Miles locked the door behind him. He followed Karah into the bedroom. He watched as she sat down on the bed and told him about her nightmare. He sat down on the bed next to her and tried to comfort her. He couldn't get rid of the dark pit in his stomach. He kept thinking back to how weird Jimmy was acting. He turned and looked at Karah. She must have seen a look of concern on his face. She asked him what was wrong.

He thought about not saying anything at first. He didn't need to worry her more than she already was. However, that pit in his stomach wouldn't go away. Growing up, his dad had always taught him to follow his instincts. He looked at Karah and sighed. "It's probably nothing." Miles started. "My roommate, Jimmy, was acting kind of, strange. I can't really explain it. He was being very, monotone. Almost like a robot trying to imitate people. What really freaked me out was that he called me Miles. He's never called me Miles. He always calls me John Wayne. I'm probably freaking out over nothing." Miles finished trying to force a small smile.

Karah looked at Miles, stricken. "That's not a good sign is it? There is something wrong with this place...I don't want to be here anymore Miles. Im scared." Karah felt like maybe she was acting a bit like a baby, but she couldn't help it, everything she had heard so far was like something you would find in a badly written horror movie. A badly written, horribly scary and gruesome horror movie! Her trembling was getting worse, she was still wearing her pajamas. "What did he say to you other than that? Did he try to get you to stay?" Karah had watched so many movies, and read so many books on subjects that dealt with the supernatural that she thought maybe she could guess what was going on, but that also depended on if someone else ended up dead overnight tonight, but she didn't think she wanted to wait and find out. It was always too late for the people in books and movies when they waited it out.

Miles' face went white. "Y...yea he did." He stammered. Miles' stomach dropped to his feet. "This is crazy." He said standing up. "Nothing's wrong, it's just all...weird." He didn't know if he was saying it to calm himself of Karah. He saw the frightened look on Karah's face. He sat down and put his arm around her. He pulled he close to him. He kissed the forehead as she put her head on his shoulder. "We just don't know what's going on." Miles said softly.

"Tell you what." Miles said trying to perk the situation up. "We can't just leave. We have nowhere to go and noway to get there, Let's stay here today. We can figure out what to do for tomorrow." He smiled slightly as he pulled her chin up so he could look in her eyes. "It's dangerous just to run out of here without a plan. That sound good to you? Give it today to get a plan together? I promise I won't let anything happen to you."

Karah nodded, "If we do decide to leave, I have about $500 saved up from working. We could get a bus ticket or something." Just then there was a knock on the door, Karah looked at Miles and stood up and walked very slowly to the door, she looked through the peephole and saw Diamond. How the hell did she know what room was Karah's?? Karah looked at Miles and mouthed Diamond's name at him. She then turned her attention back to the peep hole and looked out it again, Diamond had her eye up to the peephole too. "I know your in there Karah, I can hear your breathing through the door. Scared are you?? No reason to be scared of me, I wont hurt you...Too badly that is." Karah backed up away from the door, the dead bolt wasn't locked. Holy shit the dead bolt wasn't locked. Please let this be like regular vampire stories and that she cant get in without me inviting her...Karah thought to herself. She looked at Miles and then back at the door. Suddenly she wanted to run, and never look back.

Miles nodded as Karah told him about taking a bus and heading out of here. While he still thought just up and leaving wasn't a good plan. Something didn't sit right with him about what was going on. A knock on the door interrupted them both. He watched Karah slowly walk towards the door and look out the peephole. Her face turned pale as she turned to Miles and mouthed the name "Diamond". It took him a second, but he remembered the girl from the restaurant. His eyes went wide. Then he heard something that made the pit in his stomach grow ever bigger. She said she didn't want to hurt her, that bad.

Miles wasn't one to hurt a woman, but this seemed like an extenuating circumstance. He quickly went to the kitchen and fished out a steak knife. It wasn't much, but he felt a little more confident with it. He returned and whispered to Karah. "I'm going to talk to her. If she doesn't go away call the cops." Before she could interject Miles went to the door. "I don't know how you are, but whoever you're looking for isn't here." Miles looked out the peephole and saw Diamond step back from the door. "You're the cute looking guy she was with the other day." Diamond said.

