"Thanks," Shiranui said to Nurse Joy.

"Well, we got a couple days, I say we let all our Pokemon rest these last two days."

"I'm fine with that," Shiranui agreed.

Liam just relaxed these last couple days before the prelims started.

Shiranui did similarly while checking out the competition.

liam saw that Trevor finally arrived while he was out doing some training. He came over to Liam and Shiranui. "Losers, did you hear about the guy bragging about becoming the new champ?"

[James Davy]

"He doesn't stand a Gastly of a chance against us," answered Shiranui.

"I hope I get to face that guy, I will tear him to shreds." Trevor said. "I'll see you guys after the prelims." He said before casually walking away. Liam felt that maybe Trevor had grown to like him and Shiranui, even if just a bit. Liam turned to Shiranui, "so, are either of your parents coming to watch the tournament?"

"You bet they are," Shiranui answered, "I let them know during my training." He noticed Trevor's subtle change in personality as well.

"Well, I haven't heard from dad, but mom will be here to help with the multitude of trainers. The center at home is in Florence's care while mom is here."

"That makes sense," replied Shiranui, "You would need multiple Nurse Joys to cater for the many Pokémon that would lose a battle here."

The final days before the prelims elapsed. there were 64 blocks of 64 trainers. These 64 trainers were cut in half to the top 32. The arrogant trainer, who had annoyed Trevor was named Benny. He also made it to the top 32. The announcer said that in the first round each trainer only used 2 Pokemon. In the next round, they used 3, and so on.

Benny beat his opponent using Dewgong and Scizor.

"Scizor, the Pincer Pokemon, and the evolved form of Scyther. Scizor has a body with the hardness of steel. It is not easily fazed by ordinary sorts of attacks. This Pokémon flaps its wings to regulate its body temperature. This Pokémon's pincers, which contain steel, can crush any hard object it gets ahold of into bits."

Shiranui's opponent first sent out a super size Gourgeist. "Gourgeist, the Pumphin Pokémon. It enwraps its prey in its hairlike arms. It sings joyfully as it observes the suffering of its prey." Having never seen such a sadistic Pokémon, he quickly had Kyouchou—now a Honchkrow—dispatch it. The Moxie ability gave Kyouchou a boost in Attack. The next Pokémon was Diggersby. "Diggersby, the Digging Pokémon. As powerful as an excavator, its ears can reduce dense bedrock to rubble. When it's finished digging, it lounges lazily." A Sucker Punch and a Night Slash brought it down.

Liam's father was next. His Alakazam and Breloom took out the opposing Flygon and Sudowoodo respectively.

Virgil won using Flareon and Umbreon against a Victribel and Noctowl.

Cameron's Samurot swept the opposing Rapidash and Fearow.

Liam was finally up. his opponent called on a Persian. Croconaw defeated it. The other Trainer called on Magniaum. Liam substituted Croconaw for Arcanine and won.

Trevor was next. His Pidgeot and Gangar defeated the opposing Swellow and Girafarig.

Benny was in the first battle. His Magnaton beat the opposing Gyarados and lost to the Sandslash. He beat the Sandslash with a Poliwrath, who had a draw with a Hitmontop.

Shiranui's opponent started with a Rampardos. "Rampardos, the Head Butt Pokémon. Its skull is a hard as iron. It is a brute that tears down jungle trees while catching prey." He had Buta take it out with one Earthquake. Next was a Goodra. "Goodra, the Dragon Pokémon. This very friendly Dragon-type Pokémon will hug its beloved Trainer, leaving that Trainer covered in sticky slime." After taking a Muddy Water attack, Buta took Goodra out with a powerful Avalanche. Last was Braviary. "They fight for their friends without any thought about danger to themselves. One can carry a car while flying." A quick Icicle Crash finished the warrior off, giving Shiranui a clean sweep victory.

Thomas used Alakazam, Breloom, and Houndoom to defeat the opposing Muk, Kingler, and Heracross.

Virgil used Glaceon, Leafeon, and Espeon. He didn't lose any of them against the opposing Scyther, Swampert, and Steelix.

Liam's beat Cameron. it was Sherlock, Hydro, and Arcanine against Cameron's Lucario, Hydreigon, and Ferrothorn.

"Lucario, the Aura Pokemon, and the evolved form of Riolu. By catching the aura emanating from others, it can read their thoughts and movements.By reading the auras of all things, it can tell how others are feeling from over half a mile away.

Hydrogen, the Brutal Pokemon. The heads on their arms do not have brains. They use all three heads to consume and destroy everything. t responds to movement by attacking. This scary, three-headed Pokémon devours everything in its path!

Ferrothorn, the Thorn Pod Pokemon. They attach themselves to cave ceilings, firing steel spikes at targets passing beneath them. By swinging around its three spiky feelers and shooting spikes, it can obliterate an opponent. "

"Looks like I'm the one that gets to put that hotshot in his place," stated Shiranui after seeing the quarter-final brackets, "And it looks like I could face your father in the semis."

"Darn, I wanted to be the one to put him in his place." Liam said. "But dad is no pushover, neither is his opponent in the next match. Either way, you will have your hands full next round."

"I can handle it," replied Shiranui.
