Ruven had been to basic, and knew not to look at the sergeant as he was yelling at him. He straightened his back. Eric listened, and when his back was turned, watched the Sergeant yell at everyone in the room. Ruven was internally irritated with the NCO yelling at them, like they were all fresh recruits, but he also understood that the man was trying to force discipline and camaraderie upon them. Ruven listened to the Captain brief about them having to be officially on duty soon.

Once they could move, Ruven stepped to the bags and retrieved the items, putting the arm band on his left arm. He put the headband in his pocket, as he wouldn't be wearing it currently, at least, not until he was directed to. He grabbed the helmet, and the pda, and placed it in his pocket, while tucking the helmet under his arm. He left and headed to the armory. After a small wait, he was strapping his side arm to his thigh, tightening the his kevlar vest, and slung his weapon over his shoulder. He tightened it to his chest, so that it was pointing down, and he only needed one hand to steady it. Checking the safety one last time, began to head to the mess hall again. He acquired a second sandwich, and headed back to the bunks, to eat it, and wait until Echo squad was summoned and actually went on duty. As he sat next to his bed, eating his sandwich, he attached the pda to his belt, and wondered what they'd be doing. Investigating crop circles? Oh no, farmer brown's field has an unexplained phenomena. Get the black hawks and the men in suits, are coming to tell you that you lost some wheat.
Sorry if that post was difficult to follow, neph, I can edit it if you want. Just wanted it to be kinda ranty emotional explosion sorta stuff
Kyrtaar listened to Aevah. As she described the visions she saw, the dreadful cosmos in all their horrific glory. The descriptions were mostly mild to some of the things Kyrtaar had seen in his nights tossing and turning. Kyrtaar looked up at the sun, but he felt nothing outwardly malicious from it currently. She mentioned his book, which made him look back at her with a quick head motion. "My book? My book is... strange." He said, looking down at it on his waist. It was something he rarely even thought of now, and the literal weight was no more than a physical pound, but the metaphysical weight on him and the promise that it was his soul to be taken was something he rarely gave thought to, as an only 200 year old elf.

When they reached the forest line, Kyrtaar would begin to feel a slight chill, but he didn't know if it was just the paranoia of something, or actual magical properties to the area. The shade of the tree top canopy fell on them, reducing the sun's direct glare on them, and obscuring the vision of the cosmos on Kyrtaar's doings, making him conversely, also feel a bit more comfortable in the area. He looked for the Ravens and Magpies and birds Kylmie spoke of, but saw almost none, rather, he saw a complete lack of natural animal life in the immediate area, and the horses quickly began to whiny loudly, and even rear up at a certain point.

Once the horse refused proceed, Kyrtaar would dismount, and take the canteen from the saddle bag, and sling it around his shoulder. He tied the horse to a tree as well, assuming they'd be able to make it back by nightfall, but was only marginally sure that it was even a possibility. Kyrtaar could feel the magic in the area, making the hair on his neck and arms stand up. "We're in the right area, thats for sure" He said, looking at Aevah, not certain if she was sensitive to the magic in the air.

As they began their trek on foot Kyrtaar spoke. "I never told you about the dreams, the visions. Or the whole truth about why I left home" He paused for a moment, to collect his thoughts. He continued. "I made a promise. A pact. I sold my soul. I asked for power. The power to make my will a reality. I wanted to learn things no one had known, or things people had forgotten. I couldn't wield a sword exceptionally well. I was no able to use a bow with anything above average capabilities. Nor was I able to cast even the most basic incantations. So I didn't look to the fae, or whatever lives beneath us. No, I turned to the stars." Kyrtaar's face was filled with passion as he spoke. He looked up at the sky as he said it, the blue poking through the green as the sky peeked in. "No one knows what lives in the sky. No one, but me. I asked the very stars themselves for power." Kyrtaar's eyes glowed green as he said this, and green vapor misted off his hands as he said this to accentuate this point. His hair was glowing and perfect, his face full of youthful vigor.