"Look lady." Miles started. "I live here alone. I've only been to classes. I haven't been out of campus." He watched as Diamond started to turn away. "Alright then mister big and bad. I guess I'm wrong and I'll leave you alone. If ever want a real woman though." She turned and ran her finger down the front of her shirt. "You just let me know." Miles watched as she walked away and disappeared into the darkness. He breathed a sigh of relief as he turned back to Karah.

Karah looked at the large knife in his hand and her eyes widened, not that he had it but that he thought he would need it. The realization of that thought made it clear to her, they needed to get the hell out of here. If he was thinking along the same lines that she was, then there didn't need to be no huge discussion. They needed to get out of here, something was seriously wrong with this place. Karah listened from the safety of the bedroom, she was ready to spring into action at any moment if she needed to go help Miles. When she heard the front door shut, she ran out into the living area of her dorm room, relieved to see Miles standing there perfect as ever. "Omg Miles the whole time you were out here I was having horrible flashes of her sinking ugly fangs in your neck, or ripping out your heart! Oh curse my imagination....Jeez...What did she say??" Karah was scared as hell, she didn't know what to expect from this Diamond character and she wasn't sure she ever wanted to find out if she was dangerous or not.

Miles walked back to Karah a bit in a daze. Something about Diamond had clouded his mind for a second. He quickly came out of it and address Karah. "Um, she didn't really say anything. She just, left." He avoided telling her the other things she had said in worries that it would upset Karah. "It was really weird. She couldn't have actually believed me that you weren't here. Something is definitely wrong here. I think we should leave." He said, his face a mask of confusion and fear. "The bus stop is about a twenty minute walk from here." Miles said his eyes wandering to the window. He watched as the sun was slowly beginning to set on the horizon. "If we're going to go, we need to go now. Else we need to wait until the morning." Miles didn't know which idea was worse. Trying to make it twenty minutes in the dusk of evening, or staying here for the night.

Karah started throwing her things in a duffel bag, and she couldn't help it tears started streaming down her face. She was scared out of her mind, she had never thought that she would run into something that would try to ruin her life as soon as it started to get better. She looked at Miles, then at the window, it was getting awful dark out there already. "I say we go...or at least try to get off campus. Something isn't right here, I can feel it in my stomach. It scares me Miles." She couldn't help the tears that ran down her face and she didn't try to stop them either. She didn't mind Miles seeing that she was afraid, because she knew that he was also.
She headed for the door, throwing it open and looking out into the hallway. It was deserted, not a very good sign. She looked back at Miles and nodded for him to come on, which he did. Once they were outside of the dorm they both looked around, still not a soul in sight. "Do you think we should continue? There is no one around, and that freaks me out worse than the rest of this crazy shit." She put her hand into Miles' and scooted closer to him, waiting for him to tell her what they should do.

Karah started packing her duffel bag without saying a word. Miles grabbed his book bag and stood near the door, waiting whenever she was ready to go. She then led Miles out the door. She grabbed his hand and his fears calmed a little bit. She looked in his eyes and asked him if they should continue. Miles nodded silently. It was now or never. He looked around, the campus was quiet and seemed deserted. They started to jog towards the bus stop. They would slow down when they reached a building and would slow down to look around before continuing onwards. For the first few minutes all was going well. Miles' hopes began to raise and he squeezed Karah's hand and smiled slightly.

Suddenly a noise from behind caught their attention. Miles stopped in his tracks and turned around slowly. His heart sank as he saw Jimmy slowly advancing towards them. He had that same creepy expression that he had back in the dorm. "Run." He said hastily to Karah as he began to pull her away from Jimmy. They ran for a few minutes. Miles looked over his shoulder. Jimmy was nowhere is sight. "There." Miles said, pointing to the campus security housing. Their pace quickened as that seemed like a good place to rest and regroup. As they were about to pass the last building standing between them and campus security, Diamond stepped out in front of them.

"Shit!" Miles exclaimed skidding to a halt and pulling Karah down to the ground. He quickly recovered and pulled Karah behind him. "Keep going." Miles commanded Karah as he stood up and puffed out his chest at Diamond. "Listen here you crazy bitch." Miles started walking towards Diamond. "I don't know who the fuck you think you are, but I am not afraid to stab a woman." He pulled the knife from his waistband and pointed it at Diamond. Diamond walked slowly towards Miles smiling seductively. She put her hands up as she started to speak. "Oh no. I wouldn't want a young strapping lad like you to hurt a little ole thing like me."

