Biography: Maria runs a circus, the most unlikely place for Death himself to fall in love. Thanatos originally went to the circus to claim a soul, but when he saw Maria dancing on the back of a pure black Friesian horse he fell so deeply in love he could’ve been in Tartarus. And after that, targets of the gods became drawn to the circus and Thanatos had his chance to talk to Maria. To make a long story short, Alina was born and the two maintain contact to this day. Thanatos told Maria all she needed to know about CHB, though Maria wanted Alina to have the most “regular life” possible. Alina has lived her whole life in the circus and has been home-schooled by her mother and other acts in the circus. She was trained to fence from a very young age and incorporated it into her tightrope act, she now fences on the rope. She never really had the chance to make friends, because the circus only stays for a week.
Alina was first attacked when she was 12. She was taking a break after a long show, when a hellhound jumped out at her. In panic she curled into a ball, preparing for death. A few seconds later she looked up to see a glowing dome around her and the hellhound battering it’s head off of the wall of the dome. After a few minutes of this, the hellhound left. In the months after she was frequently attacked by hellhounds, after trying to fight them with her fencing sword, she turned to hand-to-hand combat for defence. She picked up judo, boxing and akido quickly and still practises often.
One day, after Alina had barely fought a flock of Stymphalian birds away from an adolescent hellhound that was bleeding out and was subsequently wounded, Maria decided enough was enough and asked Thanatos for assistance. Thanatos sent a satyr to take her to camp. Before the satyr arrived, Maria told Alina what was happening and gave her a celestial bronze fencing sword she was given by Thanatos years before. Alina took the news surprisingly well and packed her bags immediately. After an emotional goodbye to everyone at the circus, she left for camp alongside Woodrow.

Demigod Abilities: She can create shadow weapons and shields, shadow travel, speak to the dead, sense deaths of any kind and conceal herself in shadows.

Weapons/s: Alina has a celestial bronze fencing sword given to her by her mother who received it from Thanatos as protection for her once she was old enough. If she is separated from her sword, she can summon a Stygian iron sword made partially of shadows that saps her energy the longer she uses it.
