Mathew grinned, as the connection ended. There was no point in saying goodbye, the old geezer would forget anyway. However, the plot had thickened, and Mathew had always had a good nose for profit. This entire business was beautiful, and he needed to be a part of it. He was already invested, all he'd have to do is make the stakes a little higher. Higher stakes meant double the profits, and far from all profits were to be measured in monetary gain. "Lucy, bring me all files related to Kilo Point, contact my SOLDIER people. I want everything, but give a list of confirmed Oldbloods high-pri." [Downloading Data now. It should be available on your desktop in moments.] Bribes and threats could buy a lot of information, and that information exponentially expanded the quantity of threats. Blackmailing was a beautiful, fine little art, and it was an art that Mathew had mastered. Everyone had something they loved, something they cherished. Maybe it was their job, maybe it was their car, maybe it was their family. If you found that, you gained access to everything they were, all they could possibly be. They ceased being a person, and became simply another tool to manipulate, another stepping stone among so many. And SOLDIER was fraught with stepping stones. Already walking down the stairs, Mathew opened up his phone. Information displayed on a thin glass screen, easy to process and realize, already sorted based on their prevalence. "Oh Lucy, you know me too well. Whatever would I do without you?" [Nothing, sir.] "Right you are." Chuckling, Mathew was making phone calls as he stepped into the pre-prepared limousine awaiting him at the bottom of his office complex. Bulletproof glass, reinforced frame, altered alloys forming armoured plates that were both effective and stylish. The perfect ride for the criminal that cared about appearance. "I need you to track down Magnus Shane. Do I sound like I care whether he'll kill you? Go die for what you love, and if you're lucky, there's a Heaven where you can wait for 'em." Person after person, SOLDIER and NASA, CIA and every other organization that Mathew had infiltrated. "I need a line on this Rebecca character, everything you can get on her, her connections, her residence.... everything." Bribes, occasionally. But mostly, no incentive was needed. The people he spoke to already knew they were puppets, and that they would always do what Mathew dictated. They were his bitches, only fit to serve. There was the occasional example, but other than that, things went smooth. "She ain't no God, so you should be able to find her sorry ass. I don't care who you have to kill, I want the data, so get on it!" Tomorrow morning, it would be on his desk. Either that, or their flayed corpses. The limousine screeched to a halt outside the building. It was decorous indeed, the very seat of luxury. All shine, beautiful little systems keeping track of everything that happened, neatly trimmed hedges and painted flowers. All of it old-fashioned, as if there was still worth to be found in the remains of the ancient world. Then again, the figure he was hunting would be a collector of artifacts - would it not be natural for such a person to have their head stuck in the past? "My name is Mathew Stone, I'm here to see the collector about business." "I'm sorry sir, you'll just have to -" With one hand, Mathew held up his tablet. The contents of the screen turned the man pale, as the rest of the sentence dissolved into indecipherable whispering. "Door, open, now." With the sound of well-oiled hinges, the large gates to the estate opened up, and Mathew got back into his car, the driver already starting up. Time was of the essence here. He was late, and he'd have to make a good first impression. On the real collector, of course, not this mindless puppet that had responded to him. Was he really supposed to believe that the deals recorded by hundreds of vampires and humans across the world were the work of this fossil? he found it an insulting notion, at best.
Why would Bedhivere ever fund the Purge? They would be actively attempting to destroy Brittain in every sense of the word. They would spread anti-vampire propaganda, destroy Brittish embassies, make attempts on the life of the Queen, perform terrorist attacks on vampires everywhere in the nation, and actively attempt to hunt down Bedhivere.
Rudan and Ozzy are accepted, BTW, although the standard rule applies. If I find out your character is decimating half the cast, or crushign galaxies with their brain, I will be forced to step in.
<Snipped quote by thewizardguy> Following the plot line of the old ones, Magnus' reasoning with SOLDIER was they really sought to destroy the vampires, much like the Purge though less crazy. That explains why they would want to kill them. Maybe SOLDIER tipped the Purge off instead of hiring them? I dunno. I mean, I can edit it to whatever fits. I just figured not all of the Purge were 100% crazy, and if they had scientists etc. researching things, they'd need money to conduct said research.
However, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that destroying the vampires that WORK for you is a bad idea. Especially seeing as how the vampires in question are about to get attacked by Oldbloods, and you're facing revolution. Eh, the whole tipping off thing is more possible. They're funded by a lot of people. Some of those funders are rich and willing. Others are rich and unwilling.
Sorry, the thread dying is entirely my respnsibility. I have been intensely sick this past week or so, with headaches and horrible lack of sleep. I've tried to keep up posting, but HCL got the short stick. Thinking of a story requires a lot of effort, and I just can't put that in when I'm feeling like shit.
