"Hoenn or Sinnoh." Liam replied. Sycamore looked at his watch. "Look at zee time. Zee opening ceremony and prelim battles we start soon." Oak suggested Liam and Shiranui should go ahead and get down there.

"Will do," Shiranui acknowledged, "Come on, Yoto." The Aegislash took his place on Shiranui's back and Shiranui donned his backpack over Yoto while Yoto covered the backpack with his shield.

On the way to the gathering, the heroes passed by many kiosks set up by various venders for food and souvenirs. Liam noticed one kiosk was manned by a girl with long magenta hair and a boy with lavender hair of a medium length. They had a Meowth dressed in human clothes with them that was yelling in the human language that they needed more noodles for the customers.
"Shiranui, look over there." liam said discreetly pointing the kiosk out.

"These are the people that attacked the Lumiose Gym," whispered Shiranui, "When we're not battling, we should keep a close eye on them."

"Agreed." Liam replied. Liam then saw in the distance a Pikachu sitting ontop of someone's head. "I bet that's Ash." Liam reported pointing it out.

Shiranui remembered the time he helped rescue Ash's Pikachu from Team Rocket. "No doubt about that," he agreed, "We can step in to help if his Pikachu gets swiped again."

Soon enough, the Prelim battles began. Liam made it though his prelim battles flawlessly.

As did Shiranui, Honoh and Yoto being formidable powerhouses.

Ash was talking with Liam between battles and saw a familiar face. He told Liam his name was Tobias, and that he met them in the Sinnoh League. Ash also explained that according to the rumors at the Sinnoh League Lilly of the Valley Confrence was that Tobias won every gym battle using only one Pokémon, and that during the conference, there was only one battle where he had to use a second Pokémon. So far in this tournament, those rumors persisted. The Prelims came to an end, The prelims was sixteen brackets of trainers, the top two of which moved on. In the first round, each trainer was permitted the use of two Pokemon. Liam had done research on his opponent's prelim battles, as well as his battles in the Sinnoh League tournament Ash mentioned. He found that Ash was that one trainer who made Tobias use his second Pokémon, and it took all six of his Pokemon to accomplish it. Liam had to bring his A game to the first fight.

It was now time for Liam to face Tobias. Liam was wearing his new scarf. Tobias sent out Darkrai.
"Darkrai, the Pitch Black Pokémon. It chases people and Pokémon from its territory by causing them to experience deep, nightmarish slumbers. It can lull people to sleep and make them dream. It is active during nights of the new moon."

Liam pulled out a Master Ball. "Go!" Mew emerged from the ball. The cheering audience became silenced at th sight of not one, but two legendary Pokémon. The commentator talked about how Liam was at a type disadvantage, but especially with legendary Pokémon, that may not mean much.
'Mew! Worry Seed!" Liam order the moment the battle began. Darkroom's ability became Insomnia, and Darkrai used Dark Void. Mew managed to evade it Matrix-style. Liam side stepped to avoid being hit by it himself. It hit the Meowth from Team Rocket that was in the stands selling concessions.
"Skill Swap!" Liam called. Mew took the Insomnia from Darkrai and gave it Synchronize.
"Dark Pulse." Tobias called.
"Aura Sphere!" Liam called. The attacks collided in mid air. Aura Sphere overpowered Dark Pulse and rocketed toward Darkrai. Darkrai was hit in an explosion.
"Torment." Tobias called. Darkrai made Mew unable to use the same move twice in a row. "Dazzling Gleam!" Liam called. Darkroom was hit by the other Super Effective move.
"Shadow Ball." Tobias called.
"Focus Blast!" Liam called. both moves hit the targets. Both Pokémon were showing fatigue.
"Recover." Liam called.
"Disable!" Tobias rebutted. Mew healed its wounds and the move was locked immediately after. Mew was now healthy again and Darkrai was at the end of its rope.
"Metronome!" Liam called. Mew began waving its hands back and forth. The tips of its hands began to glow white. Power up Punch turned into Charge Beam. The move finished Darkrai and upped Mew's Sp Atk.

Tobias now sent out Latias.
"Latias, the Eon Pokémon. Latias is highly intelligent and capable of understanding human speech. It is covered with a glass-like down. The Pokémon enfolds its body with its down and refracts light to alter its appearance. Latias is highly sensitive to the emotions of people. If it senses any hostility, this Pokémon ruffles the feathers all over its body and cries shrilly to intimidate the foe."

"Baton Pass!" Liam called. Energy the acquainted to any and all modifications to Mew's stats was manifested and Mew retreated to its Master Ball. Liam then tossed out another ball and Sylveon emerged, grabbing the baton with one of her ribbons, gaining the modifications.
"Moonblast!" Liam called. The beam of pink light hit Latias was hit. "Steel Wing." Tobias ordered.
"Protect" Sylveon crossed her ribbons in front of her face and a green shield appeared blocking the attack. Tobias ordered Latias to use Psychic. The move hit Sylveon. "Dazzling Gleam!" Liam called. Latias took significant damage from the blow.
"Steel Wing!" Tobias called. This time the move hit Sylveon, dealing a great amount of damage.
"Draining Kiss!" Liam called. Sylveon leapt up and wrapped her ribbons around Latias' neck and sucked energy from the Legendary Pokémon. This made Latias crash into the stadium ground. Sylveon leapt from the dust cloud and back in front of her trainer. Latias got back up, but was worn out.
"Heal Pulse."
"Moon Blast!" Sylveon used her attack quickly and was able to hit Latias on time. Latias was KO'd and Liam won.

