"Nope. Of course, I haven't traveled too much, so that's probably why." Desmond confirmed, still seeming amazed by the cute little creatures below them. Though he paid attention to her as she spoke. Desmond tilted his head, somewhat confused about what she meant. He wasn't one to consider himself above others, so being told this gave him a conflicting feeling inside. "Everyone has a reason." He replied, confidently. "Sometimes we just don't realize it right away, or have feelings that make it difficult for us to think we can push through. Things like that can take time to be fully understood." He tried to be encouraging, though wasn't certain if he was any good at it as he hadn't honestly tried it before. It reminded him of when he decided to hold off on getting a Pokemon due to not feeling ready to travel. "..." As April brought up trusting Pokemon, Desmond was silent in thought for a moment. He was broken from his train of thought quickly as she offered for him to give some treats to the Pokemon. "A-Absolutely!" He answered happily, walking over to retrieve the treats from April. As he did so, he couldn't help but speak his mind. "But, speaking of trust... What was with that woman during the battle? How could she simply desert that Cubchoo-" He paused, looking back towards the big Beartic. "Uh- Beartic? It was like the poor thing was nothing more than a tool to her." That woman angered him, but he kept it inside. Not wanting to show it in front of the little Pokemon in front of him. He still didn't have too clear of an idea of what that woman had came here to do, or what that battle was about. A thought crossed his mind that Rick might be able to answer his questions, though Desmond wasn't sure when the man would come home.

"Nope. Of course, I haven't traveled too much, so that's probably why."

"Ahh... I guess there are quite a few things I haven't seen either." She replied, feeling her heart lurch. She swallowed, holding out a few poke treats for Desmond to take.

"I don't know what I have and haven't seen... How should I know what memories I've lost...?

She let out a soft sigh as she offered a poke treat to the Eevee in front of her. Thinking of the Beartic, she walked over to him and gently touched his head to wake him up. He jumped up slightly but smiled as he noticed who she was. Hope, seeing this, came over and sniffed the Beartic. As if noticing something, she got really excited and began licking the Beartic excitedly. April blinked, looking from the Beartic to Hope and then back again.

"Ahh... I'm glad you seem to like him, Hope, but I need to see if he needs any treatments." April spoke, oddly weirded out by Hope's behavior. The Beartic was fairly excited to see Hope as well and was squirming in the overly small recliner. Shaking her head, April chuckled. "Does anything hurt?" She asked, looking him over.

"That's the fun of going out into the world, I suppose. All the new experiences." Desmond said as he took the small treats, looking at them for a moment before crouching down. A few of the baby Pokemon gathered around, all seeming to be after the same thing; Food. "One at a time, please?" He asked with a small laugh, before he began slowly handing them out. Some of the Pokemon decided to scatter about after getting their treats, though a few remained and simply sat in front of the boy. Specifically an Elekid and a Darumaka.

The two Pokemon ate their poke treats quickly, both having their eyes on a prize; One treat Desmond had left in his hand. Desmond simply watched both of them with a worried expression. "H-Hey, you're eating a little fast, aren't you...?" He managed to voice his concern, just as the two finished. It was too late for anything to be done, however, as they were both quick to lunge towards the treat with the intention of snatching it. Elekid fell a little short, catching Desmond's attention. Though the boy was quickly distracted by the Darumaka as it came from behind and jumped, bouncing off of the Elekid and snatching the treat out of Desmond's grasp. Causing the boy's eyes to widen. "Hey!"

Smug as he landed, the Darumaka prepared to scarf down the treat, only for the Elekid to tackle the red, round Pokemon out of anger. The two rolled around the kitchen in a yellowish red ball as they kicked, pulled, and punched.

Desmond had simply stared for a moment, unsure of what to do about the situation. He tried reaching out to stop the two, but almost found himself getting scratched in the process. "Y-Yikes... Uh... Think, think..." His eyes darted about as he stood up, the two Pokemon causing more noise than anything else in the home. Desmond hadn't even called out for April, because his mind was completely focused on stopping these two without injuring his hands. He probably didn't need to, anyways. She'd hear what was happening.

