Because normally those who are not into anything like geek/nerd culture will see it as something to attack and mock people for liking.
Those who are open minded enough to simply accept a difference of preference have already shown themselves to be not normal simply by being open minded.

In other words to clarify, when I say "Normal" I don't just mean '"You're not a geek/nerd" but "You're not a geek/nerd and will attack and criticize others for it. Therefore not worth my time".

In acknowledging what others may or may not think you pay them homage in the form of time, which could be used on being productive. Love yourself and be happy with that. Judge not, for in doing so you are creating an issue where you may not otherwise find one.

Sometimes though there's the matter of if what they say, think or do goes unchallenged it then thinks itself as right because there is no opposition, and then goes free to do and influence whoever it wants.

In the case of this thread though that's not what's happening, I simply made a reply in jest. And then other people replied such as Kaga a bit confused as to what I interpreted and then your question about accepting and preferences.
