Hidden Thread?

I just logged on to find a thread I had posted in and subscribed to was both closed and hidden.
I can get why it was closed, but I'm more wondering about why there is a need to hide the thread?

If it's hidden why can I see that it is? Is it just individuals that are hidden, or is it an option that effects everyone?

Threads being hidden means they were soft deleted (which is how thread deletion on old RPG worked too) to take them out of view of the public eye. Only mods and people who previously subscribed to a thread can see that it exists.