"Ah!" Desmond came to a sudden realization as to how it could be stopped. A smirk crossed his face as he pulled one of the Pokeballs off his belt, holding it out in front of him and releasing Fluff. As she appeared, she did a small flex as if she was ready for a fight, but instead was met with some babies having a quarrel. She looked back at Desmond with a disappointed expression.

"Look, we'll have plenty of time for battling tomorrow! I need you to use Cotton Spore and stop those two!" Desmond rushed Fluff, and though she looked back at the babies, she quickly snorted stubbornly in Desmond's direction to make her point.

Desmond sighed. "Fluff...!"

Rolling her eyes, Fluff released spores from her wool and sent them towards the two Pokemon in their scramble for the treat. They quickly stuck to both of the Pokemon, causing them to fall away from each-other and end up face-up on the ground, unable to move. It seemed they weren't exactly mature enough yet to be dealing with moves like that, but at least they weren't fighting anymore. Fluff quickly walked between the two Pokemon and stared at the poke treat on the floor, before picking it up with a cocky expression and eating it herself.

Desmond's hand met his face soon after, a groan escaping him at the sight of his Pokemon being rude. "That was just uncalled for..."

April was putting medication on the Beartic when she heard a noise from behind her and turned to see two pokemon battling it out for the last treat. Smiling, she put away the medicine and patted the Beartic gently, a silent way to say she was done. Then, she turned to watch what Desmond would do. Those two pokemon were notorious for bickering, something her dad would sort of them soon enough.

She let out a small giggle as she watched Desmond pull out Fluff and have her use Cotton Spore to paralyze the two youngsters. An interesting way to get them to stop. She got up and walked over to the two pokemon, medicine in hand to heal their ailments.

"Now, now. See what happened? you fought for the treat and because of that neither of you got one and you had to take medicine." She chided the two pokemon, patting them on the head. Standing up she pulled the two of them up into her arms and walked over to one corner of the room where a playpen was set up. She set the two pokemon inside before explaining to them.

"Until you're ready to share and be nice to each other, you'll have to stay in here, okay?" She told them, a stern look in her eye. The stern look softened into a smile as she turned around and looked at Desmond. "I sort of figured that would happen but... you handled it much better than I. The first time pokemon fought like that around me, I had Hope, a Dratini at the time, blast them with Dragon Rage. A bit of an overreaction but it... uh... worked." She explained, laughing awkwardly. With everything sorted for now, she walked back to the kitchen and stirred the stew. A few more moments and it would be ready to eat.

Desmond simply watched as April took over, handling the two easily. He became momentarily distracted as Fluff walked over and stood by his side, crossing her small, stubby arms with a strait look on her face. He honestly worried about her sometimes, but was glad she helped him stop the two baby Pokemon from fighting. Though if it was for his sake, or for that treat, he wasn't sure.

Blinking as he was spoken to, Desmond leaned against the counter with an obviously pleased smile on his face. Had he handled it well? He thought it might have been a little much for the two to go through, but they were fine now. His smile shifted into a more nervous one as she commented about how she first handled such a situation. "Heheh... I guess it did." He laughed a little, sharing the awkwardness with April. Though it faded after a moment, and everything seemed to return to normal.

Desmond's eyes glanced in April's direction as she stirred their meal. His smile softened, though quickly changed into a shocked expression as he felt Fluff smack his leg irritably. "What?" He asked, looking down at his partner, only to notice her glaring at him with an expression that made it obvious she wasn't amused. They simply stared at each-other silently for a moment, before Desmond spoke. "Bored, aren't you?"

Fluff nodded in response.

"Why don't you go play with the other baby Pokemon? They're nice." Desmond suggested, and an evil smirk crossed Fluff's face. She turned slowly, and put her hands together as she let out a low growl. This set off ten different alarms in Desmond's head, and he called out, "F-Fluff! No!"

