Name: Ateret
Age: 18
Nationality: Roman
Rank within nation: Upper merchant class
Appearance:

Bio: Ateret’s father in a man who started out as a slave and worked on the docks. Working to his freedom, he became a freeman and eventually bought the shipping business when the man who used to be his master fell ill. He got quite the low price for it as well considering his ‘master’ thought of him like a son. Marcus (her father) grew the business in ways his master could have never imagined and eventually became a high class individual and married Ateret’s mother, Divinia. They were madly in love and perfect for one another. Ateret was a breach birth however, and the doctor’s tried performing a cesarean on her to save both mother and baby. It failed though, with Divinia losing massive amounts of blood. Her faithful servant Hadassah stayed by her side the whole time though, and Divinia asked Hadassah to be the baby’s nursemaid and care for her, and name her. Before she died, Hadassah told her the name of her baby girl, and she left the world with a smile on her face.
Ateret’s father always had a bittersweet emotion towards his daughter and life from that moment on. He eventually remarried a noble woman unlike Ateret’s mom, and they had a daughter as well. This daughter was named Nona. Growing up in their large marble home, Ateret often felt trapped and would spend her time with Hadassah and the other servants, or leave the house in regular clothes to associate with lower classes whom she found more comfortable to be around and diverse. Her stepmother Aedre constantly barrages Marcus to get Ateret to be higher class and settle down, to make them proud. Marcus sees so much of Divinia in her though, he finds it hard to be strict.
Recently, a man named Crispus from a politician’s family asked for Nona’s hand in marriage. Marrying off the younger daughter before the oldest caused Marcus to start buckling down with Ateret and demand she become more appealing. His friends were chiding him and laughing about his daughter that no one wanted to marry. Aedre was rather happy simply because of the type her daughter had managed to attract, getting her married off at the age of 15, almost 16. Being 18, Ateret is being told her time is almost up to get married to anyone good. She cares about disappointing her father and feels bitter towards her stepsister and stepmother, but would rather be happy than have the life her stepsister has been having lately, considering Crispus’ various affairs already. And it actually spared her an unhappy life, as prior to Crispus proposing to her sister, she had a small infatuation with Crispus that he only fanned the flames of, just to marry her sister instead.
She doesn’t not believe in the gods and goddesses, but doesn’t believe they have a hand in her everyday affairs if they do exist.
Strengths, weaknesses, phobias: She knows how to use a sword proficiently thanks to some of her male friends who she grew up with, so they tend to think of her as less of a girl and more one of them. She also went to school and can read, write, read music, and sing. She is smart and well spoken, as well as athletic and one to question the norms. She even tried to convince her father to get her into the legionnaires but knew he couldn’t because of her gender. Ateret is famously fickle, becoming interested in one thing and dropping it when she gets bored, a definite fault of hers. She is also not stronger than an average man, but she could outwit or out fight one in a sword duel. She cannot hold up a proper shield though or fight well with any kind of armor. She is very good at scraping, but hasn’t done so in a while since at the age of 12 her father saw her and made her promise to never again so it has only been a rare thing for her to do since. She is very much a person who does before thinking, and has a hard time opening up to people.
Ambition: To find her place in the world where she belongs since she doesn’t quite fit into what’s expected from her. More than likely one to expose corruption in Rome.
