MY TURN! Just happened...

Western RP. My char, made out to be a legend from the start (as in, super talented with her gun despite possibly (Note is says possibly, not that she is) being blind).

She gets a wanted man to help her find his old gang after said man escaped from prison and tried to steal her horse.
They meet another man who is her friend (another criminal, but low end). He upsets the bad guy with her.
The partner decides to just shoot him and tear out part of his throat doing so... Auto-hit/kill you could say.

I respond making my character draw her pistol first and fire a shot that hits the gun to knock it off aim and miss the man. He's an important character, so an auto-hit that will end in death is not okay. More so, in my post, she explains to him that this man's entire gang, which is very large and already known to be above in the rocks above them will just begin shooting him right then and there in retaliation. More so, SHE would kill him if he touches the man because it's her friend. So, allowing the hit would end the RP because he would then be killed by either the extremely large gang surrounding them or she'd do it herself.

And if he wanted to fight 'speed', I agreed with him she couldn't swing her rifle around from her back in time, but she is known for her pistol draw. Adding to it, his character is supposed to be dehydrated, tired, hungry, etc. So, she'd be able to draw faster than he'd be able to aim the rifle and fire, logically.

But, of course, he quit after this.

I always find it funny when someone tries a BIG auto-hit/kill on an important character and then get mad when you try to, in character, dodge and explain why it wouldn't work out correctly...or out of character. Either way.

Oh well. One more RP down. o-o

... She's talented with a gun even though she's blind? And an actual cowgirl? The lack of historical correctness, oh god.

i won't say who but why is because she/he disapproved me for a claim because my personality and bio was too short i posted a 4 paragraph bio and a whole paragraph for his personality, and it was "Too short" But the guy who made his claim next posted like 3 things in personality and a paragraph of bio and gets accepted.

Technically, whether she is blind or not isn't known. She only shows one eye, and it's white. It's very plausible the other eye isn't blind.
And no, she is a bounty hunter. She doesn't call herself a cowgirl.

But historical correctness is only needed in RPs that are to be historically correct. Technically, adding anyone who didn't exist in time makes something no longer historically correct. Changing anything that happened, so on and so forth. You cannot really have a 100% historically correct RP. Any RP will rewrite what history said. That's the fun of it though.

I wouldn't join an RP if everything had to be perfect. That's nit-picking and isn't fun unless you enjoy nit-picking.

... No, but you have to keep some correctness, unless it doesn't fit.Like, a female bounty hunter?

Sometimes, you just can't make people happy. o-o
It's to be expected. ^.^

Just like with 1x1s, you can 100% explain a character, and then the person decides later they don't like them despite you having explained it to begin with...

Or groups where a plot is very clearly laid out and the rules, but later someone bitches about how they don't like the rules.

Unfortunately, it's going to happen. =D Just keep moving on.

this person has denied me for two other rps and almost instantly without reason declared war on me in a NRP, somehow learned all my strategy's too before i could implement them in battle even when i hadn't said them out loud to other chars in the rp or even had them written down and passed off as a message.

I can't help but feel uncomfortable whenever someone role-plays a canon character, regardless of whether they're a good role-player. Even if that character is a prominent character in a long running series, there's still the extremely high chance that they'll get something completely wrong about that character, and that their emotions and personality will influence that character.

I also get annoyed whenever people use a story they like and try to emulate the intense parts of it whilst disregarding the pacing that made them good in the first place, bonus points if the original story doesn't have good pacing either.

This all the way.

No one is going to properly RP as a canon character besides the people who made the show.

Anyways, all this discussion about RP's makes me want to make a parody RP, making fun of tropes and cliches. But that's hard to pull off and I'm not funny at all.

Bullshit! I completely disagree based on personal experience. I happen to know for a fact that it's possible for a good writer, who knows the character in question to write them accurately. You have to know the character intimately, however. This means that not every character can be played well. Take a video game character for example. This character is the star of 1 game. IN that game, his character is explored in very little detail, and relies on the strength of the script alone, which was was average at best.

Playing this character would be hard to say the least.

But take for example Goku, from Dragon Ball. Anyone with a knowledge of the rich history and lore of the Dragon Ball franchise could accurately play Goku, Vegita, Gohan, or any of the main cast.

I was once involved in an X-Men RP, and I've been told that I played Wolverine very well, because Logan is a character I know very well.

This entire thread could very easily rock a writer's faith in this community to the very core. Any good writer can take on any character given to them, and hold their own. That's what defines a good writer and role player.

In my opinion, no one can play a canon character well, except the creator.
