Following a nuclear war in 1959 the world has become a wasteland. The nuclear blasts, radioactive fallout, desertification of the land and the acidification of the oceans destroyed much of humanity as well as other forms of life. Some few survived and over time they slowly began the process of rebuilding. Animals evolved or were mutated and adapted to the harsh desert world they now occupied. Humans began to band together and new cultures and civilisations formed. It didn't take long for conflicts to emerge due to the lack of resources, drinkable water, food and means of powering machinery were scarce and became prizes to be fought for. Warlords rose to carve out their own kingdoms or form personal armies to prey on those weaker than them. They scavenged technology from the now fabled years before the bombs were dropped. Firearms, vehicles, tanks as well as other machinery were found and repaired or reproduced. Anyone who wished to survive is expected to fight and defend themselves to the death, anyone who can't was lost long ago.

Centuries have passed since the end of the world as we know it, now the worlds small human population clings to survival in settlements dotted throughout the great desert which was once continental Europe and Asia, they are mostly based around springs or wells which still occasionally appear to supply life giving water. Coasts are largely abandoned, the acidity of the sea and the leviathans that dwell beneath the waves make sea travel all but impossible. The roads between these settlements are dry, dusty and deadly. Roving bands of killers and outlaws prey on travellers, huge insects, reptiles or crustaceans roam the desert and will devour any unlucky humans they can catch. But still there is money to be made in transporting goods between settlements for those who are brave, crazy or desperate enough. These wandering traders, known commonly as "dust runners" drive vehicles of war, tanks mostly, without them they would be killed. All risk their lives in order to make a living in the hell that the world has become, but they provide a vital service and are rewarded with water, food or gasoline as well as the occasional additional perks that come with the job.

Thus enters Rick Buchanan, a dust runner who's going through a spell of bad luck. First he lost his last cargo to a particularly persistent group of bandits, then he ran afoul of one of the giant reptiles known to wander the deep sands, his crew was killed and his M4 Sherman tank was badly damaged. Only he survived, he managed to patch his tank up as best he could and limp into the nearest settlement. While his Sherman gets put back together he's looking for a new crew, that's where you come in.

The World
The game is set in our world, although it has almost completely transformed. Following the nuclear war the world went through extreme desertification which has turned most of the world into a dry, arid wasteland. The acidification of the seas is so extreme that no boats can be cast out to sea without their hulls being eroded completely and causing the vessel to sink. Our story is set in what was once Europe, news spreads of civilisations on other continents Asia and Africa through particularly brave merchants or adventurers. Long distance travel is a very dangerous affair and most people don’t leave the settlement that they were born in. Giant beasts roam the deserts of the world, mostly evolved or mutated versions of insects, crustaceans or lizards that exist in the world of today. In the seas there are huge leviathans that have evolved to survive in the acidic waters.

Technology ranges from primitive, almost stone age, up to modified or copied technology from before 1959. All the vehicles, weapons and other equipment are based on relics from the time before the nuclear war.

Settlements are usually ramshackle affairs, often with stockades or palisades surrounding them. Some even have gun emplacements or artillery/anti-tank guns that they use to fend of creatures or bandits. They are all settled around water sources, the size of the water source determining the size of the settlement. Some are run by bandits or warlords who rule with an iron fist, others have rudimentary democratic leadership.

@hoppiholla391 Val looks good, I like her a lot. I'd like if we held off on posting the characters in the character tab until we have all the roles filled so hang fire on that for now. But I definitely think she'll be our engineer/loader.

@Dragonbud I like Willow too, I'd like you to be our driver so go ahead and add on a bit of back story where she learns to drive.

We just have to wait for a suitable gunner character now and then we can jump right in. Very promising characters so far, well done to both of you.

@Dragonbud Looks good to me, all that remains is to fill the gunner role. Hopefully we can get some interest soon and get the ball rolling.

Name: Michael Green

Gender: Male

Age: 38

Skills:
  • Marksmanship
  • Spearman
  • Javelin throwing
  • Motorcycle Driving Proficiency
  • Great singing voice (woohoo)

Background: The red dust always looked like it was on fire when the sun set. The sky would burst with throes of passion as the land swallowed it up to bring the cool of night. This beauty stains Michael's mind with the constant picturesque.

Michael remembers his childhood with fondness, because sharp smells and bright images colour his recollections. His family was rather high in the rankings of their tribe. Bright reds and white tassels adorned their uniforms, and it was from a very young age that he was taught to hold and shoot a gun.

Michael believes that there is no shame in violence. The only shame is in returning home with nothing to show for it.