Miles felt the cloudy feeling rise back in his head. He felt his hand get heavy as his arm slowly dropped. Diamond circled Miles running her finger around his neck. "Such a strong young man. You really should be with a real woman." As she walked behind Miles she leaned in to whisper something in his ear. Before she could say anything Karah slammed Diamond down with her duffel bag. "He's mine!" Karah screamed at Diamond. Miles stared down at Diamond then at Karah. If they weren't in life-threading danger, Miles would have been turned on a bit.

Karah pulled at Miles' arm. "Come on!" She yelled at him. The haze began to lift from his mind as he followed Karah to the campus security building. As they neared the door opened and a man waved and yelled at them both. "Come on!" Miles and Karah sprinted the last few yards and collapsed inside as the strange man shut the door behind them. "We should be safe in here." The man said, back braced on the door. "For now."

Karah's heart was racing, had she seriously just done that? Yes, yes she had, and she had done so to protect Miles. Diamond had had some kind of freaky magic thing going on with him, and she could tell that whatever it was, was bad. She was sitting on the floor, the farthest from the door that she could get. "What the hell is going on? Why is Diamond so freaky and what about that boy? One minute he was there, the next he was gone!" She started rocking back and forth, her mind a jumbled mass of questions. There was something seriously wrong at this school, and she didn't want to stay here for another moment. She looked over at the man who had technically just rescued them. "Who are you? Where are the campus security guards?" She started crying again, thinking about Diamond and how frightening she had looked, she could barely remember in all the split second decisions that had been made and all the action but she was sure that she had glimpsed fangs in that bitch's mouth. She looked at Miles, he looked just as scared as she did and she knew that he was. She crawled over to him and curled up against him, her shaking body felt cold to the touch. She felt like she was going to pass out at any moment. "I don't feel good."

Miles fell to the ground, out of breath. He watched with curiosity as the man held his back against the wall. He then turned as he heard Karah crying and freaking out about what just happened. Miles couldn't believe it either, but he was better at holding it together. He silently thanked his dad for showing how to keep calm under pressure. He moved next to Karah and held her tightly. He let her vent her feelings without saying a word. Suddenly he felt her get heavier as she said she wasn't feeling good. The man looked at them and began walking down the hall, motioning them to follow him. Miles let Karah put her weight on him and helped her hobble after the man.

"Hold on." Miles said, stopping in his tracks. "Why won't they just break down the door? How do we know we're safe here? Why should we trust you?" The man stopped walking and turned to Miles. "First and second question." The man said pointing to the door frame. Miles' eyes followed the man's finger. As he looked he saw strange symbols drawn all over the walls and the door. He didn't know how he had missed it before. "Third question." The man said smiling sadly. "I can't answer that, but I think you'd rather be in here than out there." The man turned and started walking again. Miles looked at Karah to try and get her input, but she was looking pale and was barley responsive.

They followed the man to the back of the building. The campus security building was fairly small. There was the main lobby which they just left. They passed by two offices on either side. One of which looked like a make shift holding cell. In the back of the building was a small room with no window, but had four small beds in each corner of the room. Miles laid Karah down and put a blanket on her. The man handed Miles a bottle of water. Miles poured a small sip of water in Karah's mouth. She swallowed weakly and smiled at Miles. "Are we safe?" She whispered. Miles touched her cheek with his hand. "Yes. Get some rest." With those words Karah laid her head on the pillow and drifted off to sleep.

Miles went over to the other bed where the man sat. Miles extended his hand. "I'm Miles and that's Karah. Thank you." The man shook Miles' hand. "Name's Van. I'm just glad there's a few normals left." Miles sat down next to him on the bed. "What's going on here?" Miles asked. Van sighed heavily. He turned to Miles and began to tell him everything he knew. Apparently Van was from a community college a few miles over. It was a Theology heavy school. About a month ago Van said he started to notice strange things happening on his campus. Just people acting weird, nothing solid. Soon, people started dying. Not more than one or two a week. Van was taking a demonology class and everything that was happening and how people were acting fit into a case study Van was doing.

