduced himself as Lance and his Elekid did as well, and Rosina waved to it.
"C'mon, lets go!" she said excitedly and doing a little hop. They all went in and started making their way through the tall grass of the thick, maze-like forest. There were parts where they could avoid it, the tall grass, and they took that path only to return to the same maze of grass. A large gust of wind blew then and Rosina held down her red hair that was blowing around her face.
"Cott...toneeeee."
Rosina looked up to see a pokemon had been blown out of a nearby tree and drifted a few feet in front of her. "Aww! How cute." she said taking out her Pokedex. It chimed on and registered the pokemon.
"Cottonee. The Cotton Puff pokemon. Cottonee shoots cotton to distract its opponent when attacked, and travels around wherever the wind takes it."
She listened to the robotic voice of the pokedex before putting it away. "Okay, you are too cute not to be part of my team." she said to it, stepping closer.
"Cott...toneee...!" it said, backing away. The voice of the pokemon was deep and a little scared. Rosina figured it was probably a boy Cottonee.
"Its okay, i wont hurt you." she said moving closer. When she did, he shot out a sticky purple ball from its mouth. Rose quickly moved back, recognizing the move as Toxic.
"Okay, so you wanna fight?" she took Azurill's ball from her belt and tossed it. "Come help me out Azurill!"
"Azurill!" it said, eager to battle as it came out.
She wasted no time. "Azurill use water gun!"
"Rill!"
A jet of water forcefully shot out at the pokemon and it landed a hit, but all that happened was the Cottonee slowly lowered to the ground. Looking highly upset, a green ball formed at its mouth and shot out, hitting Azurill and making him fly into her. She stumbled back, catching him as the green ball faded into leaves. Oh no! That was energy ball! she said, worried for her pokemon.
"Azurill, you okay?" she asked, putting him down. He shook his little blue body and looked determined, but weak. He wouldn't be able to take another hit like that.
Then Rosina had an idea. Looking back at her friends, she said, "Lance, Carter, cover your ears!" she did the same then told Azurill, "Azurill, use Sing!"
Her pokemon nodded and started singing a quiet melody that caused a few Pidgeys to fall from the sky and land in the grass, asleep. A moment later she saw the Cottonee slowly drift off as well.
Waiting for her Azurill to look at her before removing her hands, Rosina reached into her bag and pulled out a pokeball. Tossing it at the Cottonee, it absorbed the pokemon and three wiggles later, made the sealing sound.
"Wooooo! We did it Azurill!" she said giving her pokemon a hi-five to his tail before going to get Cottonee's pokeball. Turning to Carter and Lance she smiled, returning Azurill to his ball too, clicking both onto her belt.
"You two can stop covering your ears now."
