I'm sure you've all heard of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, right? I fell in love with the story as a child (even more so when I took part in a production of it in school), the tragic love Nancy felt for Bill Sykes, the bustling streets of Victorian London and, of course, the Artful Dodger. So why don't I make a roleplay out of it?
London, 1870, the Victorian era. It has been four years since Bill Sykes hung himself for the world to see, Oliver Twist got his happy ending, and the Artful Dodger disappeared into the shadows of the night. Pick pocketing is no less common than it was before, and now street gang rivalry is beginning to brew. These gangs are not the type of gun-wielding gangs you see today, no, these gangs are thieving orphans forced to stick together like family in the filth of the slums of London. One of these gangs is now led by the one and only Dodger, 18 years old and as quiet as a whisper on the breeze. Some claim he isn't real, that he died after his beloved boss and father-figure, Fagin, was brought to justice. Maybe those accusations are true, maybe not. But one thing is for sure - he has competition.
A single fiend, name unknown to everyone, has started to terrorise the streets of London with unmatched finesse. Much to the dismay of the other gangs of London, this thief is stealing all of their trinkets. Pocket hankerchiefs, gold watches, necklaces and rings, you name it and it'll be gone. Because of this, pickpocketers are growing sloppy, slow and lazy - thievery hangings are becoming more and more common. London is in turmoil. Well, at least moreso than it was before.
Basically, this 1x1 roleplay will be set in Victorian London four years after the events of Oliver Twist took place. You will be playing the Artful Dodger, and I the mystery thief (or vice versa if you're resilient on it). This pairing will explore rivalry groing into love, the hardships of living in the slums and in poverty, and a lot of death - so be warned.
