Welcome to the waiting room, you who have passed on in from the living world.

Waking up, or at least, the closeted thing to waking up…dying one moment, fading away into the darkness, then opening your eyes and finding yourself here…you look about you. To those of the modern times, the rows of chairs back to back, along with the stacks of magazines piled on the side tables, the front desk…this is the reception and waiting area of a hospital. To those of past eras of old, this is just some sort of unfamiliar room. Regardless of time and space, you all notice the soothing ‘clean smell, not so much a smell as instead a lack there of. The area is well lit, but the window’s outside show…a blackness, and to some, a dark blue, dotted in pinprick sized lights. Stars.

There are a few others in this area, all dressed and styled in their time and place’s clothing, sitting in the chairs and waiting pleasantly enough…and you feel like you too are waiting for something. From the depths of your mind, you know that you are waiting for your next chance at life. Reincarnation. You may look over at the front desk, and meet the petite receptionist’s heart shaped face. She may smile at you, and somehow, feel like she is confirming to you ‘yes, this is the afterlife’. You may be looking about you, peering over at the others more carefully…at the same time, others are looking around, even at you.
Sitting between the Viking and the samurai, Allison blew over the dainty porcelain cup of steaming hot tea, before bringing it up to her lips to drink deeply. The woman wearing a tennis outfit across from her took hold of the metal rod to the side, and tended to the hearth, poking the fire back into a more energetic form of life. Life…something so distant, and yet it never left them. Even now, after their death, they felt ‘alive’. Grounded to what they once were…? Or maybe death hadn’t kicked in, not for them, unlike those with their numbers.

Slapping a hand on the ground and pushing herself up, Allison waved off the other’s looking over at her curiously, and proceeded over the tatami mats. Another samurai nodded at her as she passed, acknowledging her before stepping out into the snow, as she continued to another screen door. Pushing it open, she stepped out onto the cold cobbled stone of the dark London streets. Weaving around the horseback riders, armoured, naked, cloaked, and/or bleeding…she stepped into an alley and wrenched the first door open. Stepping out of the cold alley, her feet met the carpet of the waiting room…one of many, connected to many more. There seemed to be a number of new people today.

Hajime opened her eyes. This was not the bathroom where Hajime had slit her wrists. It was a waiting room. And it was warm. This made Hajime very unhappy. She got up and walked over to the receptionist's table.
"Do you have any iced lemon tea?" Hajime asked the receptionist. Her favorite drink would make her feel at least a bit better. The receptionist put a can of iced lemon tea on the desk. Hajime had to jump to grab the can. Once she had the can she walked to a seat. Hajime opened the can and rook a sip. It was delicious. She continued drinking feet dangling above the ground. Hajime noticed people in different clothing styles. That was interesting, where was she?

The last thing he smelled was her scent.

At last.... It is over...

But when he opened his eyes... He was not in his home, painstakingly carving row after row of numbers deep into his chest and abdomen.... He was... in some strange place, with chairs in a style he had never seen before placed uniformly about him. Noting the others at rest did not ease his tension, it only increased it by their strange appearances. He looked around, bewildered, and reached for his blade...

Yet it was gone. He looked down at his chest, and no blood left his body. His Kimono wasn't even open anymore. In a small panic, he rushed to the woman behind the counter, narrowly dodging the little girl that had just gotten her drink.

"Miss! Where are we?!"

The receptionist peered at his face for a moment, before reaching under the counter and producing a tokkuri and a single sakazuki. Placing the cup closer to the samurai, she calmly poured the lightly steaming sake for him, "This is the afterlife. Here, have some sake." Seeing the red head standing away from the others, she motioned Asshat to come over, holding up a can of Redbull, "Hey, Miss Butthead! You like Redbull, do you not?" She didn't seem to say this in mean spirit, but the girl looked none too please by being called 'butthead'.

From a few seats away from the tiny Hajime, a pretty blonde woman wearing a pink track suit continued to speak to the person to her right, "Gosh...I feel really bad for dying, honestly! At the start of my chemotherapy, it was so painful... just wanted to die. But then, I realised that there were people who really cared for me, who wanted me to live. The last thing in life I remember were people cheering me on, before I was put under and brought into the operating room." The person she spoke to just nodded his head in an understanding manner, even when she started to cry lightly.

