From my understanding the mechs take a more realistic approach, I'm picturing the Titans from Titanfall. Would that be a close approximation?

I don't know much about Titanfall, as I haven't played the game (I don't currently own a next-gen console). But from what I have seen of the mecha from that game, then sure. That, Gundam (Especially the Universal Century series and excluding G-Gundam), Macross, Patlabor, VOTOMS - basically anything where the mecha are mass-produced weapons of warfare equipped with recognisable weaponry and equipment, rather than flashy super-attacks, summoning your mecha, and fighting the monster-of-the-week.
Or shouting. Lots of shouting.

The info sheet about the GEARs in the OP has all the info you'll need about how they fit into the setting and their characteristics. This TV Tropes page has some good info too.

It's not looking likely I'll manage to get an IC post up tonight, due to over-running on other things I had to do. I'm busy with birthday celebrations until Sunday afternoon, so I'll try and get one up then. Sorry for the delays.

Sure thing, that would work. A few more independent states would fit in nicely, as I intend for us to visit a few more of them in the future. I was also planning on doing a map of Arvara shortly, so if you let me know where it is, I can put it on there (well, other than being somewhere north of Landren).

Just remember that Arvaran history is actually very short, and it's an artificially created society, so there aren't really a lot of customs, rituals, etc. However, I can see a monarchy arising from a family being influential and charismatic in a particular community or territory.

I'll get a summary of plot events up ASAP, as alas I don't quite have time to do it right now. I think only about a month and a half at maximum has actually passed in game time. It's probably actually significantly less than that, which is one of my issues with things dragging so far.

The docs linked at the beginning of the OOC cover world history as it still stands, and it hasn't changed so far.

So, I managed to get a post up after all. It mostly finishes off the enemies. I'll do a separate one for the fireteam/Kellia, and also following up on Machine's last post too. Cart and I have been collaborating on a post also, and that should go up after.
Incubus and Shadowman, if you'd like to get response posts up, that would be awesome and I'll get IC replies up to them as soon as everything is squared away. This should move us on out of this battle, and into the aftermath, which takes us onto our next location, and into the opening up of the wider plot, and what's really going on.

I've added a new drop-down to the OP on the OOC thread detailing - briefly - what's happened in the game so far. Which, honestly, isn't actually that much.

If anyone else remembers anything important that I've missed out, please let me know and I'll add it in. Though, I am trying to steer away from too many references to particular personal incidents, as we've had so many people come and go, and its' supposed to be 'broad strokes' more than anything.

Hope this helps you newcomers with catching up a bit!

All looks good to me, your GEAR is slightly underarmed, but then as they all have hardpoints, you can equip what you want or need for each mission.

Well, looking at it, you have the hand-held rifle, and then a hardpoint-mounted anti-infantry weapon, and the standard-close combat weapon. You get anti-infantry machineguns for free at no hardpoint allocation, and the same with the hand-to-hand weapon. So, you have three remaining weapon/equipment slots on your GEAR to fill with whatever you want. But, as I said, they don't have to be filled right away. They can be configured however you want depending on the mission, rather than on your sheet.

Also, Cart, you need to check your PMs, I have sent you one.

Going to get the post up for the infantry team now, just to keep things moving.