Turning, his Pokemon's face became sad. Sad, and somewhat irritated. Sighing, she trotted back over to Desmond and sat down, crossing her arms. She didn't want to wait until tomorrow to get a little practice in.

"I said we'll battle tomorrow, alright? We're facing a Gym Leader, and we'll need to be at full strength if we want to win." His words caused Fluff to perk up. She was excited about the idea of facing a Gym Leader, as they were tough opponents. Well, at least Grant was tough. Tough enough to beat them. She hoped this would turn out better than her last experience, but knew it wouldn't if she was tired. She nodded at Desmond, seeming satisfied.

"Hah, good. Glad to see you understand." Desmond said with relief, before his attention went back to April. A quick whiff of the kitchen was all he needed to know what she made would be something better than what he'd been living off of. He walked over and peeked at the stew, finding just the sight of it to be majestic. "Wow... It looks great!" He seemed a little too excited about it, but considering how hungry he was, it wasn't too surprising.

The two began pouring the soups into bowls just as April's father arrived. The three ate for a few hours before they broke off for the night to get some sleep. Rick and April went to their respective rooms and Desmond slept on the couch, the baby pokemon staring at him from their pen.

Getting a bit restless, April got up from bed and walked downstairs to check on Desmond. Rather to her amazement, he was already sound asleep and so she left him be. He needed all the sleep he could get before tomorrow's fight. A small smile crossed her face as she walked over to pick up one of the pokemon still awake. The small darumaka was warm and nice to cuddle as she walked over to the recliner with him in her arms. He closed his eyes, and squirmed, clearly a bit happy at the attention. Hope was upstairs sleeping the night away and the beartic who still needed a name was outside sleeping on a pile of leaves.

After an hour or so of rocking the baby pokemon, April went back up to her room and slept for the rest of the night. Morning came quickly as she was woken by the unforgettable smell of Ninetales' breath. Nina was staring her down, panting rather loudly.

"I'm up, I'm up. I'm assuming you've woken everyone else too, huh?" She spoke groggily, patting Nina on the head. With her pat, Nina barked and bounded down the stairs from which the smells of breakfast wafted up.

It didn't take her too long to get dressed and ready and she was down, sitting at the dining table with a bowl of cereal and a piece of bacon on the side. "Good morning!" She called out, smiling at her father who was currently feeding a newborn Riolu.

"... Hm."

Desmond had been silent as he woke up that morning, seemingly in deep thought about the battle ahead. He offered a small greeting to Rick, but that had been about it, as he spent most of his time awake sitting at the table quietly, fiddling with a pen. There were certainly a lot of factors to consider, Desmond knowing he couldn't take a Gym Leader lightly given their skill. He was a little nervous, honestly; Afraid he'd end up losing and embarrassing himself. Though if he didn't try, then he'd never get anywhere. Better a failure than a coward, he figured.

That way of thinking alone was going to make him lose. He knew it, and fended off the thoughts by distracting himself. He had written down a list of supplies he needed to buy, and ended up going down to the last dollar he had. At least if he knew the correct prices. He'd need to earn some more money, but at least his Pokemon would be okay for awhile. That was enough to keep him calm and mildly collected.

Blinking and looking up from the dining table, Desmond offered a small smile as he heard April's voice. "Oh, good morning." He responded, a small dullness in his voice. He was glad to see her awake, but still had plenty on his mind. 'I at least have the element of surprise. Viola doesn't know anything about my Pokemon, so Klauser can take her by surprise. His flying-type attacks ought to be really helpful. But... What if she has a plan to disable him? Sigh. So many possibilities...'

"Uh, sleep well?" He asked, trying to keep a small conversation going as he continued thinking to himself.

