Kyo watched the tears slide down Jade's face with a biting sense of melancholy. Had he been too aggressive in his demands to stop? No, as unfortunate as it was, it was justified. These humans being subjected to such powerful magic could have killed them even without the drowning. The fear and shock could have produced a heart attack, especially in the frail-looking gunman. Then again, who was he to command others to not kill when he had done so himself?
That was different, these people were just scared. he assured himself.

"I would really not tempt fate, buddy." said Raphael, watching Caistlin with apprehension.

"What will it take to get you monsters to leave us alone?!" yelled the older of the men in front of Caist. "You've already done enough damage here. My family and my friends are dead thanks to you and your kind. We don't need your help or your fake sympathy, just fuck off!"
Kyo relinquished his treatment of Raphael and sat back with relief as Kent took over. Raphael, who had clearly not been expecting the bullet, was very lucky to be alive. If the man's aim had been better, no amount of white magic could have healed him.

"She's going to kill them!" said Raphael sharply, eyes shut tightly as Kent sealed the wound.

"What?" exclaimed Kyo harshly, scrambling back up to his feet and pushing through Dark's barrier to see what was going on.

Jade, in a remarkably skillful display of black magic, had suspended the gunmen in the air and seemed as if she was going to drown them. Was this her own vicious streak, or was it Ivy's influence?

"STOP!" he roared at her.
The duo eventually reached a huddled group of men and women who seemed to be discussing something with urgency, their backs turned towards Kyo and Raphael.

"Excuse me," called out Raphael, a gentle cadence to his voice so as to not alarm them. "We're here to help. Is anyone injured?"

The group whirled around with a strange mixture of fear and frenetic energy, eyeing the two Wanderers with apprehension and distrust.

"Stay back!" warned the ostensible ring-leader, a frail-looking man with trembling hands.

"It's OK!" reassured Kyo. "If there's anyone hurt, we can heal them."

"I said stay back!" he yelled, producing a gun from his blackened coat pocket. The man lifted it up and pointed it straight at the two, immediately causing them to stop advancing.

"Stay here, Kyo. They might be more friendly if I go in first." reasoned Raphael, halting Kyo with his outstretched arm. Kyo nodded his approval of the idea and with this go-ahead signal, Raphael began to cautiously step towards the group of humans. "Sir, please put the gun down."

The man did not reply. Instead, his eyes widened and the gun stopped shaking as his muscles tightened. Raphael raised both of his hands up in the universal symbol of surrendering, hoping that the man with the gun would be assuaged.

"We just want to-"

Raphael gasped sharply and fell hard on his back as a bullet ripped through his abdomen and rocketed out of the other side. He gripped the wound tightly as Kyo scrambled forwards and landed on his knees next to him, flinging an arm upwards and creating a telekinetic sphere. Unfortunately, healing the injured had exhausted him and this barrier was nowhere near its usual strength. The continued volley of bullets, from more than one gunman, impacted hard against the barrier and dented it, continuously reducing it in size until both Kyo and Raphael were dangerously close to execution by firing squad.
Raphael glanced over at the others, failing to suppress a small smile even in the grimness of the situation. The scene they found themselves in was devastating and yet, despite hostilities between the two races, humans and wanderers were working together. The healed humans genuinely seemed grateful and his companions seemed dedicated to their role as emergency respondents.

"Hey," he said, approaching an exhausted Kyo. "There's a group that's hanging back about a block away. I think the others have it covered here. Do you want to come with me?"

"Sure, let's go." replied Kyo firmly, getting back up to his feet and following Raphael as the two headed towards the unattended area.

Kyo disengaged himself from yet another injured man, feeling dizzy from the amount of white magic he had exuded. Taking a deep breath, he straightened himself up as Dark and Aphrodite landed.

"How are you feeling?" he asked in a concerned voice after making his way over to the group. "Any information on the sick fucks who did this to you? Have you heard from Ivy?"

His tenuous link between Ivy and Aphrodite was the beating the two girls had handed to him and Dark under Balthazar's watchful eye. Their skill had inculcated in him a sense of respect to their prowess and in turn, he felt as if Aphrodite saw something in the two of them: perseverance. Although Aphrodite was now a larger part of his life due to the nature of her relationship with Dark, Ivy had always remained cold and distant. Regardless, he still found himself dealing with anxiety as he imagined the terrible ordeal she was probably going through now. Either that or she was already dead.
Kyo remained quiet in light of these observations, feeling a small sense of frustration at being so out of the loop. Dark had been in a hurry and so had not been able to give him a thorough explanation. From what he had surmised thus far, there were ineffably powerful Wanderers who were using the names of Egyptian deities as pseudonyms and Ivy was missing. Kidnapped. Most likely dead.

He shuddered at the thought as he swept his hands silently over a gash in an unconscious man's arm, looking with forlorn at the seemingly endless line of injured.
Kyo felt a wave of relief pass through him as Jade stopped by; a familiar face in an unfamiliar environment provided him some semblance of comfort and would allow him to regain any equanimity he was capable of possessing.
"Sorry." said Kyo sincerely, nodding at the mute man.
"It's fine, don't worry about it." came the earnest reply. "Introductions are in order, I guess. I'm Raphael and this life-saver to my left is Kent."
"I'm Kyo, this is Jade." he said tersely, wanting to make himself useful as soon as possible. "Dark and I are best friends, Kent, and I have no doubt in my mind that you're referring to the Guardian. Since the two of you are well acquainted, I'll trust your judgement. Lead on."
Kyo gestured at the wrecked buildings behind Raphael and Kent; it was there that they were most likely to find survivors. The area behind Kyo and Jade did not even have a remote possibility of containing life.
#Scenario 23

Kyo descended slowly, his flight trajectory eventually becoming diagonal as his pressed back into his sides. The wind howled in his ears as he observed the carnage that the attack had left behind; the fire was still raging unabated and the smoldering ruins of the mall were scorched black. There were charred skeletons scattered around the wreckage and dust that had to be the accumulated remains of the rest of the unfortunate bodies that were caught in the blast zone.

Kyo landed with a thud and stumbled forward, landing far outside the zone of impact. The blast radius had been huge and it felt as if he was at least two or three miles out. Everything in between had been demolished entirely. There was no way the death toll was not in the hundreds of thousands.

"Hey!" said an unfamiliar voice in his head.

Kyo whirled around and saw two men running towards him. The one on the right looked as if he might be an alumni of the Prometheus Academy, but the younger male by his side was definitely new.

"What's going on?" he demanded, a note of urgency in his voice.

"We're trying to gather as many white mages as we can to heal the injured but we'll take any help we can get." said the man, his words feeling invasive as they echoed in Kyo's head.

"Why won't you speak out loud?" asked Kyo abruptly, looking around; the behaviour was suspicious and he wasn't sure if there was some hidden danger in his immediate vicinity that these two knew about and he didn't.
