Seems like I have some fellow Brits in here! Anyway, good point, guys, I should have mentioned the month and possible weather options. The month is August, 2016. I don't mind people playing around with the weather in different scenarios as long as it isn't something that probably wouldn't be likely to happen then, such as snow. Possible weather options would be sunny, partly cloudy, overcast, light rain, heavy rain is a possibility too. Thunderstorms are possible too! Since Chicago's huge, it's possible for the weather to differ from area to area. I'm honestly not too concerned about this as long as people respect the input by the first person to run a scenario in that area. If there are two scenarios running concurrently in Naperville but, for example, SyrianHamster's scenario was posted prior, the weather in that scenario must be adhered to.

Feel free to be creative with the world, everybody. Your characters can have quite an impact on the local scale. Just try not to do things that will affect the very core of the RP, such as creating a government super group. If you find a store and it has some unlooted supplies, that's fine as long as you give a good reason for it.

All the profiles posted thus far have been approved and I've added them to the OP for easy viewing. Just for the sake of clarification, the virus itself is not responsible for illness/death unless you're bitten. Everyone is infected but the virus only activates upon death.

Finally, I'm guessing that it's customary for the GM to create the first scenario but we're not so formal here. Everyone is quite free to begin posting their own scenarios! When you see an open scenario, please make sure you have a good reason for entering. If it seems too cluttered, you're very welcome to join a less saturated one or, better yet, create your own.
POSTED OOC:

http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/56776/posts/ooc?page=1#post-1744394
NEW ENTRANTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME: All information about the RP will be compiled in here in easy to read form for your convenience. We've just started so there are no scenario synopses but I have created a list of all characters at the bottom if you'd like to get to know the cast better.

Outline

"We have everything you need. Food, shelter, water, people... A society. You can live in a community free from the infected. A safe haven where you can feel comfortable, knowing that you're surrounded with friends. What is there for you out there? You live in a land overtaken by abominations and murderers, thieves and rapists.

Your instincts are likely telling you that this is too good to be true. Under normal circumstances, you could hardly be blamed for heeding that frightened little voice inside your head. After all, it's kept you alive for this long. All I can say is that we need you as much as you need us. We can't rebuild America without your help and that's why this signal goes out to all of you survivors struggling 24/7 just so that you can take another breath. Is venturing into downtown Chicago risky? Of course it is. But what else are you going to do? Are you going to continue running, simply to exist? Or are you going to take hold of the only opportunity that will allow you to live again?

America begins anew at the Black Mountain, the tallest building in Chicago. In better times, it was known as the Sears Tower. Find us there and we'll make sure you never suffer again. What other choice do you have?"

Set a full year after the outbreak of a flesh-eating virus, this RP takes place in Chicago and its surrounding areas. The population of America has been decimated and only a few survivors remain. The odds are seemingly insurmountable as survivors must deal with hordes of the infected and, worst of all, other survivors who have gone mad in a world with no order.

---

Your decisions will shape the world around you. Will you submit to survival of the fittest, or will you help your fellow survivors to find safety? Will you join a community or will you form your own gang of raiders? The choices are limitless.

This RP begins in the month of August, 2016.

(No special knowledge of TWD is required as this is set in a completely separate area to the canon. Just remember that the virus is airborne, everyone is infected but the virus itself does not cause illness/death unless you are bitten by a walker)

Rules

1. This should be common knowledge by now but no godmodding. Strict action will be taken against modders.

2. No power playing unless you have the consent of the other RP'er.

3. Fights between characters should have the outcome decided beforehand. If you can't decide, message me.

4. Avoid the trope of the 'badass, don't take shit from authority' character. If you have a good reason, fine, but if a group of raiders are holding guns to your head, don't goad them into shooting you unless you actually want your character to die. Be realistic.

5. If your character is injured, stick to it until it heals. If they break their arm, it's advisable for you to not have them boxing with zombies.

6. You will turn within 24 hours if you are bitten but not if you are scratched.

7. If you are bit on a limb and manage to amputate it within 10 minutes of being bit, you will not be infected.

8. The zombies are walkers, they do not run.

9. You may curse liberally.

10. Sex is best left implied. Smut is allowed up to a degree but be sensible about it!

11. Your character cannot be present in more than one scenario at a time.

12. If you want to make the most of this RP, please be dedicated. I can guarantee that the posting speed will not be slow. If you can't commit time to the RP, we can accommodate you but it'll often be at the expense of your character being ignored as post-locking is something we want to avoid.

Scenarios

Scenarios are how we deal with the limitations of not having an entire forum dedicated to this RP. Within our one thread will exist multiple scenarios that will run at the same time. For example:

Scenario 1: Zombie attack in Naperville
Scenario 2: Zombie attack... somewhere else in Naperville
Scenario 3: One group heading towards downtown Chicago

Once you enter a scenario, simply preface your posts with #x, with x representing the number of the scenario. This will prevent confusion and allow several plot lines to play at once. This negates the problem with many RPs where everyone is participating in one scenario and the plot cannot move forward because of character saturation. Not to mention, it's simply banal when everyone is in the same place at the same time.