Kyrtaar turned to look at Aevah with his glowing eyes, his brow furrowed. "The stars wanted my soul. So what? So what! I'll live to see 800 I said! But I forgot. The stars blink and its been 1000 years. I left my home because they didn't understand the power I had!" Kyrtaar was ranting now, his face fully contorted with sudden anger and rage. "No one understood! I did what I had to do to stand out! To be different! I didn't want to waste away in those woods, No! Fishing, and hunting, and trapping animals. I wanted to learn. I had no friends. No loved ones. They shunned me, so I left." Kyrtaar's eyes faded to their normal earthly tones, the power fading from view. He appeared mortal again. His long blonde hair looked course, and there were no wrinkles on his face, but the age and passage of time was apparent. Small scars became visible on his hands and face and neck and anywhere they were on his body. Kyrtaar looked at his hands, and his book, and up to Aevah. "Thats what you saw. Thats what you heard and dreamed. Mere shadows of some of the things I've seen. You saw the pact I made, the promise of the stars to devour my soul. They haunt me. But I don't care, not for their thoughts. And this book? Its a contract. I can't open it, and I suspect if I did, I couldn't read it. Its a literal reminder every day of the bounty." Kyrtaar finished. He had been standing in place, shouting, gesturing. It was an out of character burst of emotion for someone generally more composed. He felt emotionally drained, as he had never shared those details with anyone.

Kyrtaar looked at Aevah, unsure if she would fear him, or trust him more. If she would follow or leave. He turned and walked deeper into the woods.
shall stop being lazy and post tomorrow after work
Kyrtaar listened to Aevah's analysis of Elves versus Humans and silently agreed. He had come to mostly the same conclusions himself. When they went to sleep, the night terrors returned to Kyrtaar. He was walking across a field, an endless field. The horizon never moved, and there were no rolling hills to this earth. It was a flat grassy plain. As he silently walked, he saw a tree, and seeing no other options, approached. As he got closer and closer, the Earth below him started to cave in. It started as just the ground sucking at his feet, making walking harder and harder, but it became a literal pit as the very Earth itself tried to grab his soul. He ran to the tree and climbed it in desperation, but the Earth devoured the tree as well. Kyrtaar felt the pressure and heat of the young planet crushing and devouring him in a grim reminder that even the ground he stood on was a cosmological entity that longed for his soul.

Kyrtaar awoke several hours before Aevah, as he generally slept no more than 4 or 5 hours a night. He sat with his eyes closed, meditating on his dreams, and feeling for once, calm in the wash of the moon. When Aevah awoke, he would glance at her, and see the sweat beads on her forehead. When stirred and started packing, he did as well. He placed his bed roll in the side saddle, and took a drink of water from his canteen. He wrapped his cloak around his body, and equipped his sword and bow to his back, and mounted the horse. As they started the journey to the forest, Kyrtaar looked at Aevah again "Sleep well?" He asked, almost knowing from the distraught look on her face and sweat that she didn't. But if she lied and said yes, he wouldn't press her for anything.
Possibly just a consistency error, I described a large full moon in the night sky. So, it probably wouldn't be total darkness. Elves also are generally described in most lore as having excellent vision, and very good low light vision, so the elves probably wouldn't be blind. If you guys want me to remove the full moon mention from my post, I can, but I like the insanity posts I get to make.
Kyraar would listen attentively to Aevahs story. As the sun started to set, Kyrtaar would intentionally channel energies into his eyes to give a faint light off, lighting their faces. Kyrtaar's elven eyes would be able to see extremely far in the low light. When Aevah removed her Necklace, Kyrtaar would hold his hand out, and inspect it. He held it up to his face and spun it. Kyrtaar felt a faint magic to it, and handed it back to her. Kyrtaar would speak as he did so. "Akysrah is an old god. Before our friend the prince and his people drove them all away. I'd be lying if I said I knew everything about her. She was part of a pantheon of gods, although I do believe she was one of the lower gods. Kind of vague abilties. Could see future, past, and present all at once, and all possible outcomes. Some legends existed of her becoming easily confused. Some existed saying she was always lucid. She was mostly worshiped on an island off the cost called Sieran. Worshipers gave up their sight. The necklace you have is said to usually enhance the abilities of foresight, but that might be wrong. No one has had contact with the island in a while, and its said that there is a fog that keeps people out."

