Yvette hesitated. She hoped he would be able to stand, but when he sank back to the sand her heart fell. She was definitely not going to let him go with her even if he tried. ”Alright, I’ll keep looking back and make sure we can see each other,” she said, putting a hand on his shoulder and smiling reassuringly, though with how tired she was she wasn’t sure exactly how reassuring she could look. ”I won’t leave you,” she said quietly, a, involuntary blush once more coming to her cheeks. Yvette took a deep breath and stood up slowly, scared out of her mind. She was way too timid to do this, but she had to or they might not live. She tried to strengthen her resolve, stepping towards the rocks and closer to the wreckage, looking back every 10 feet or so to see Jhett. She was more doing it for herself to make sure he was there and real than for him almost. She would hate to end up alone on this island.

As Yvette neared the rocks, she climbed to the top of them, looking back once more at Jhett. She waved at him before looking over, seeing 3 others talking. Her face broke out in a huge smile. She wanted to charge at them but her feet wouldn’t move. If she went further, Jhett wouldn’t be able to see her. ”Hey!” she said as loudly as her hoarse voice would go, waving to the other students.
Keela smiled and shook her head, not finding standing up for others a forceful thing at all. ”I wouldn’t fight just because I would feel guilty not to. I promise. When someone tries to hurt those who have done nothing wrong or those I care about, I want to defend them,” she explained. ”But it is up to you two whether or not you wish to join me. Runa, if you wish to rest, my home is a quarter mile that direction,” Keela pointed. ”It’s a little grove of trees formed into a rounded hut like home. You should be able to spot it,” she smiled, proud of her little home, and always welcoming visitors. ”But I wish to see what this sound was, so I’m heading towards it,” she announced, nodding to the other two with her same smile before heading in that direction the siren had blasted from.

Yvette smiled back as Jhett seemed relieved to see her. Her smile quickly faded when he mentioned hitting his head though, and she moved behind him and lifted his hair around to see what the damage was. It looked like he had a gash that could have used stitches, but here on this island well… some sort of washing and bandage just might have to do. That’s when she realized how tore up her shirt was anyway. She ripped at the sleeves until she managed to pull them off, getting up and taking one over to the water and soaking it. She came back and warned Jhett that this would probably hurt as she used it to wipe away the blood and dab at his cut. It was bruised badly and that probably hurt him more than the cut she figured. She used the dry sleeve and tied it around his head like a bandage. ”There, you can be a karate master until it scabs over,” she said with a smile to make him feel better about the piece of fabric being wrapped around his head. She looked past him, just now noticing the wreckage of the ship. Her eyes widened and she began to worry that perhaps they really were the only two left. She bit her lip and stood slowly. ”I promise I’ll be right back, but I’m going to check beyond that outcrop of rocks to see if anyone else is on that side of the beach,” she told Jhett, hoping he didn’t mind her leaving him. She knew if they were to switch spots, she wouldn’t want to be left alone, but then again he was probably braver than she was.

You know we could pay for a cruise we could go on as a family her foster mother said. Panic rose in Yvette’s chest at the thought. Alone on a boat with them. And especially him. She couldn’t do it. It’s to make friends for high school… A fun trip with other kids my age Yvette had said softly, not wanting to be confrontational but not wanting to miss out on this trip. Her ‘parents’ had finally given in and signed her up, giving her permission and even taking her shopping for all new clothes and swimsuits. She thanked them and hugged each one goodbye before boarded the boat. She didn’t wave goodbye though, glad to be away from them for now. The further she was from them the more she felt tension in her shoulders ease. She went to her room aboard the ship and unpacked a few things. She was wearing her bikini under her clothes, which were high waisted jean shorts and a loose long sleeve shirt. She tied up her hair into a ponytail and kicked off her flip flops, relaxing.

When the storm hit, Yvette panicked. She was not equipped to deal with such things. She was told to go to her cabin, but she couldn’t be alone. She tried finding her friend Brooke, but as she was about to knock on her door water poured in the hall and began filling the cabins. Screams. Hitting walls. Salt water pounding her face. Then blackness.