"I started connecting the dots, and everything was adding up to...to." Van paused and looked down sadly. "A demon uprising." Miles' face went ashen. "I don't know exactly why it's happening." Van said standing up and pacing the floor. "It could have been a summoning done wrong. It could be restless sect of demons." Miles interrupted Van's train of though. "So all those people, are demons?" Van shook his head vigorously. "Not full demons. Just controlled by them. There's probably one or two actual demons in human form, but everyone else is just possessed." Miles fell back on the bed. "Right now were' safe in here. Those markings will keep any demon influence out. I just don't know where to go from here." Van said looking at Miles hopefully. 'If we're safe in here." Miles started. "Let's just get some rest and regroup tomorrow.

The next morning Karah awoke tangled in the sheets of the small bed that she barely remembered Miles putting her to bed in, she sat up ripping the covers off her in a panic. The confinement of them wrapped around her made her think she was caught with someone's arms wrapped so tightly around her that she would never escape. Karah looked over to the bed that was beside hers and saw Miles sleeping soundly in it, worry etched across his face. She wondered how long he had been sleeping, and if he was dreaming? She got up and tiptoed over to his bed, he was on his side and there was just enough room on the bed for Karah to squeeze in under his arm. Which she did, she snuggled her head up under his chin trying not to jostle him around too much and alarm him. She closed her eyes and breathed in his scent, she faced him and reaching up she planted a kiss on his neck. Oh how she wished that things were normal, they were just getting into this relationship and now people were trying to kill them. She sighed thinking about what was going to happen to the two of them was scary, then she remembered. Someone had helped them last night, but who was it and how were they safe here?

Miles laid in the bed for what felt like hours before falling into a light sleep. Suddenly he felt someone next to him. His eyes opened with fear, still not adjusted to the dim lighting. Before his eyes could adjust, his nose caught a familiar calming smell, it was Karah. His eyes adjusted and confirmed what his nose has told him. He smiled slightly as she lightly kissed his neck. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close. For a moment, he forget the events of the past few hours. Then it all came flooding back to him.

He kissed her forehead slightly as he stretched awake. Karah looked up at him through sleepy eyes. "Come on babe. Let's check on our new friend." Miles says as he gets up from the bed. He looks around, but Van is nowhere in sight. They begin to walk to the front of the building. Miles grabs Karah's hand as they reach the front door. Miles feels a slight pang of fear as he sees Van laying, sitting up, against the door. "Hey, uh, Van." Miles says reluctantly touching his shoulder. "Oh, my hair." Van snorts, jerking himself awake. "Jesus Christ!" Miles jumped back. "You're still alive!"

Van stretched as he stood up. He yawned and put his hand out towards Karah. "Karah I assume?" Van asked. "Miles wouldn't shut up about you." Van grinned. With that Van caught Karah up on what he thought was going on. "The fact that these drawings of protection worked to keep us safe. I would think my theory is correct. Now, it's daytime. So, demon activity should be at a minimum. Doesn't mean we're all in the clear though. It just means if there are any actual demons around, we aren't going to be bothered. The possessed people will still be active. They'll be dangerous, but they won't have any powers or anything. So if you can outrun them, or injure them, you're good."

Karah looked at the man, at the moment she feared anyone that could walk and talk that wasn't Miles. She couldn't bring herself to trust anyone easily now, and she stuck close to Miles. "We need to get out of here, I cant stay here, I feel like bait just waiting to be snatched off the line!" Karah was shaking again, "Its daytime cant we leave now? Can we not find somewhere off campus or away from this place altogether? I don't understand anything about demons really, I was expecting something more....silly I guess. Like vampires. Something you can stake in the heart or splash holy water on." She knew that she sounded ridiculous but her fear was taking over her mouth, and she couldn't help it anymore. She gripped Miles' hand and glanced toward the window, the shades were drawn and she saw nothing in the way of shadows to make her believe something was out there waiting to pounce on them, but you never knew anymore.

