Government:

- Hasmik Assanian: The President of the Republic of Armenia. A former Ottoman military draftee and defector, he became the principal leader of the Armenian Separatist Front after the Battle of Nor Yerzenka. He oversaw the successful revolution and thoroughly humiliated the Ottoman Turkish occupation forces, earning him a landslide victory in the interim elections of 1977 and then the first formal elections in 1980.
- Joseph Pollundrian: The American-born Vice President and Assanian's closest friend. He volunteered as a fighter with the ASF in the Nagorno-Karabakh and proved his leadership abilities in the management of the fight in South Armenia. He ran with Assanian in his campaigns as a symbol of solidarity.
- Aram Terzian: A young, bright, idealistic former engineer elected to the director of the National Recovery Administration and tasked with rebuilding the nation. He is one of Assanian's most trusted department heads and a fervent ultranationalist. He is often controversial with the parliamentary conservatives with his Keynesian economics practices.
- Jordan Ivakon: The Russian-Armenian Minister of War. During the 1977-1980 interim government, Ivakon was a part of the "troika" making decisions in the militarized government. A former ASF commander, he is regarded as harsh yet cunning in his policies and management of the Ministry of War, including giving consent for a secret false flag operation to set the final stages of the conflict in motion.

Military:

- Haroud Abbasian: A military officer from the Artaskh. Abbasian began his career as a conscript during the waning year of the ceasefire, and took part in the final three month blitzkrieg across Erzurum. After ending his service, he became bored with civilian life and joined again to become an officer in the newly-formed Armenian Foreign Legion.
- George Yaglian: A border guard who recently ended his tour on the Georgian-Armenian border and was reassigned to supplement existing security forces at Joint Base Sevan Lake. He is an aspiring musician with dreams of making it big playing Armenian-infused jazz with the stars in culturally-rich Sevan.
- Mikael Gregovyen: Once a decorated war hero, Gregovyen commands an elite special operations force for the Armenian central intelligence service: the NSS Special Actions Unit. He is currently deployed to Georgia, conducting black operations against bandits and dissident insurgents.

Civil:

- George Vartanesian: The captain of the MV Breadwinner of Rize, a commercial vessel part of the Armenian Merchant Marine, and a veteran seaman. Formerly tasked with trading across the Black Sea with Poland, he is now responsible for the first Armenian circumnavigation of the globe in an international show of force.

Post Catalog:

- Abbasian returns to Yerevan from the war to victory celebrations, and reunites with his family.
- Abbasian and his family discuss the Army and return to the victory parade. Yaglian returns from the war to Sevan.
- Assanian gives a victory speech. Gregovyen leads a raid on a Dagestani warlord's compound and discovers the existence of the Georgian Guard.
- Abbasian returns with his family to the Artsakh, moving back in with his parents. Yaglian settles into his new job at a security posting inside of Armenia and ponders his musical career.
- Terzian and Assanian discuss the infrastructure development and greenlight a public works project.
- Recruiters from the Armenian Foreign Legion convince Abbasian to reenlist.
- Abbasian arrives at OCS day one. Vartanesian guides his ship through the Bosporus. Work begins on Armenia's highways.
- Gregovyen briefs the Georgian theater commanders about the Georgian Guard: a potential political ally and reconstruction force. Vartanesian lands in Cyprus to begin the first port visit on his tour.

If anyone's interested, I'm portraying the reconstruction and joint peacekeeping of a failed state through the eyes of some personal characters there: a special agent from the Armenian CIA equivalent, some foot soldiers, and maybe an aid worker. So it's not playing with numbers,

Fun fact, they got to stop off at Poti to brief about Batumi first. So there's that. Basically explaining that their assassination of the Chechen warlord shook up the foreign contingents in southeast Georgia and oh, by the way, they mentioned a pro-Armenian group in Batumi that we're going to look into.

Military RPs- a Cause for Debate

At the end of the day, it should be balanced.

Even someone like me, who's spent his entire life in a military environment, doesn't want to wade through the thick alphabet soup of military equipment. A general descriptor is fine, but a lot of times people who're really "digits" end up posting five paragraphs about the effective range of an MLRS or something. While sometimes that's pertinent, if you look at a lot of goods works of fiction (and nonfiction written in a narrative manner), that doesn't happen a lot. I don't need to know that an M4 has an 880m/s optimum muzzle velocity using the M855A1 round. Maybe that's pertinent if someone's trying to shoot out a dude a kilometer away (and even then the description could be less thickly technical and rife with jargon), but otherwise it reads a lot better if it isn't clunky and overdone.

And that's a lot of what happens in these things. It ends up just becoming a showcase for who can read the most numbers off of Wikipedia. I've been guilty of that in the past, and I can guarantee that people just skipped over reading that, just as I do now. It's not fun, it's a lecture. Everyone is trying to be more realistic and they only think of that as gear and maybe tactics and how they talk. But that kills things.
