Cooper sensed something... odd going on here, but she wasn't about to question Lila about it. Sure, that was a weirdly romantic thing to do to a car, but maybe it was a driver thing. Even if it wasn't, Lila was her friend and also she just got forty marks from her; she could have made out with the steering wheel and Cooper probably wouldn't have said anything.

"They what?!" Marcella stared at Max, the familiar feeling of helplessness pooling in her chest. She wanted to help him. Wanted to stop these people, whoever they were, or at least find the right words to say. Yet the resigned look on Maxwell's face was enough to tell her that it would all be in vain. The Italian sighed and shook her head. "At least promise me that you'll be alright..."

Marcella was reluctant to let the subject drop, yet decided not to push any farther. Still, she couldn't help but hold onto a shard of concern for her friend. Checking a pocket watch inside her bag, the Italian swore softly. She had stayed later than expected The last train back to her town was gone by now, and the light pitter-patter of rain outside was enough to convince Marcella that walking was a bad plan. "Is it alright if I stay here for the night?" she requested. "I promise I'll pay for all my trouble."

"Thank you, Max." Marcella followed him into the kitchen. She carefully set her bag on the counter, an almost shy expression on her face. Never had she really been treated as a guest before. She'd always been too busy to visit anyone or make new aqquaintances. "I suppose I'm a bit hungry."

After rummaging through the apartment for a few minutes, she finally found four ten Mark tokens and walked back down to street level. The moment she stepped out of the building, she was greeted by the sight of Cooper. She walked over and held out a closed fist. "Here ya go!"

Marcella wasn't hungry. She was starving. The doctor devoured the soup with surprising gusto, forcing herself to slow down in risk of a stomach ache. Breakfast had been skipped and Marcella had been too preoccupied for lunch. She hadn't eaten all day. "I owe you. I truly do," Marcella said as she finished her meal. She paused, her spoon tapping against the bottom of the empty bowl. "Although I should probably look into what I came here for originally. Do you know anything about the illness going around?"

"Thank you so much, Lila. Really, you have no idea how much this means for me and my family." She said warmly, cupping her hands and holding them out to accept the marks. It was moments like this that made Cooper remember why she became a Metalheart; being able to help people and pay for necessities for the ones she loved... that's what was really important.

"You're doing good. Great, actually." A ghost of a smile danced across Marcella's lips. "Better than me." She rose from her seat, taking her bowl and placing it on the sink. "Thank you again, Max." She grabbed her bag and began to dig through it. "I know you said you didn't need payment, but think of this as a gift. And don't you dare say no." She withdrew a bag of Marks, close to seventy or so, and placed it on the table. With a goodnight wave, Marcella headed into the guest room.
