He was a foolish and brash magickal practitioner with too much time on his hands and too many expectations placed on him. She was the unfortunate demon he accidentally summoned when trying to acquire more power.
See, his mentor was pushing him to be the best and to become the number one apprentice in the fantasy city of Santalmo. Fearing failure, he stole a book of infernal practice and tried to tap into nether-energies of the demon realm to boost his power. What he got was a demon. But due to his lack of experience in profane summonings, it was not fully subservient or in his control. Indeed it was tied to his power, but it had all its free will and intellect. And so the struggle began.
Their collective energy was greater than either one of them, and they had to share it out between them. One could pull more towards themselves, giving them a greater share and the other losing it. And they both knew that if either one of them got 100% of the power, that the tether would break, leaving all that power in the one individual.
He also had to keep her a secret, else be burned for forbidden profane magicks.

I'll be playing the role of the male, and you the female demon. We have to work together to keep you hidden, but we cannot be too far apart. We physically cannot exceed a certain distance from each other. But at the same time, we are trying to steal and assimilate as much power from the pool as possible. The more you take from the other, the harder it becomes to get more. it naturally will try to level out at 50% each.
And to weaken each others will power, etc, we would use any means at our disposal. The female demon could well try using her body.
