You are right. However, the government, which will almost certainly win a revolution, will carry on as it did before the Mad Queen.
British army isn't having any of it, and neither is Parliament. Most senior officers are nobles, and the fact that Edward didn't go through proper channels but simply declared the Kingdom at an end. So instead, Parliament shall treat Edward's shocking pronouncement as an abdication and young Alfred shall be king. As he is too young, a regent will be appointed, probably a staunch conservative to restore order.

Pasta, I forgive your errors. However in the future, don't feel the least bit apprehensive asking us NRP/History buffs what the most realistic course of action for Britain is. We aren't here to win either. For example, we could have told you that Edward always wanted to rule and would have done so happily.
