James Doran, or JD for short, walked to the Cerulean City Gym, a water gym that had his first ever badge he was to collect. Mothinng would stop him and his Charmander from defeat, even if he was of the opposite element. This will just prove that I'm ready to be a Pokemon master . . . Or at least ready to start my journey

Artemis was swimming in the pool with her squirtle. She had been forced to train all day long after she lost one fight. Her parents never wanted her to lose but she knew that it was impossible to never be beaten even once in life. She looked up when her parents told her to get out. A young boy her age was about to come into the gym. She got out drying off to great him at the front door.

Princess hopped over crawling up onto her shoulder. She sat nuzzling into Artemis's neck softly purring in a way. Artemis waited to see who was to come in. She could not believe her parents were making her fight for them.

James made it to the gym but couldn't bring himself to knock yet. He could only stare at his pokeball, second-guessing himself. "I just have to get it out of the way." James said to himself, breathing deeply. "Its time to start my way to becoming a Pokemon Master!" Then after a moments pause, "too bad I'm doing it alone . . ."

James sighed then opened the door, seeing a young woman about his age with a cute little eeve. "Hello," he almost croakes, "I m looking for the gym Leaders?"

Artemis blushed when she saw him walk in. He was actually...very cute. She smiled. "Welcome to the Water Gym!" She said as the door was pushed open. "I am going to be your gym challenger today. My name is Artemis. What is your name?" She asks smiling but trying to be serious. She was not very good at that. She was not the best pokemon trainer since she only had one pokemon. Eeve didn't even fight, she was her pet mainly.

James was taken back, he was fully expecting to fight an adult today! Not someone his own age . . . and kind of cute . . . he thought to himself, blushing slightly, turning slightly red.

"I have to fight with you?" He asked, confused. "Why am I not fighting the regular gym leaders?" James gripped his pokeball hard, shaking with a newfound hesitation.

Artemis smiled. "My parents are helping me trained to be a new pokemon master!" She says as Eeevee calls out in response. "This is Princess. Dont worry you wont be fighting her. She is a family pet." She said with a small laugh as Eevee licks her cheek softly. "If you want I can ask if they want to fight? But they would just get mad at me thinking I chickened out again." She said softly hoping it would help him give her a chance.

James smiled, delighted. "No, no, that's fine by me. It's my first gym match! Heck, maybe one day we could travel together? Who knows." He laughed, a little bit shy. "What Pokemon will I be going against?" James knew he had a slightly better chance of winning with a fire type against Artemis than one of her well trained parents.

Artemis eyed him up and down trying to see if it was worth giving up her stratagy. Her parents would be mad if she did. "Lets get inside to the arena. You will soon find out my best pokemon I have ever trained." She said knowing it was true. It was her only one. She had nothing to base it off.

"That seems fair," James says with a friendly smile. "Let's go check it out! I want you to meet my pokemon." James says, tossing his pokeball up in the air lightly, catching it with both hands every time. "He's wicked nice, which is quite a surprise being that most of his kind are very rude and obnoxious."

Artemis smiled as she walked down the hallway. On the sides of the walls there was various water type and electric type poke-mon all over the walls. "Its just up ahead. I hope you can...Swim." She says as she pushes the door open to a fresh water pool as big as a football field.

James stopped, confused and stunned. "Why will I have to swim?" He was worried about his charmander and the flame on its tail. "how am I supposed to fight only in water? that's not really fair if my pokemon can't even move without dying."

Artemis laughed out when he said that. "No...we are the water gym. You may get splashed so we ask if you want to be in your swim suit or not." She said thinking why he was worried about this. He must be a fire type. She might have a chance to win this with her Squritle.

James was worried about the setting for his first gym battle but he wouldn't let it get to him too much. Life always throws out counters. His father has told him years ago, "Always expect to fight your opposite. If you are fighting with fire, expect Water or ice"

James laughed and grabbed his pokeball. "No point in wasting anymore time, then!" James threw his pokeball in the air towards one of the few landing pads on the field. "Come on out, Charmander!" A flash of light from the pokeball was replaced by a short two-feet tall orange pokemon with a bright red flame on its tail. "Cute isn't he?" James chuckles when Charmander see's the water around him. "You'll be alright, little buddy. We've practiced in this before. Just remember our training!"

Artemis just laughed as she had Eevee go to the empty seat next to her. She pulled off her shirt and jeans to show a full diving suit that clung to her body perfectly. She smiled at James and threw her pokeball right over the water. "Go Squirtle!" She called out as the blue turtle dove into the water deep before jumping into the air making a huge splash of water all around her getting her hair wet. "Lets do this!" She calls out pointing to the Charmander. "Bubble Attack!" A stream of bubbles flew towards his pokemon hoping to connect.

James was stunned by the sight of her in a bathing suit, but he quickly gathered his wits when she order the Bubble Attack. "Jump, Charmander!" I yell, watching Charmander obey my command the second it's given. "Give that turtle a blast of fire! It can still roast within it's shell." James laugh as a strong line of fire shoots out of his pokemon's mouth. I now it'll cool off in the water . . . but I only need to inflict enough damage over time in order to knock it out. James thought to himself. Charmander just has to keep his flame alive.

When the flames headed back towards Squirtle, Artemis smiled. "Dive in the water!!" She called out as the small turtle dove into the water but some of the flames nicked his stomach. He cried out as he made it into the water swimming around to help cool off. "We can take him buddy!" She called out when the doors were shoved open. Her mother and father walked inside with out a word and Artemis did not even look at them. "Water attack Squirtle!" She called out as he sprayed a huge stream of water.