For, out on the desert sand, the roving Burgandies are scavengers. They prey on the weaker. The mothers support it, even help train their children towards it, and Michael, of the Greenbloods, is expected to be the best, because his bloodline was furnished with the best.

But in his first raid, Michael was thrown from his vehicle. He fought as best he could, struggling against their grasp, but with ropes they bound him, and with stones they knocked him senseless.

He served as their prisoner for 7 years. More a slave than anything, he was cursed that the chieftain's wife favored him. He could not understand their language, nor their customs, but he understood their brutal ethic. They fought for sport, and loved blood and pain. Torture here let them remember they were alive.

Michael believed this was because they did not watch the blossoming sunsets, nor feel the comforting caress of the wind.

The face of brutality is not in violence alone, but in the selfish imposing of one's desires onto the other. This did Michael learn from the chieftain's wife, whose blatant stares and favor-some smiles seemed at first harmless, even beneficial. He could hear, though he did not understand the language, she and her lover quarrel with explosive, clanging noises that erupted in their tent each night. He had assumed that she interceded for his life, since he had watched all the rest of the prisoners be bled to death and then eaten. So he returned her silent admirations with an accomodating, and grateful smile, an inclination of the head. It became a common thing for her to separate from her lover, and stand beside him as he labored over the tents, or carried the weighty packs of this barbarous tribe. At least that was how things went for the first few years. By about the fourth year, she became bolder. Touch an arm here, brush by his leg there. Michael thought the contact comforting -- he had been alone for so long with only his thoughts for company -- but as he gained the chieftain's ire, he came to despise the wife for it. Weekly beatings, from warriors, though when the chieftain stepped in they were the worst, became the norm, and however loudly he demanded she desist, the wife continued, even being at times more blatant. Michael came to believe that he was only a pawn to anger the chief, a toy in their dispute.

On the equinox of Spring, the day of transformation, her lover drank much drink, and slumbered deeply. The chieftain's wife stole into Michael's exiled side of the camp, and fell upon him with singleminded intent. The encampment was alerted by his cry of surprise and fear, and the warriors that rose from their slumber were unforgiving, and beat him senseless, and continued even after. When he awoke the next morning, bloodied and swollen, tied to a slobbering camel, he could only wonder at what had transpired.

He did not know the way home, and had little in his possessions. It was sheer luck that had him picked up by a passing crew of dust runners. He took up arms as a loader for their crew, and after the gunner was shot down for cheating in a poker game, he took up the guns and made a fine run of it.

Bad blood was seeded between the brothers that worked as driver and engineer, however. When they came to blows and turned feral on one another, he knew he had to get out, since such disunity would get them all killed and neither brother would step down from their position.

So at the first town, Michael took his leave of them, and wished them all the best in finding his replacement.

To be cut loose required his purse, so every cent was given to the brothers Venn that his freedom might be bought.

Equipment: Brown pants and a white shirt that in good fortune he managed to snatch from a clothed corpse. In addition, he carries in his boot glass wrapped into a knife. Tied to his back or carried in his left hand is a long, flexible line of metal that has a long needle-like point at its end.

@RIGHTEOUSwench Your bio is very eloquently written and I like the concept of your character. But can you please make your background a little clearer? What drama occurred that allowed Michael to escape?

XD I was in such a hurry before falling asleep that I just summarized it. Thanks, and will edit it posthaste. But before that, a question. Do I need to give Michael experience as a gunner and what kind of equipment would a gunner need to have?

He would need some experience yes, my character will be going into a settlement looking for a crew that he can rely on so he would be looking for people who know what they're doing. As for equipment it would just be personal items, the gun etc are all part of the tank so he wouldn't need any specialist items really.

So once we're ready to go I have a few ideas of how we should begin. As I've said before, my character has just lost his last cargo and his crew and he's driving his damaged tank into the nearest settlement. He's going to put his tank in to be repaired and then he's going to the nearest tavern to pick out some new crew members. All of your characters will have found their way to this tavern and this is where we'll be meeting.

That sound good to everyone?

The maximum amount of players for this roleplay is 4 but I said at the beginning that it isn't first come first serve so feel free to post a character sheet if you'd like to.

Just to make sure,@Dragonbud and @hoppiholla391 are you still with us?

Right, I've looked through all the bios and made my decision. They're all very good but the final group for this roleplay will be @Dragonbud as our driver, @hoppiholla391 as our loader/engineer and @RIGHTEOUSwench as our gunner.

If you could please all post your characters in the character tab. I'll get a first post up as soon as I can.
