[IC] The Pack of Vandrow (Always open!)

[Ancient Amen]

"Sure why not." Postremo responded. He started to head into the woods and then he turned to Misty and said, "Oh and try to be sneaky I want to see if they can detect us or not and if they can't then we can see if they are hunting properly." He wanted to see if the other wolves are doing a good job or not. He also felt a bit hungry so he wants to see what's for dinner too.

[Whitewolf]

"Okay, I will be," Misty replied and then followed close behind him, ignoring the slight pain in her stomach from want of food and just kept close to Postremo, knowing that she would have food soon enough with nearly all of the pack off hunting.

[CLIW]

Alkah lay half-awake and chewed on a bleached deer bone that must have been a year old; no meat or flavor was left but it still provided some entertainment. When he realized a large portion of the pack had left, he scrambled to his feet and tucked his tail between his legs. They'd think terribly of me if they came back and found me with no food. The dark wolf scratched some dirt onto the dry bone as a way of warning others off of it so that he could give it away later, on his own accord. With that task done, he slipped out of the clearing alone and decided that the risk of being found by a tiger was worth the chance of scoring some food for the pack and himself.

[GhostWing]

Lila looked to the two younger wolves and sniffed the ground until she caught the scent as well. "You two stay here, I'll investigate," She said, lowering her body closer to the forest floor and began tracking the scent.

[Aristocles]

Klondike nodded, insofar as a wolf could. He kept his eyes and ears on full alert, not wanting a repeat of that tiger incident a few months earlier. He was ill at ease, but then again, he had been that way since last fall had turned to winter. Spring made him no less vigilant.

[Valkyr]

Amber grudgingly sat and agreed to wait for Lila. She wondered curiously about the strange smell. It was unlike anything she had smelled before. It did not resemble any prey she could think of. Not even the tigers smelled like that. It was certainly a disturbing smell. She sat back up impatiently. "Klondike," She said, "I'm going to go sniffing around for some game." She then turned around and started quietly trotting off, keeping her ears and nose keen. She was careful to steer clear of the strange smell.

[Aristocles]

Klondike nodded and wandered off to smell for some game as well. Soon, he found himself sniffing in the same place as Amber. "Oh, hello again. Any luck finding something? I do not know what that smell was, but I don't mind if I never smell it again. Do you think it has anything to do with those... what are they called... humans?"

[Valkyr]

Amber wandered around, her nose to the ground. She picked up what smelled like a rabbit, but the trail seemed old. Soon she bumped into Klondike again. "Just an old rabbit trail," She replied when he asked for what she found. She sat down and let out a little sigh. "To be honest, I'd like to find out what that thing was. I just hope Lila comes back alright."

[Aristocles]

"You think we should have just let her go alone? I mean, she can handle herself, but we are a pack. I'm surprised we let ourselves get split, but there you go" Klondike said.

[Valkyr]

"Maybe you're right," Amber admitted. "But as you said, she can handle herself. I think she'll be able to get away if there's trouble." "Unless," Continued Amber, "You want to go looking for her."

[Aristocles]

"Not yet. She hasn't been gone long. If she isn't back soon, then something might be up" Klondike replied. "Maybe she found something strange, like from the old stories. They say there used to be a lot of humans in the world, but something really bad happened and now there aren't so many" he added.

[CLIW]

A delicious smell wafted to Alkah's nose, which twitched eagerly when it hit him. It was only a mouse, but he figured that even a small morsel could help. He crouched low and followed the tempting, fresh smell, bunched up his muscles when the time was right, and pounced. It turned out he didn't even need to; the prey had been mortally wounded, maybe by some bird of prey, and was dying. He shook it to break the neck and put it out of its misery, then put it down and lifted his snout to the breeze. His packmates were near. Looking forward to showing off the tiny kill and giving it to whoever he decided should have it, he snatched the carcass and marched off to join the other hunters.

[Valkyr]

"Hm," Amber mumbled. She turned and walked in a few circles before lying down. She lowered her head and gave the ground a few more sniffs as if to find a scent she hadn't noticed before. Failing that, she simply rested her head onto her paws and waited. After a moment, she heard someone approaching close by. She lifted her head. "Alkah? What are you doing here?"

[Aristocles]

"Yes, Alkah, weren't you supposed to be... never mind. We could use some help. I see you have made a kill already. Is there more where that came from? The herd could use the meat" Klondike replied.

[CLIW]

He shrugged dismissively, although he was clearly delighted to be recognized for the small start. "It was the only one I found, and I think a hawk dropped it. But I smelled many dens. The problem is getting them out." He tilted his head and thought a moment, then dropped the mouse in front of Klondike's feet.

[Valkyr]

Amber stared at the rat as it fell at Klondike's feet. It wasn't much, but she began to realized how very hungry she was starting to feel. She quickly jumped to her feet. "Where are the dens? We can think of some way to lure them out!" She stopped and silently cursed to herself. She had forgotten about Lila. Amber wouldn't feel good about running off after some rats and leaving Lila behind. "Wait," Amber started, "No... Lila. Probably shouldn't."

[Aristocles]

"A mouse? Really? That's not very..." he paused, not wanting to give offense. "It must have been hard to catch that little one, wasn't it? Thanks."

[CLIW]

He shook his head, his ears falling back slightly. "It was dying when I found it. Dropped by a hawk." He then turned his head to Amber. "If you follow my scent backward, you should be able to catch the dens' scent. I'll look for Lila if you'd like."

[Valkyr]

"Oh, no. That's fine," Amber mumbled. "She's fine. She should be back any moment now." She paused for a while, staring intently at seemingly nothing. She was thinking hard in reality. She wasn't sure if she should go after the rat dens or wait for Lila first. After a while, she made up her mind. It would only take a minute, and it shouldn't be too far away, right? "I'm getting a snack," Amber announced suddenly. She walked past Alkah and started following his scent back to the rat den.

[Aristocles]

Klondike followed Amber, keeping a sharp vigil. He wasn't sure why, but he had felt very protective of her as of late. He didn't think anything of it, though. He just wanted to keep a fellow member of the pack safe. Yeah, that was it.
