@HaltingBlooper You can make thermite yourself, as the man in this video did, and make the canon yourself, as the man in this video did. Colin Furze is a plumber with decent mechanical knowhow. Carmen is a engineering student with access to the labs and machines at the college. I think he'd be able to make both, no problem.

So, with this episode, we can get a pretty good idea as to the basics of what happened during the first steps on earth and the first gem war. Like other planets (probably), Homeworld set down on Earth to colonize it and use it to create more Gemkind. This was met with resistance by both the humans and those who sought to protect Earth from the chaos that Homeworld had wrought before to other planets. When Homeworld realized that it was a loosing battle, they sent out a nuke in an attempt to wipe Earth from Gem history, so nobody would ever realize what resistance Homeworld faced on earth, and how they almost lost. This nuke, however, was not to kill. It corrupted all of Gemkind who could feel its effects, Homeworld hoping that the corrupted Gems would be able to take out the humans for them, leaving the earth lost and alone.

Rose's shield saved her and the crystal gems from the corruption, and the remains of the rebellion did what they could to bubble all of the corrupted gems and keep the earth safe.

Did you see how her crew seemed to be smaller than her, yet they are all Cat's Eye gems, according to the other centipeedles? Maybe gems have sort of captain(in the words of Steven) versions so that they don't feel like they are just the wimpy underlings, because look at this! It's a them, but stronger! Have fun with this you-captain instead of something to remind you of your disposability! Now go, do our stuffs!
But if there actually are captain versions of normal gems, what do you guys think that your gems would look like? Gems like Bloodstone and Aqua are pretty obviously excluded. Same with non-combat gems.

I'm not sure that our gem was any stronger then the others, as her centipeetle form wasn't any bigger than the others. She might just be a captain, kind of like the one Ruby that was leading the others in 'Hit the Diamond'.

@HaltingBlooperEh, I think that theory needs a bit more evidence, and it seems a bit like a waste of resources(or just strange) to make a stronger version of a weaker gem, when you can just make strong gems with those same resources.

But why bother making Cannon fodder strong? They're not worth strengthening from a logistical perspective, and given how Homeworld seems to function, I can't see them doing it in order improve moral or anything like that.

They're basically a ultra-bureaucracy with a deep-running caste system.