Miles nodded in agreement with Karah. Van sighed heavily. "Yea, we could get out of here. Shouldn't be a problem, but what then? That was my plan a few weeks ago. Now I'm here and those things are still out there. From what Miles told me one of them seems to be quite drawn to you for some reason." Van pointed a Karah. Miles then spoke up."This is not our concern. We just tell the cops when he get out of here." Van laughed heartily. "Cops? Really? What would you tell them?" Miles looked at the ground. Van patted him on the shoulder. "Not trying to be hard on you or anything. I'm just bringing reality into this. Here's my plan guy. I have like a little mobile demonology lab in my van. It's parked right off campus. I'm going there and regroup. Whatever you all want to do." Van reached out his hand towards Miles'. "I wish you the best of luck." Miles shook Van's hand and looked back at Karah. "Diamond does seem to be drawn to you. Say we run away. Will she follow us? Forever?" Miles took Karah's hand, brought it up to his face and kissed it. "I don't think this is something we can outrun."

Karah shuddered at the fact that Diamond had followed her to her dorm, and stopped them on the street. She couldn't imagine why Diamond would be so drawn to her, the only interaction they had had was when Diamond had treated her like crap in the campus courtyard and then her apology that night. Karah shook her head, "We could run, but what are we going to do if she does follow us? We have no way to protect ourselves, and we don't know anything about fighting these things. Mr Van? Could you possibly...I don't know....teach us a little about this? We wont last on our own." She hated that she said that, but the realization of it made her stomach turn over, if she and Miles didn't know how to fight these things there was no way in hell they would ever outrun it. "You said that this happened at your other campus? Could this be happening every where and we just not realize it? Do you believe that this could possibly be an apocalypse?"

Van smiled a little at Karah's enthusiasm. It was going to be nice not to be in this thing alone. He answered her last two questions as he checked out a window. "I honestly don't know if this is happening everywhere just yet. I assume it's going to be a slow start. Take over once place then go to another. They won't spread themselves too thin. As for if this is the end of days." Van paused for a second. "It might be the beginning." Van returned to Miles and Karah. "It looks pretty clear from here. Shall we make a mad dash for it?"

Karah was scared shitless, and she just wanted to sit down and wait it out. But she knew that if they did that, then they would be sitting ducks, and they would most likely die rather than survive. "Yes I say we make a mad dash for it, point me in the direction and I will run till I get there. Fear drives you." Karah straightened her tshirt that she had managed to pull on over her tank top before they left her dorm yesterday. "You ready Miles? I cant do this without you..."

Miles looked at Karah and smiled at her. "Let's do this." As the words left Miles' lips Van opened up the door and stuck his head outside. Looking around he motioned for the two to follow him. They sped out the door and jogged behind Van. Looking around the campus seemed as deserted as it did last night. The sunlight made it seem a little less creepy. For several minutes the going went smoothly. They were nearing the edge of campus as Van called out to them: "I can see my van right up ahead!" They quickened their pace as the generic looking white van came into view.

As they rounded the administration building, the door suddenly opened. Miles instinctively pushed Karah out of the way of the opening door. Slowly Jimmy walked out of the doorway. "Well well Miles. Fancy seeing you here." Jimmy grinned. "Keep going!" Miles said. Karah stopped and started back towards Miles, when Van grabbed her and drug her away. "We can help him with what's in the van!" Miles slowly walked up to Jimmy. "Come on now Jimmy. Let's talk about this." As he spoke Jimmy reared back and punched Miles right in the face. Miles stumbled back. "What the fuck!" He screamed. "You and your new friend are expendable. Never forget that." Jimmy said striding forwards towards Miles.

Miles rared back and readied himself to fight. Suddenly a bright red cross appeared on Jimmy's forehead. Jimmy's eyes widened as his forehead boiled up and Jimmy fell over. Miles turned around to see Van holding, a paintball gun. With what looked like a cross silencer on the barrel. "Should knock him out. He'll wake up demon free in a few hours. Come on drag him back to the van." Miles, still shocked, began to drag Jimmy. "What was in that?" Miles asked. "A mix of holy water and silver shards. Can't believe it worked." Van chuckled.

Karah yelped as Jimmy came out of nowhere, Miles was yelling at her to run and she wanted to stay but she had no choice, Van drug her away from Miles. When Jimmy reared back and punched Miles in the face, Karah screamed, "No!! Miles!" Suddenly she was at the van and Van himself disappeared, she stood there shaking trying to steel herself up to go over and help Miles, when Van reappeared with some kind of weapon in his hands. He gave her a look before he ran off towards Miles that said You MOVE one INCH and I use this on you! Karah didn't move, mainly out of fear of what lay out there rather than Van.
