The human race was delving deeper into science than ever before, gradually learning the fundamentals of human nature itself. Through countless years of study, a so called "murder gene" was discovered hidden in the genes of humanity. Experiments started, widespread and major, effecting many throughout the country, to correct and improve the genes of humanity. This experiment was a failure, rather than correcting, it only resulted in more damage. If one thing were improved, it drastically altered another. Take away someone's fear, or low intelligence, or dishonesty... and you take away their compassion.

A grisly war broke out, the genetically damaged on one side and the genetically pure on the other. Death and destruction was rampant, leaving everything in ruin. The remnants of the United States government banded together and established what they could of order, albeit only a shadow of the former world. The genetically pure rose far above the damaged in this new world, discrimination spreading like fire. They were treated as animals, as if unable to even make their own choices. The government started working on a way to correct the damage, establishing the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

Selective breeding was deemed a solution to fix the damaged genetics, and that was the primary goal for the Bureau. Experiments were established, several different zones were gated off and populated with damaged humans to partake in the tests. The participants either came willingly, with promises of money and food to their families, or forcefully. Memory serum was spread throughout the participants and a knew world was molded into their heads, one of peace. Most experiments failed, war converging onto the communities sooner or later. A faction system was introduced, one which resulted in overall more genetically pure being born. There were the Erudite, smart and analytical though cold and cynical. The Abnegation, selfless, though neglecting of their own selves. The Dauntless, brave and adventurous, though cruel. The Candor, honest and trustworthy, though open and overbearing. The Amity, kind and forgiving, though apathetic.

Generations passed in these experiments, and some even survived and flourished. One of these being the experiment set in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is where the heroes of this story live, now preparing to make the decision that will change their lives, though unaware of the cruel world outside their walls.

During the test that told what faction one is suited for, some were able to see through the simulation. They were able to bend it to their will, fight through it. Their results were established as inconclusive, they were pure. They were divergent. The divergent have been deemed dangerous by the leaders of the city, and are hunted down. The only way to survive their wrath is to hide your divergence away.

The question is, do these experiments mean anything? Are the "genetically damaged" really as damaged as is thought? Are the pure just as damaged as the others?
I'm sorry for the lackluster intro, my knowledge about the trilogy is a bit rusty now, but I think I got most of it down. If anyone's familiar with the Divergent trilogy, (And also the movie, though I heard it stunk) this roleplay is based around that world. It's based a couple generations before Tris or Tobias were born, or even their parents. No characters actually in the series will be allowed, we will craft our own. I'm debating on whether or not all of the characters would have to choose Dauntless, because the plot ideas I have so far mostly center around them. I'd really like to get something like this started up, so if anyone's interested, feel free to post here! :3
