So you're a warmonger? Because at the scale you're talking about, you're going to get stomped for that, hard. You're another nation attacking pillaging others; that's a lot harder to cover up than small independent raiders.

Did you read my post? I said that my faction's size right now is not final. Also if you guys are insular and not very connected then that makes pillaging and plundering not too hard since there wouldn't be any alliances. Also my faction will trade if it makes a good profit.

Yeah, this doesn't really work in this setting, at least not in the way you are describing it. As ASTA and Tyren said, there is the problem that foreigners will stand out like a sore thumb quite easily, and make things difficult. Crime also doesn't exist in the Synch, so your intergalactic mafia is already shot there. The reason for crime not existing is that there is no economy in the Synch, and that Consensus is followed to the letter by all but Rampant constructs. Put in short, even if your idea was approved, it would have no hold whatsoever in the Synch's borders.Another point though, and this one is more to help you, rather than say your idea won't work. You really should trim your population down by at least six digits, as the larger an organization such as yours is, the larger a target it is.

There is no list of faction sizes so I am waiting until a list is given before I give my faction its proper size. Ether way my faction is still an empire of pirates and will rob anything with value, so the underworld aspect may not play out the way I want it to but there will plenty of people to pillage and plunder.

It being a galaxy (which is questionable as the GM has said that at maximum all our combined civs will cover about 10,000 stars) has nothing to do with the liklihood of there being an organized inter-faction underground. For something like that to be plausible you need two things: high inter-connectivity and more or less unregulated civilian access to spaceflight. The first point fails, because even basing it solely off of the current completed sheets, factions are trending towards being fairly insular; they exist as largely self-contained bubbles of one or a few close-knit species united under a larger political body, with areas of empty space between each other. Sure, within Redspace or Graal or individual Yul worlds you could probably find a criminal underground network, but it would be exclusive to those locations and have no functional reach beyond them.I mean, this is the same reason that spies aren't very plausible in this sort of setting; individuals or organizations from one faction are going to be very obviously foreign if they interact with other societies. A Graal could never infiltrate Redspace because Graal are rare and stand out and would be subject to automatic scrutiny. The second point is also likely to fail due to a lack of the first element. In a setting like, say, Star Wars, where species can generally be found anywhere and there aren't many factions, sure, underground crime ring works. In something like this? It's rather unlikely.

If our factions are insular like that then that makes it harder for interaction with each other. I will ask what the GM says about galactic crime, if there isn't then I can just have my faction establish one.
ASTA said
That's...not how some nations work, specifically mine. The issue with the yul is that, while they do have high levels of trafficked contraband materials (mostly in the form of genemods and off-the-grid military-grade mechanical augmentations), actually making it into yul space while remaining undetected is a pipe dream at best and downright suicidal at worse. This is due to the fact that yul value their security, and have taken extensive measures to ensure their species' longevity in the wake of intergalactic imperialism and hostile xeno species by lacing their held territories with thousands of 'lurker drones' that run passive scanning routines, dyson swarms around stars that function as 'space denial systems' and a rather large amount of unmanned mobile military gun installations that run patrols throughout the systems that they are assigned to. As all of these measures maintain a constant linked network with one another, hiding and performing shady acts within a yul star system is rather folly, especially since the transferring of goods is done by pre-determined routes mapped out by an extensive wormhole gate network. Also, civilian or private firm spacecraft do not exist in the Yaren Axis. It's either government-controlled spacecraft or a drone freighter. Anything else is either a mining rig or something that doesn't belong, and things that do not belong there are usually tracked, asked to leave or outright destroyed (and then salvaged for parts).

Your faction sounds like it doesn't have too much freedom and individual choice. Also this a galaxy we're talking about so it is highly possible for there to be a galactic crime syndicate, and I think it would offer a lot of interesting aspects to the rp.
Is this rp still happening?

The assumption that there an "intergalactic underworld" is possibly a bit of a stretch, considering how all our factions are likely to operate in a relatively insular manner. Also, even if there was, it'd just be a "galactic" or "intragalactic" underworld. "Intergalactic" implies it spans more than one galaxy.

Well then I meant galactic underworld, and in my opinion if you have empires and civilizations that can cross the galaxy then naturally you would have crime syndicates. Criminals do not follow norms like lawful citizens do so regardless of how isolated you are, there is always the possibility of criminals who will use galactic space travel to make profits
Aethelred was marching at the head of his army on their way to try and liberate the elven kingdom from the hellish undead savages. His sword's holy power would see these foul creatures back to the inferno where they belonged. His army was big and they had a desire to crush the allies of the orces. Most of them were men while some were elves and dwarfs, they were only a single hours march from the kingdom and were ready for a battle. He gripped his sword's handle tightly in his hands and he prepared for the coming bloodshed. He hoped that God would grant them good fortune this day and see their enemies routed and defeated.

You could try. But draxis is not an orc and the army that took it were all undead. Like I said, read the posts. Get a feel for where you want to be and go to. I would like someone to fight though

Okay

Out of curiosity, who did you plan your pirates to be attacking?Redspace might be a good source of easy targets, given how many Ljikoril wthpships there are floating around in otherwise empty systems.

They attack anyone they can loot from, they are the pirate empire of the galaxy and they have heavy connection to the intergalactic underworld so they aremalso almost like the mob.