As if on cue, one of the doors to the right of the reception area swung open, and tall, tall man of an olive complexion walked in. Scanning over the room with sharp eyes, he caught sight of the woman, "Cathy Maples? It's time." The woman wiped her tears up and smiled, before getting up and following, asking in a less that controlled volume...

"Will I get to choose my next life?"

The shot was painful and the death was arduous. Before he knew it, however, Nico was no longer a prisoner of war. Instead, he was in a waiting room. Somewhere different than he believed the afterlife was, honestly. He was taught there to be a hell or a Heaven growing up, and he believed he would be the one to split hell wide open. A waiting room definitely wasn't what he thought it would be.

He looked around him. He noticed others such as a samurai, a young girl, a woman drinking tea, and a woman in a pink tracksuit who was following after a tall man.

So this was death.

The smell of coffee tantalized Nico's senses. He stood up and walked over to get in line towards the receptionist, wanting to know if he could have a cup.

Hajime heard the woman in the track suit, Cathy, talk about her death. She realized that there were people who really cared for her. Come on, not all of us have that life. You may have been encouraged by others but I certainly wasn't, she thought. Hajime didn't think the afterlife was that bad, besides the fact that it was warm, I mean they gave her iced lemon tea. She wasn't happy, why couldn't her life have been good? Why did she have to get abused? Why couldn't she have lived a normal life? Hajime stood up, she had finished her tea. She walked over to the reception counter again. She put her can on the counter," Thank you for the tea."

A bit shaken, the samurai took the cup and sat down, sitting between a brunette boy clad in camouflage (which he was perplexed about as well) and a young girl that couldn't have been more than five. He was... confused. He would have been outraged, demanding more of an explanation, but the little room full of strange, shiny chairs seemed to speak for itself. Was it possible to be stressed when you died? The samurai sipped at his sake with a shaking hand. He had escaped one curse and leaped into another. What arduous fate would be in store for him here?
He did not feel sorry for himself. He was simply... disappointed. He'd been told the gods would be good to him, especially for committing such an honorable ritual of death. Were the sins of his life too much to transpire?

And what of his wife... and his child...

Ichiro shook his head. Wherever they were, they wouldn't be here. Hopefully safe, basking in Amaterasu's warmth or aiding the moon rabbit as he made his mochi. His daughter had always wanted to do that. They never had the opportunity...

The little girl caught his eye. He looked at her, then turned his head forward to take a deep breath. There were others here, some younger than he. He had to be strong, if not for them then at least for himself. Still, the young girl seemed to be just as old as his daughter when she....

...

"Hello..." He said to her, smiling a bit. "What is... your name?"

"My name is Hajime Hiroshi, what's yours?" Hajime responded to the samurai's question. Her full name... Hajime Hiroshi...
Hajime Hiroshi...Hajime Hiroshi...
No, big sister, no
Get down here
No, you'll hurt me
Come here, little Hajime Hiroshi
No, whenever you use my full name you always hurt me
Your very perceptive aren't you
Go Away!
Get over here!

Hajime was curled up on the chair, shaking. Whenever one of her family members used her full name the would hurt her. Because of this Hajime always had terrible flashbacks when she herd her full name. She was terrified of it.
Chiharu held a candle near Hajime. She moved the flames closer. They licked her neck. It burned. It was unimaginable pain. Hajime's eyes teared up, Chiharu slapped her. The pain continued, like hot pokers branding her skin. Hajime tried to run away. Her sister grabbed her arm. After ten minuets, Chiharu let go, Hajime ran like a rocket to her room. Still now Hajime had the burn scar on her neck from that incident.

At Nico's approach, the woman behind the counter went into the backroom, quickly returning to the front again...this time, with a mug of hot coffee. Somehow, it was made the way he liked it. The receptionist smiled, taking the can set on the counter by the little girl, before turning back to the man, "Do you have any questions for me? I can answer them since, well, you're here!"
The red headed Allison continued to just peer over the people gathered in this waiting room, sipping on her Red Bull...there was a samurai, but she wasn't sure if he was like her, she was even sure about the others. Letting out a sigh, she brought the can to her forehead, letting out a deeper sigh at cold metal and condensation.

"Ah... Ichiro...Haruka." Not noticing her frigid manner, he leaned down a bit. "What's a young girl like you doing spending time in purgatory?" He asked, his voice soft as he was unwilling to bother her.

"I, um, I didn't really have a good life. My family abused me," Hajime responded, calming down a bit. Ichiru seemed like a nice guy," What about you?"