April grinned over at Desmond, seeing him deep in thought. She must have been that way too, the first time she went against Viola. Her smile faded as she thought more deeply on that. Should she give back her badge and take on Viola again. She could fight along side Desmond, granted not at the same time. But at least they'd be on the same level. And... she didn't feel like she deserved it right now. After all, who deserved something they don't remember ever getting.

She felt a soft nudge and turned to see Hope staring at her. She put on a smile and chuckled. "I'm fine, silly. Just thinking." She told her, patting her on the head. She turned back to Desmond when he asked her how she slept. "Oh, just fine. I would have slept longer had Nina not woken me."

"She certainly does have a nack for that. Made it ten times easier to keep you on a nice sleep schedule." Rick pipped up from the kitchen, making pancakes for himself and Nina now that he'd fed the other pokemon. "Today's the big day, huh, Desmond? Are you ready?" He asked, looking over at Desmond with a smile on his face. He was confident the boy had what it took to beat Viola but he also knew that Viola wasn't going down without a fight.

"I-I think I'm going to challenge Viola again!" April shouted, her head down.

Rick blinked, looking down at her. "Wh-What? You already have the badge, dear." He replied.

"Yes... But... I'm going to return it and fight her again." She responded, looking up at her father with a determined look in her eye.

Rick looked down at his daughter for a few moments before sighing. "Never say you aren't like your mother. Fine. Do as you please. I wish you luck." He told her. It wasn't that she really needed his blessing she just wanted... she wanted him to know. She swallowed and then turned to look at Desmond. "S-Sorry for interrupting you. Go ahead. Are... Are you ready for Viola today?" She asked, blushing out of embarrassment. She just sort of... blurted it out. She needed to decide and that... well that was her way of making herself decide. She'd go get her badge case after breakfast and head over there with Desmond later. She was at a slight disadvantage with only two pokemon but she knew that at the very least Hope was very strong.

Desmond nodded at April's reply, seeming satisfied with her answer. Desmond had fallen prey to not getting enough sleep before, and knew how terrible the experience could be. Thankfully he'd gotten a good night's sleep, otherwise his chances against Viola would be a lot worse. He glanced towards Rick as the man questioned his readiness for that very encounter. He was going to reply, but as his mouth opened, April shouted about challenging Viola again. His mouth clamped shut and he simply sat there for a moment, and listened to the two of them.

'Huh. Returning a badge for a rematch? What a strange thing to do..' He thought to himself, unsure of why she exactly wanted to do such a thing. It was something he'd never heard of, but he had no real issue with it. If she wanted to fight Viola again, she certainly could. He always kept in mind another battle could mean another learning experience, and giving April had already beat Viola once... Desmond felt she could possibly teach him a thing or two.

"Well... I think I'm as ready as I'm going to get." He replied, his grip on his small shopping list tightening. "We'll give it all we've got, for sure!" He added, attempting to display some confidence. Which he honestly needed more of. Nothing was decided until the battle was over, and until then, giving it 100% was the best way to go. How far would that 100% take him, he wasn't sure. But surely he wouldn't fall flat now, right? It'd be embarrassing, to say the least. His expression was soft as he glanced down at the pokeballs that held his Pokemon.

'I won't lose, not with you three behind me all the way.' He thought, knowing the journey so far had been rough, but had to pick up at some point. Why couldn't that point be now? It was about time he started moving forward, instead of being stuck in place with no badges. Winning this battle meant progression, which, to Desmond, meant a lot.

"I'm interested in seeing this rematch you want to have with Viola. Considering you have defeated her before, you and Hope must be a pretty strong team." He smiled, feeling a little less tense about the battle ahead. "Plus that Beartic... He seems to like you a lot. A big Pokemon like that is nothing to take lightly. You'll be taking him too, right?" Though Desmond thought the big bear was cute, he was a little scared of ever having to battle with it on his opponents' side. That being said, he knew Fluff would enjoy the chance to tackle such a strong Pokemon. He sighed, hoping she wouldn't cause trouble later.