Magi made a mistake. He did something that would cause him to, realistically, open up. While this would last less than a second, that's all the time necessary for 57. If there's debate on the topic, please respond to this. Gm has final say, as always, and I will edit accordingly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnU3C5Pu0Ac Metahmumans.... this was the term that the mutants had used to refer to themselves. They would consider themselves above humans, they believed that their powers had made them into something superior. It was true, in a way. They had capabilities no other being had, powers that even the advanced science of Helios was incapable of rationalizing. And yet, they were still human. They ate, they drank, they slept, they bled. Their powers were an addition to their humanity, a bloated construct wobbling atop the frail structure of their mortal form. An abomination that should never have existed, wreathed in the destruction they so unwittingly brought upon society. They were an evil that needed to be purged, a scourge of superhuman tyrants who would crush the entire civilized world were they not stopped here. In the eyes of those afflicted, 57 could see only the fear of those who had stared into them previously. Those 'lesser beings', who would be nothing to the supernaturally empowered. How ironic was it, in truth, that in their own supremacy they were weak? Even as the mage filled the room with fire, his body was but that of a human, straining to contain this power. His flesh and clothing was protected, and yet he flinched, his imperfect brain instinctively pulling back from the mere concept of fire. Even as the dark room was filled with sudden light, he blinked, a subconscious message forcing him to close his eyes. Even as this occurred, his eyes were accommodating, the lenses transforming to match the new parameters of the area he was in. Minimum time for accommodation was 12/10ths of a second. 57 only took 2/10ths. His automatic visor responded with cybernetic perfection, already compensating before his genetics recognized the difference. 12/10ths of a second was an ocean of time, for those who moved at speeds no human being could comprehend. The tissue of 57's muscles were double-layered, strengthened through modification, each individual cell functioning with an 87% efficiency rating. Merely running, he could reach speeds of 80 km/h. He could lift a car over his head, and with bones harder than steel, it wouldn't even hurt. his neural system had been overhauled with organic metal cells, which nearly instantly transmitted the purely electrical impulses. His reaction speed had been accelerated to more than 15x that of a normal human being through the annihilation of chemical signals. Even as the flame started as a tiny pinprick of light, 57 was already moving, flashing across the room at an unimaginable pace. It was an instant, the blink of an eye, the tick of a second, the death of a man. Slowly, the perfect warrior removed his blade from his opponent's head. It had failed to sever the Central Cortex, but that fell within the margin of error. The tiny sliver of molecularly engineered crystal had pierced the entirety of his opponent's skull, entering straight through the back of the brain. The exit was placed slightly above the right eyeball. Mild burns, about 67% of skin had been affected. Temperatures had been measured in excess of 350 degrees, no wonder he had burnt. Had he taken the blow directly, it would have had far more of an impact. However, the properties of his armour had shielded him from the blast nearly completely, absorbing the heat as they had absorbed the heat of molten metal earlier. He would heal in a matter of minutes, using a series of unspecified stem cells and reattachable carbon nanotube formations integrated into his flesh, allowing it to rapidly recover from almost any trauma. The mutants considered them to be superior to human beings. But they were but mortal, their bodies lagging behind their potential. Now, they would meet a true metahuman. ((I did not just kill Magi. Logically speaking, this wound has a 99% chance of killing a human being. However, through insane luck and most likely magical healing, Magi will survive. He will have taken damage to the brain, which can heal completely, or leave the most bizarre scars. He could learn a new language, lose memories, wake up with a new personality, lose his capability to prevent himself from pissing himself... could be anything. However, this is not intended as an instakill, and is up for debate in the OOC))
Wait, SOLDIER wanted Rhyss and Mithias dead? Why? That makes no sense whatsoever. It's like getting Darth Vader to work for you, making sure he's completely loyal, pointing him at the enemy, and then stabbing him in the back. There is no way that's going to end well, as the best possible result is the loss of a valuable member and the worst is the gain of a dangerous enemy. I can see no logical reason for the government to attempt to go after their own elites. Furthermore, the Purge can't be hired. They don't care about money whatsoever, to them greed is a sign of the devil. They're a religious crusade in modern times, extremists brainwashed into a psychotic frenzy. Nobody can 'hire' a Crusade. Lastly, when the Purge arrived, they attempted to ally with SOLDIER and fight Magnus together. They extended the hand of friendship. Then, Matt decided to go shoot them, starting a conflict that cost dozens of lives, and resulted in the utter destruction of Kilo Point. The Purge had no intention of hunting down the SOLDIER elite until after the conflict had ended.
If he manages to set his turrets within a Closed System, then there's no way to hack into it without a direct port. And to build a direct port outside of the base would be silly. Hell, he could have a system that closes off certain systems rapidly, causing a sectioned and nearly impenetrable digital frontier. And in order to take apart the turrets, one would need to get close.
Wraith, what are you doing here? Are you stalking me? >.> Also, no problem. It's a fun roleplay, and I'd love to keep it going. Now, I'm going to update 57's gear list. Won't use the new gear in the fight with Magi, as that would be illogical, but I might have him restock at some later point in time, getting himself some cool new toys.
