Back story: Manami spent most of her life in front of a computer. She was one of those girls who really never had many friends. Even before she found the wonder of the internet she was very anti-social, always preferring to stay inside. Once she got a hold of her first laptop, however, she took off into the infinite landscape of the cyber world. That's where she found her first taste of anime, manga, and video games. Despite not having many friends locally she made a few friends online and has published several mods for games (mostly eroge) that have won her a bit of fame on her regular forums.

Manami breezed through school, never having any major issues, so it was no surprise that she got accepted into Todai University. The transition to Chiba was like coming to a new world and she can hardly wait to meet real Otaku friends as they were practically non-existent in her home town. She is also looking for friends to help her learn about the other parts of creating video games since her only talent is programming. She hopes to one day start her own independent video game company.

Back story:

In Kyoto where he was born, Anri’s father runs a Kabuki theatre. Kabuki, is a form of theatre where all the roles are played by males, therefore, when he was given a son, he was overjoyed. His child would be able to follow in his footsteps. It takes a certain type of man, to be able to play a woman’s role effectively and he hoped that his son would be that type of man. . . Fairly feminine. For those hopes of his, he passed on the name Anri which he felt recently was a more feminine name even if it was unisex.

His father was happy though. Glad to have his hopes fulfilled, he moulded his son to fill an Onnagata role. As an impressionable child, he was happy to do so. Schoolchildren on the other hand, were not so happy with him. They found him too feminine to be a man which made he an outcast for some of his first years of school. He stayed at it however, despite the opinions of his peers and eventually it didn’t matter as everyone forgot about it.

In Middle School it really didn’t matter as most of the people that made him an outcast went to different schools. Some of the others that followed along with the “leader” kids apologized early on in the year and Anri accepted them. Meanwhile, in his practice with his father, his skills improved. He also practiced his voice with some of the other actors to control a more masculine voice or feminine voice on command.

In High School, he had been “taught” most of what could be taught and was put on stage. Many had described his performance as “beautiful” others simply said it was “good”. Regardless, Anri was happy. Still, he had free time now. He asked around a few of his friends and they introduced him to this new-fangled thing called “anime” and “manga”. If nothing else, he appreciated the pictures to them and wished he could do some much as that. As much as he tried, he found he didn’t have the talent to do so.

During high school, he joined a crafts club to learn how to make outfits. He was interested in cosplay, after all. Unbeknownst to him however, the girls in the Crafts Club had a plan for him. They practically forced female clothes and costumes on him. He was more irritated than angry though. Somehow, he ended up crossplaying more than cosplayed. . . The odd thing was it seemed to work well. He liked the attention. . .

Toward the end of high school he decided that he wanted to study other types of theatre, like western theatre. Kabuki was all he knew after all. Hesitatingly, his father agreed to let him go to college in order to study more, on the grounds that he also study a few other specific things as well. Slightly confused, Anri agreed to his father’s terms and went.

Back story: Born to a wealthy family, Kaku’s childhood life was easy sailing. Though most children from such a high class house tend to be pompous and greedy to unfathomable extents, the boy acts in the complete opposite manner. Even though he received whatever he wanted when he asked for it, he soon learned self-discipline and rationality, choosing to not spoil himself. He ended up adapting a reserved personality, rarely bringing up his family’s social standing into conversations. Feeling that his name gave him an unfair leverage, Kaku found himself caring more about others’ lives than his own.

Since his father was the boss of a firm, dubbed after their last name, Kaku would naturally succeed him. The boy had no say nor disagreement to the notion, and began to take his studies with abnormal seriousness, even starting off back in elementary school. But the boy soon found things to fill his free time. Anime and manga became some of his hobbies, as he found the artists’ determination motivating. Striving to assert himself as the head of his family’s corporation, he first had to learn how to support himself before governing a company. Kaku picked up a part-time job to coincide with his studies at Todai University, along with attending seminars unaffiliated with the school. He also ended up fancying writing, as he personally believed that he must appear as stable in paper as he does in appearance.
