Welcome to Pokemon: Indigo Version.

This is an adult, darker take on Pokemon set in a somewhat dystopian society. The shady NeonCorp dominates the region and democracy is a joke. This is a world of red-light districts and barren wastelands where people and Pokemon get hurt. This is not happy-clappy anime land where ten year-olds befriend hulking monsters and talk about the power of friendship. The real world is somewhat rougher.

Critics, though few and far between, have always wondered if the Scarlet Conference, a huge yearly tournament, was just a distraction from something more important happening. Of course, their communications have to be subtle, before they are silenced.

Exactly what is NeonCorp up to?
More importantly, whose side are you on?

There is a bit of plot to this, but I'm looking for the RP to be player-driven. If the players drive the plot in a direction different to what I have planned, I will go with that and either change the plot or use it as a backdrop to whatever unfolds. There's a buttload of information below. Don't feel obliged to read all of it, but it's a backdrop to the RP so it will come in handy. If you simply want to sandbox in the world I've created, I'm well on-board with that.

Rules:
  • Standard stuff about godmoding, etc

  • "Acceptable spelling and grammar required" - if you can't spell or get basic grammar right, that will annoy me. I don't think there's any excuse for getting it wrong. If you don't think you can get it right, this really isn't the RP for you. Post length, I'm not fussed about, so long as we can avoid one-liners.

  • This is a story about trainers, not about their Pokemon.

  • I accept people can't post every day, but once a week as a minimum might be nice. Either way, please keep in touch so I know when/if I can expect posts from you if you're inactive.

  • Above all - have fun!

(Don't know if this checks out, but here ya go)

Name: Tyrone "Vice" Jervis

Age: 25

Profession: Pokemon Trainer (Formerly a member of Team Rocket's Johto Branch)

Goal: To do his own research on Pokemon through battle.

Affiliation: Neutral

Hometown: Blackthorne City (Johto)

Appearance:

Personality: He has the attitude of a punk, and can hold his own in a brawl. He surprisingly knows a lot about pokemon, despite his appearance. At times he can be a smartass. He takes care of his Pokemon fairly well, and knows their limits. On the other hand, he doesn't know his own limits in fights. Absolutely HATES any criminal group with the word "Team" in their name.

History: Born and raised in Blackthorne, Tyrone took interest in Pokemon after watching several battles and hunts performed by Dragon-type Pokemon for territory or food. He took interest in their habits and behavioral patterns. All throughout his school life, he tried to focus on classes that would get him a job as a Pokemon Researcher. This would lead him to choose extremely difficult classes in high school. He had to spend hours studying in order to keep up. This led him to flunk his other classes, eventually forcing him to drop out of high school.

Knowing that no research facility would hire a Highschool dropout like him, Tyrone searched desperately for a job, more focused on staying financially stable than pursuing his life goal. Unfortunately, he lacked the qualifications and knowledge to get him a good job in any sort of business. Refusing to take on low-paying jobs, he had no other choice but to turn to criminal activities.

He had to go through several "tests", but he managed to become a grunt in Team Rocket's Johto branch. He mainly had a hand in Pokemon smuggling, Black Market business, but he occasionally helped "fix problems." He got his nickname from his unique ways of killing people. He would usually use the Pokemon that other grunts had at their disposal to handle the problem. Having a Victreebel consume and dissolve a person, or having a group of Carvanha swarm, rip apart, and devour them made things much less costly ways of killing someone and disposing the body.

One day he found that some of the other Rocket grunts were doing something with the Pokemon that didn't sell. They were taking their parts to sell instead. Tyrone could tolerate animal abuse to a certain extent, but this was something he couldn't stand for. He knew he couldn't stop it, but he knew he could get away from it. It put a target on his head, but Tyrone left the organization, stealing a Noibat from them on his way out. To escape their sights, he immediately took a ship to Hoenn.

Tyrone wouldn't find that much peace from other regions though, as there were still several other criminal organizations working around the world. Each doing some sort of action that pissed him off. He travelled from one region to another using the money he made back in his Rocket days. He moved to the Scarlet Isles in order to escape all that. Little did he know that there was one there too.

He became a Pokemon Trainer initially to make money in case he ran out, but found something in Pokemon battles that got him interested in them.

Team:
(Had to put pokemon pictures in hiders due to the largeness.)

Gorebyss, to me, is a must have in this one. Although other generations haven't stated this about Gorebyss, it's actually pretty good at attacking and killing it's prey. Figures that only the generation it's debuted in actually says anything about it.

Ruby Pokedex said Gorebyss lives in the southern seas at extreme depths. Its body is built to withstand the enormous pressure of water at incredible depths. Because of this, this Pokémon's body is unharmed by ordinary attacks.

(Yeah, we're not doing this "Can't be harmed by ordinary attacks" thing. That's ludicrous in a setting like this.)

Sapphire Pokedex said Although Gorebyss is the very picture of elegance and beauty while swimming, it is also cruel. When it spots prey, this Pokémon inserts its thin mouth into the prey's body and drains the prey of its body fluids.

Emerald Pokedex said A Gorebyss siphons the body fluids of prey through its thin, tubular mouth. Its light pink body color turns vivid when it finishes feeding.

Sorry for not making my CS yet! I would like to wait for Imperfectionist to make their's and (if it's cool with them) make a sort of ally.

Also, I'm trying to choose a main Pokemon, if anyone wants to help. Right now my main choices are Herdier, Mightyena and Houndoom.

Well, I'm not sure. I haven't played the games in a while, and the only one I remember seeing in one was Houndoom. But maybe Herdier fits better for the type of character I might end up going for? I'm not really sure, all I know is that I'm definitely going for a dog-like Pokemon.

I don't really know about what type of person your character is, but if you think it fits, then go ahead. Though I think the bite on the other two dog pokemon would be stronger than. Herdier's, then again it looks like it could be a lost faster.

Okay, yeah, my sheet is taking much longer than I expected. I've ended up writing like five characters, instead of just Baobab... Hopefully you three are still here?

Jig has kind of lost interest for the moment, I believe, but the two of us did discuss trying again...

Just keep an eye out, I suppose.
