In the year 2015, All hell broke loose. The Anti-Mutant campaigns were on the upswing, and the harassment of the mutants became an everyday thing. First, the mutants were just bullied in the streets, then it got really violent. By the middle of 2016, a full-scale war broke out. A war so messed up... that something like it had not been seen since World Wars One and Two.
The world has been taken apart, the United States are still fighting their war on the Mutants, allying with several of the United Nations. It's Chaos all over the globe. The United Offensive ( As the new Government calls itself ) have pushed down most civil-rights and you can't speak up against them... unless you're fond of prison, perhaps worse. The Xavier's institute for extraordinary youths have been destroyed, and most of the X-men have been killed. The Fantastic Four have vanished, Spider-Man was K.I.A, the Avengers have disbanded Thor returned to Asgard, Bruce Banner was captured and is under permanent sedation, Captain America has been frozen again, and Tony Stark has been put to death for being a traitor to mankind.
Most mutants live in fear now, knowing that if they'd show of their powers, they'll be killed by the various soldiers roaming the streets. There are several groups of mutants whom are working against the government. Some have given up hope, And some are still trying to come to a settling with the humans.
The X-men are destroyed. The institute has been laid to waste, and the professor was executed. The team was either captured or killed, only a few of them survived. The few of them that actually did survive? They're still trying to win this war... and along with a couple survivors, I'm still fighting the good fight, though we'd need a miracle to win.

Currently, the situation is bad. Gambit, Beast, and Polaris are holed up in Las Vegas, the last bastion for mutant-kind in the United States. Each of them are or would be Class-A Mutant Threats to the world. The Risk Class Rating was developed by the United Offensive's Postwar Administration Bureau to categorize mutants by not only their power, but also by the general threat they posed to society. Some may have higher powers such as pyrokinesis... but have not acted. Others may have simple things like telepathy, and robbed banks or killed people... earning a rating.
The Rankings/Classes are as follows.
D-Rank: Minimal Threat. MAY have killed someone, and has damaged upwards of $50k in property
C-Rank: Mild Threat. Confirmed to have killed someone or damaged $500k or more in property.
B-Rank: Significant Threat. Has killed up to 10 people and/or caused $1.5m or more in damages.
A-Rank: Major Threat. Killed between 10 and 100 people including MHF Agents, and/or caused $6m or more in Damages.
S-Rank: Immense Threat. Killed 100 or more people, Agents of the MHF, and possibly MES... and/or caused $15m or more in damage.

Factions
United Mutant Containment Agency: A Government Agency devoted to either the capture and containment or the elimination of every mutant of noteable potency. Their methods are brutish most times, overcoming a target via threats and violence. They tend to capture any and all mutants, regardless of the powers they may or may not possess. Those with lesser mutations such as serpentine tongues or oddly-colored eyes are recorded and released with a tracking chip in their necks. More dangerous mutants are either sedated and contained, or killed outright.
The UMCA has two main forces that it uses against the mutants. The Mutant Hunting Force, or MHF, is akin to an interstate police force. They have jurisdiction pretty much anywhere they go, and can detain suspected mutants for up to a day without a warrant. They can pursue targets that flee, use deadly force, and may bypass laws that pertain to excessive force if they feel it is necessary. However, they have limited resources and cannot deal with mutants that have more potent abilities.
The Mutant Extermination Squads, or MES, are similar to SEAL teams, Spec-Ops, etc. Often, a squad may even contain a mutant that has been either brainwashed or controlled through a sort of technology-assisted 'mind control'. They are ruthless, do not hesitate to cut down any mutants they encounter (including children), and even deploy draconian methods such as torture and kidnapping of unmutated civilians if they feel those individuals have information, or may give them an edge against more powerful mutants.
Alliance for Mutant Superiority: The AMS is an organization that was born when a powerful mutant gave up on humanity and chose to further the advancement of mutants. Initially seen by mutants as a positive thing, it quickly became apparent that the AMS was more like a terrorist organization. They attack non-mutant groups, bomb government buildings, do whatever they can to recruit powerful mutants, and actively seek to put themselves at the head of the world governments.
The leader of the AMS is a target of S+ Danger Rank, though his or her abilities are actually unknown. However, he is clearly dangerous and leads an organization that is in direct opposition of the UMCA and the Government itself. In addition, the ASM has at least six A-Rank or higher mutants in its ranks, adding to the incredible priority the Government puts on stopping the group.