The blackness gave way to a bird call and a slight breeze that made the hair on Yvette’s arms stand up, salt from evaporated sea water covering her skin. Her eyes ached as she slowly opened them, blinded by a brilliant sun and water lapping her toes. She dug her fingers into sand, and slowly sat up, a raging headache hitting her. She groaned and closed her eyes again, not wanting to think about the possibilities of the dire situation she was currently in as she sat in the sand, face in her hands. She knew if she was going to keep living though, she had to get up and move. So she forced her sore, wobbly legs up and began walking. ”Hello!? she called, but her throat was so dry and scratchy no one far would hear. She coughed some and just walked further, when she saw a figure sitting on the beach. She began jogging, recognizing Jhett as she got closer. She knew him from school, but only from smiles when she glanced up and saw him or small waves in the hallway. Her cheeks blushed slightly as she ran up to him, realizing this was a heck of a time for their first real interaction.

”Jhett!” her hoarse voice came as she jogged to him, breathing heavy as she fell on her knees about a foot from him. ”Are you okay? Have you seen anyone else?” she asked, concerned. They couldn’t be the only two right?
Keela observed and listened as Blake questioned Runa and she explained. Keela felt even more sorry for the girl than before, but at least her thirst had to be quenched now. “If Runa was so exhausted she almost drowned, I doubt she would be much of a fighter at the moment. She probably needs rest actually,” Keela said, sounding very mother like as she wanted to lead Runa to her home and have her lay down and sleep. She wouldn’t force it though, after all they had just met. ”I’m afraid I’m not a fighter, Blake,” Keela admitted, feeling bad that if they got in trouble, he would be the only protector more than likely. ”I do have spells, but I use them for healing or good, not as weapons,” she said, looking apologetic. ”I will fight, not with magic, but as best I can physically if you two are in danger though. I’m not one to run from protecting others either,” she said, hoping it reassured him enough.
Hey here Six heard as a hand took hers. She twitched slightly, not pulling away, but all her memories of someone touching her were filled with large men dragging her away to ‘train’. She had to mentally remind herself that this guy had probably gone through the same things as she did and was helping her. She gave a sheepish and slightly worried smile, as she was concerned she would slow this man down. ”They called me Six,” she replied to the man, gripping his hand firmly so she wouldn’t lose him. She listened intently as he told her what was happening, allowing her to see without opening her eyes, and understood now that the man who destroyed her door spoke backwards. How odd.

Six continued to nod as he spoke, showing she could hear him clearly and understood. Her hearing was suddenly flooded with the scratchy intercom voice again of the subject who had instigated this breakout though. She had no idea where 002’s cell was, but she swallowed hard when the man asked her if she could just follow. ”If I could just touch you it will be easier for me, I don’t need to be led but…,” she felt dumb to admit she was frightened she would be following and then grabbed by one of the soldiers. After all, no one here owed her anything and she couldn’t be sure they would rescue her again if she was recaptured. She knew she could be a lot more independent, but she would wait until after they were out of here. For now she had to admit she needed help. ”But holding your hand or sleeve maybe? I’ll keep up I promise,” she reassured him. ”By the way, what should I call you?” she asked, tone friendly as she appreciated just these small gestures of caring after not remembering having been shown any in her life so far. She wanted to remember who her new friend was in case they got separated.
Keela didn’t understand the girl’s accent, but she understood her well enough. ”Nice to meet you too, Runa,” Keela said softly, glad the girl seemed to be alright. Keela glanced back to Blake, still thinking it odd that a man with the power of a panther would need weapons, but understanding it must make him feel safer. ”Yes, the humans destroyed my home so… I had to come here,” Keela said quietly, no anger in her voice either, but some tone that said she didn’t understand the humans’ actions. ”By the way, there was a siren that went off in that direction when Runa fell in the water,” Keela said, suddenly remembering the noise. ”Perhaps we should check it out. In case there are others here,” she shrugged, hands holding on to the strap of her bag.
Subject Six tilted her head slightly when the man seemed to struggle to say the simple word ‘yes’. She wondered if the modifications done to him had affected his speech, poor guy. At least she could still make her wishes known easily even if she couldn’t see without destroying everything. With more footsteps approaching, she turned towards them before the man spoke, nodding as he said they shouldn’t just be standing there. She blushed a little, not having meant to just stand there, but she’d been sort of waiting for someone to follow. Her rescuer said something that sounded like a foreign language and began moving in one direction. Six came to the conclusion that English wasn’t his first language, thus his hesitation with words. She had no idea what he was speaking though. ”I’ll follow,” she explained to the man who had shown up second as she turned and felt the wall next to her, jogging slowly as her fingers ran along the wall, follow the footsteps until she could find her way out. She could only hope she didn’t run into anybody or anything and trip. But she was listening to the other footfalls carefully over all the chaos happening, wanting desperately to escape.