Kyrtaar continued listening to her information about the norn. But for a moment he zoned out, distracted by the rising moon. The fat, swollen moon. Fat, swollen, giant full moon. Burrowing into the back of his head. Worming, and seething it's way. Its parasitic tendrils reached into the base of his skull, pulling at the backs of his eyes. He felt his head pounding with pressure as the moon worked it's way into his head. And it was gone, and Aevah was still talking. Kyrtaar was sure he hadn't missed too much. When she finished, Kyrtaar "Good to know about this norn, and I'll keep myself guarded around her." Kyrtaar would continue by opening up about himself. He picked up on Aevahs blunt openness about himself, and decided it was only fair to be as open. "I lived at the base of the mountains. Small village, no name. Wasn't a particularly adept hunter, swordsman. Wizard. Anything. We traded around, but I wanted more. So, I had to leave. My parents weren't happy about it, so again, I had to leave. So, under not the best circumstances I left behind my family name, and I've mostly just been learning."
I have most of my reply planned but I'm going to give rin until tomorrow to post. I don't want him to have to do too much catch up if I can help it
Kyrtaar followed Aevah to the tower, enjoying the open space, and getting to be outside again. He could just take the horse and ride, forget the prince and his worldly issues. He could hear the goblins as the skirted about watching them, but he didn't pay them any mind. If they attacked he would have to fight back, and his powers would likely be more than enough to decimate them. Once he reached the tower, he would take his quiver, and place it on his hip. Kyrtaar picked his bow up, and placed it on his back, along with his longsword's sheath. He held the weapon and balanced it in his hand. It felt good to hold it again. After a few seconds of posing with the weapon, he put it in it's sheath.

Kyrtaar listened to the things Aevah was saying, and nodded. He agreed, but he didn't really have anything to add to it. He mounted his horse, and rode after her. "I am quite excited to learn about this norn" was all he said as they left the ruins. During the ride all he could think of was the sun above beating down on them. Usually it was comforting to him, but now it was not. He thought it was a giant blazing pupil in a blue iris sky. It stared at him, ceaselessly. Watching every move for a slip up. For him to be thrown from his horse and killed, so it could take his soul. Kyrtaar pulled his hood up, and felt cold sweat drops running down his back, but eventually, he managed to suppress the paranoia and anxiety.

At dusk, they set up a meagre camp, really just the horses tied together to prevent them from running away, under the open sky. Aevah had killed and skinned a hare, and asked if he was able to cook it with his hands. Kyrtaar was actually curious about this. It was something he hadn't even considered trying before. "Well" He said, "Lets find out." Kyrtaar held his hands out, and literally shot green fire from the palms of his hands. The second try, his hands were only slightly warm to the touch. On the third try however, he was able to control the heat output. His palms had a faint green aura, and his eyes started their familiar glow. "Alright, just put it on my palms, I guess" He said. After a few minutes, he flipped it over, and proceeded to cook it, smiling at this new discovered talent.

Once Kyrtaar was finished, they had one slightly overcooked hare to eat. It would have a faint alien taste to it, but all in all, it would be edible and filling. "How about that" Kyrtaar said with a chuckle "If this save the prince deal fails, I can always become a cook."

After eating, Kyrtaar would look at Rin and Aevah. "So, tell me. Where are you two from." He had only a passing curiosity, but he figured he should know a bit about his traveling companions. He found the Half-elf likeable enough, and pleasant to talk to. The lizard was interesting, but he hadn't truly conversed with him. He also had thrown a wrench into Kyrtaar's plans if everything went awry. He supposed he'd have to try to pass Rin off as a pet, or servant or some such thing, if they had to try and enter more elven territory.