You may create a scenario any time you want. IMPORTANT NOTE: The creator of the scenario reserves the right to shut off his/her scenario to new entrants if he/she feels that the scenario is becoming too cluttered. Before entering a scenario, please check the first post of said scenario to see if you can join.

Once I post the OOC topic, I'll add your profiles under the character list as they're approved. The weapons are fine. I'm going for small guns for my characters but I don't see a reason why your characters wouldn't be able to scavenge powerful guns like an M4 Carbine. The rule for no overpowered weapons is to deter godmodders but I can tell you're gonna play fair since you're even listing the amount of ammo you have. Good show!

I'm gonna take the risk and call it The Walking Dead: Chicago, nerd kings be damned. This could definitely be a part of the franchise, I don't think there's anything contradictory.
Monster: That advice is similar to what I tell other aspiring authors but, like many other writers, I find it hard to heed my own advice! I agree wholeheartedly, though. It's better to write than to spend months thinking about what you're going to write and not doing it because you'll read it and hate it.

SyrianHamster: Sounds like a win-win situation! Most of the RPs I've been in never have deaths. I think people are going to create some amazing, lovable characters and then kill them off... it'll be devastating but fantastic.

Does anyone have suggestions for the name of this RP? Should it be original or should we just call it The Walking Dead: Chicago? I'll be the first to say that that title would be extremely generic but I think it'd relay the content and nature of the RP to anyone who reads those four words. It'd probably help us recruit more members and make the RP much deeper. I'll keep the OOC story outline the same as the one I did in the OP so that we're not bogged down in canon.
We'd love to have you! The post-nuclear comment was made in regards jimi's novel, not the RP, but a post-nuclear zombie RP does sound pretty badass. I think it'd be too much to focus on and we should focus on the zombie part for now, though.

The skill set idea would make the RP much deeper but I'm wondering how it'd affect accessibility. I'd rather not make things too complicated; it's looking like this RP will already be quite complex judging by how many different characters there are and how many different storylines will be running concurrently. I think we could go for a simpler version by asking writers to RP their characters accurately... if you're rp'ing a character who weighs 120 lbs, it's probably best not to wield a heavy weapon.

If you were to get injured bad enough then yes, the injury would stick with you. I'm foreseeing things like amputations in this RP and that would definitely affect your character in future sequences. If you break your arm, you're not gonna be able to use that arm at all until later on. Complications with the injury would be down to you and how you'd wish to develop your character :)

Can't wait to see your character sheet, I better get started on mine!
Good point, I should have mentioned that. I'll edit the previous post and mention it here too: if you want to omit your character's history and personality and develop it during the course of the RP, that's totally fine.

And yes, 3-4 characters would be OK. I'm guessing that with the presence of writers RP'ing multiple characters, there are gonna be a lot of deaths in this RP! Excellent...

Also, you're writing a post apocalyptic novel? We might be twins, that's what I'm doing! OK, I'm trying to. I can't get myself to start and I thought this RP might be a good idea to create something valuable and snap me out of my rut. What kind of post-apocalypse, by the way? I'm partial to the post-nuclear type.
Great, glad to have someone experienced on board considering this is my first time participating in this genre! To whoever is interested, you should start working on your profiles as the OOC/IC topic will be up soon. If you need a template, try this:

Name:

Age:

Height:

Weight:

Appearance:

History: (You can choose to leave this blank if you'd like to reveal the history during the rp. A little bit of information would be nice but if you want to keep things totally enigmatic, you may leave this section completely empty)

Personality: (Same as the above)

Weapon: (don't go too crazy over here please, best we not have super soldiers carrying around flamethrowers)

You can have up to 4 characters if you wish to play multiple characters.
You assume right, BB! I think fast zombies are really interesting but survival just wouldn't be feasible. If they had speed on top of their vast numbers, they'd be able to catch you too easily in my opinion. They're not runners but they won't be too slow either. Their max speed would be equivalent to that of a slow jog but since there's so many of them, they're still very dangerous.

As for the question above, are you actually being serious? If so: suspend your disbelief. There are innumerable scientific reasons that zombies either cannot exist or would only last a few weeks before succumbing to extraneous factors such as putrefaction caused by warmer climates, muscular rigidity from colder climates, acclimated damage left unhealed due to the lack of an adequately functioning central nervous system and many, many more...

... but that wouldn't make for a very interesting RP.
I'm glad you see potential in it considering the very short radio broadcast! I usually write short stories to set the scene but I felt this was all that was needed. It provides the world flexibility and allows us to create together whilst keeping the RP a little mysterious. Can't wait to start, should have the topic up soon so that we can all start posting profiles.
