Just an update. I've been running into a few issues lately so If I take too long to get a post up, you have my permission to do whatever you'd like to Kituo. Finals are coming up and I'm having trouble managing time which is why my posting has been sporadic. Summer vacation coming soon, though (hopefully). I'll try and post for certain this weekend.

A shrill crawled out of Kituo's mouth as he saw the section of the bridge behind that was behind him was no more. He was stunned, his legs locked in place as he tried to register what just happened. The lantern still snug against him and the fire close enough on his tail, he was prompted to resume his walk towards the purple light. Kituo's stomach felt jittery for he knew it would only be a matter of time before he was faced with his next trouble. He twitched while walking through the balls of the light towards his destination. Eyes squinted, he struggled to make out the details of those who awaited him at the center of the bridge. Okay - they weren't exactly awaiting him it seemed. Where they coming for him?

He heard a voice boom from the bridge's center. It sounded familiar. Was it one of the others from before? He thought back to the girl who was with him just literally a few minutes ago. She had seem so confident and capable of enduring their present debacle, but alas she too had fallen. Kituo was traumatized as he reflected on her. So far he had witnessed at least three deaths since his awakening in the forest. First there was that small man who had gotten devoured and then there was the spear bearer - who he really thought was the most likely to survive out of them all giving his strength. Now that girl was gone. Kituo shuddered. Cowards like him weren't meant to last long under circumstances. If the forest was taking out all of the strong people then a weakling like him was sure to die sooner or later.

Therefore, he had no choice but to make the most out of the time he had left. Even though he was always proven wrong, he was sure there was no way things could get worse. He was trapped on a bridge with a fire surging behind him. He could go forward towards the purple shine but there were unknown entities in his path. Since it was already established that the forest was home to some uncanny beings, he wasn't too keen on taking his chances. Alas, he didn't have any other options. Whether the fire could reach him or not was as much of an uncertainty as his probability of returning home. He just hoped that whoever was out there was at least human.

"M-my name's Kituo!" He shouted to those at the bridge's center, his voice a squeaky whimper. "I-I don't mean any harm!"

If they weren't of the same intent then he was screwed.

I finally through something together. Its not my best work that's for sure. Sorry about being late. Life has been slapping me around lately. It was good to escape though. That post helped even if it was meager.

One minute she was there motivating him to continue. The next she was lying with a dart in her neck. Kituo cringed as he watched the girl fall but he did not dwindle on it for too long. Instead, he kept pushing towards the light in search of salvation from the hell that was torturing him. He wanted to feel bad for not stopping to check on her but he couldn't. As of right now his survival was of utmost importance for multiple reasons - or at least he thought so. At the moment he was the self appointed guardian for whatever was encased by the egg within the lantern. If it fell int the wrong hands then they would be finished.

The flames were at his heels, his skin peeling as the heat brushed against his ankles. The sound of water patted down his nerves. While it was unlikely, perhaps they would finally be able to extinguish the out of control blaze. Either way, when a fire was going on, water was never bad. All the more incentive for Kituo not to give up. He continued until he came to a bridge which hung above turbulent rapids. Kituo gulped at the thought of falling in and exhaled before taking another step forward. Towards the heart of the bridge he saw two people - one of them looking familiar. Were his eyes deceiving him? Maybe they were. He wasn't prepared to believe them.

The purple light still demanded Kituo's attention and he smiled as it beckoned him. Underneath its shine he could make out three figures which he assumed were also human. Relief settled into Kituo but it did not get comfortable. While his loneliness was short lived, the fire was fast gaining. Were the people before him aware of the inferno? Kituo did not know. Therefore, he decided to approach, his knees wobbling as he tackled the bridge. Hopefully he wasn't making another mistake. Odds were he probably was.

As the fire overtook them, Kituo shuddered. His skin blistered as the heat's intensity rubbed against him. The heat was greater than any he had ever felt before. It was so hot that it forced him to prod the lantern away from his chest, its warmth only adding to the smoltering torture. Not only was the heat pounding him, but the smoke from the fire was beginning to choke Kituo. It was becoming increasingly harder to breath and as he hacked and choked, Kituo staggered on his feet. He couldn't rely on the lanter to get him out of this crisis. If his willpower couldn't succeed then he was finished. It made Kituo feel more uneasy to see even the monkey bats withdrawing from the flames. The fire was truly an adversary to them all.

He didn't know whether it was through sheer will or not, but somehow Kituo found the strength to keep his feet moving. While he didn't register it at first, he was actually being guided through the inferno by the shine of the purple lantern in the distance. When he did take heed of it, he could only manage a small grin as a display of his hope. The purple light gave Kituo reassurance in that he would not have to rely solely on himself. Kituo knew he wasn't the best equipped for keeping himself alive. For all he knew the entirety of the forest had already been engulfed. But, if the purple light still gleamed then there had to be a safe point ahead. Having a set destination motivated Kituo to pick up his pace. Hurrying along, he pushed the lantern back against his chest and gritted his teeth to endure the heat.

As Kituo trudged, his body began to gradually feel lighter with each step he took. This continued until he swore that he was floating through the air - a sensation he felt during his descent from above. The lantern in his arms almost blinded him as it reacted to the purple light that advanced onto them. As good as it felt, Kituo himself finding temporary pleasure in the familiarity, he was unable to fully remove himself from the fire that surged through the forest. He came back down to reality and pushed forward with his passion increased by a morsel. Kituo's heart had been worked to exhaustation. No longer able to zip, it thumped within Kituo as his body slowed down. The smoke was weighing his lungs down and he was becoming feint headed. Kituo panted and fought to catch as much oxygen as he could salvage. As he nodded in and out of darkness he swore he caught a glimpse of something looming near him. Whatever. If there indeed was something there, Kituo figured it unwise for it attack him giving the circumstances.

C'mon, move. Kituo urged, trying his best to lift his leg. Contrasting with his soaring head, the mass of Kituo's body was becoming heavier. Kituo staggered again and nearly fell. At this rate it would be near impossible for him to progress. He coughed and prepared to quit. But, just when he was about to fall to his knees, his body was suspended mid-drop.

The voice of the girl seeped life back into Kituo as she held onto his arm. Did she say that they could get home if they gathered all the lanterns? That was a symphony to Kituo's ears.

"A-alright," he chucked, forcing another step.

He had nothing to lose by resisting his own demise.
