History:
"Silver!" Mama called from the cottage, peaking her head out the door. "Silver, get in the house now before you catch your death of cold!" She scolded, as she noticed her daughter playing barefoot in the freshly fallen snow. Inca and Misu, the wolf pups, trailed behind her, snapping their tiny puppy teeth playfully at her feet.
"Yes, mama" Silver hollered, obeying with a quickness, lest she feel the sting of her mama's hand.
She was not a bad mama. She just worried to much, Silver thought.
"What we're you thinking? " Mama snapped at her. "Going out there dressed like that! Its freezing!" She swatted her daughter lightly on the bottom. "No more of that. You're to stay in today. I won't have my only daughter catching fever. It'll be the death of us all if you fall ill. You know your papa can't afford a doctor. " Mama wobbled across the room to her oven, wide backside jiggling like the fresh pudding she carried.
"But Mama, it doesn't feel cold to me." Silver whined, having felt quite comfortable out in the snow.
"Oh no, I won't be hearing any nonsense from you young lady. Now get over her and soak the venison again. This time really beat it. Its still far to salty for dinner."
Silver sighed, but obeyed her mother, plopping the thick slab of meat into the water. Silver didn't see why they had to salt the meat. She knew the ice was plenty enough to keep it fresh, but Mama insisted.
As she pounded her tiny fists relentlessly into type meat, She heard a commotion from outside. One look out the tiny window showed Inca shove her teeth into one of the rabbits her father had hauled home. "Inca, no!" She yelled out the window but Inca didn't listen. The pup took off towards the woods. Silver knew her father would not afford the loss of his kill and watched as he knocked an arrow into his bow. Silver ran to the door. "No!" She screamed, throwing her hands out in fear. Thick shards of ice shot forward. She watched in horror as they impaled her father. Thick red stains bloomed from the wounds. A distinct ringing blared in her ears. Siver could nor move or even cry out. She thought she heard he mama screaming but couldn't be sure. She felt like she was shaking. No. She was shaking. Mamas hands were on her shoulders, eyes red with fury and fear. "What are you? " she was screaming. "Bring me my child, changling. " Her words came from between clenched teeth. They confused Silver. Wasn't she Mama's child? Mama's balled fist caught her off guard, nearing her face. Silver recoiled, feeling that tingling from before. She knew without looking what she had done to mama.
She turned heel and ran, unable to face her mother's death. She ran and ran, Inca and Misu at her heels.
She ran for a full day and when night fell she curled up between her wolves, tears streaming from her eyes.