Ash bested his opponent using Pikachu, Greninja, and Halucha. Liam beat his using Scarlet the Delphox, Jiriaya the Greninja, and Ohm the Jolteon, Trevor used Meganium, Arcanine, and Pidgeot to beat hit opponent. Tierno used Hitmontop, Ludicolo, and Politoed to win his battle.

"Swellow, Gust!" Liam called. Swellow was hit with the priority attack. Swellow then conjured the mini tornado and hit Hawlucha with it.
"Flying Press." Ash called.
"Air Slash!" Liam replied. Hawlucha knocked Swellow out of the sky. Swellow took to the sky again. She used her attack and Hawlucha crashed to the ground. Hawlucha stood back up.
"Hawlucha, return." Ash said as he recalled the Wrestling Pokémon. "Pikachu, go!"
"Pika!" Pikachu cried as he leapt into the battle.

"Attract!" Liam called. Swellow winked at Pikachu as hearts appeared around Pikachu. Pikachu fell in love.
"Pikachu, Electro Ball!" Ash called. Pikachu was immobilized by love.
"Brave Bird!" Liam called. Swellow was engulfed in fire as she dive bombed into Pikachu. Pikachu took a great deal of damage.
"Thunderbolt!" Ash called. Pikachu was able to get the attack off. Swellow had now taken significant damage.
"Wing Attack!" Liam called. The attack hit Pikachu, and Static activated.
"ELctro Ball Pikachu!" Ash called. The attack succeeded, and Swellow was KO'd. Liam switched her out for Garchomp.

"Garchomp, Earthquake!" Liam called. Garchomp made a tremor in the ground. It was a critical hit and left Pikachu with little health left.

"Sandstorm!" Liam called. Gar chomp began to spin in place to stir up sand.
"Ice Beam!" Ash called. Garchomp evaded the ice move

"Flamethrower!" Liam called. Glalie was hit by the jet of fire.
"Blizzard!" Ash commanded. The attack hit Garchomp, who took significant damage.

"Fire Blast!" Liam called. The powerful fire attack hit its mark, scoring a critical hit and a KO. Ash sent out Greninja.

"Rain Dance!" Ash replied.
The Sand was replaced with a downpour. Greninja got hit with the claw attack.

"Water Shruiken!" Ash called. The priority water attack hit three times. Garchomp was KO'd and replaced by Hitmonchan.

"Mach Punch!" Liam called.
"Hydro Pump!" Ash ordered. Hitmonchan got to hit with his attack first. Greninja was hit square in the face. It then retaliated with a powerful water attack.

"Thunder Punch!" Liam called. The electrified punch hit Greninja, who used Ariel Ace, but missed.
(Rain 4)
"Ice Punch!" Liam called.
"Ariel Ace!" Ash commanded. Both attacks hit, resulting in a double KO. Liam sent out Hydro the Blastoise, and Ash sent Hawlucha.

Liam smirked. "Now Hydro, MEGA EVOLVE!" Ash and Pikachu were shocked by the revelation, neither of them noticed the mega stone Hydro had.
"Aura Sphere!" Liam called. Pikachu took a great deal of damage from the move. Liam explained that Mega Blastoise's ability was Mega Launcher, which gives aura and pulse moves a power boost.
"Thunder!" Ash called. The Powerful attack hit Hydro, almost one showing Hydro.
"Aura Sphere again!" Liam called. The attack hit and KO'd Pikachu, allowing Liam to continue.

Trevor and Tierno both defeated their opponents, leaving one more battle in the top 8.

"Go Politoed!" Tierno sent his Politoed out and Shiranui scanned it.
"Politoed, the Frog Pokémon and an evolved form of Poliwhirl. The curled hair on Politoed's head is proof of its status as a king. It is said that the longer and more curled the hair, the more respect this Pokémon earns from its peers."
"I'll turn this into a duel of kings! Yoto, en garde!" Shiranui's Aegislash drew himself out from Shiranui's back and took his place.

"Yoto, Iron Defense!" Politoed leaped up into the air while Yoto made himself harder. "Now, King's Shield!" Yoto used his shield to block Politoed's attack, weakening the kingly frog's Attack harshly.
"Politoed, Bubble Beam!"
"Yoto, Shock Wave!" Politoed sprayed a salvo of bubbles that pelted Yoto for minor damage. Yoto changed to his Blade Forme and unleashed a ripple of electricity that zapped Politoed for heavy damage.
"Politoed, Surf!"
"Yoto, King's Shield!" The Aegislash changed back to his Shield Forme just before he got inundated by a mini-tsunami from Politoed, not receiving any damage due to the protective move.
"Try again, Politoed, Surf!"
"Yoto, Toxic!" Yoto was inundated again, but only received minor damage. The Aegislash conjured a putrid purple orb in his non-shield cloth and threw it at Politoed. Politoed was badly poisoned.
"Politoed, Scald!"
"Yoto, Shock Wave!" Yoto was blasted with scalding hot water. The Aegislash was not burned to Shiranui's relief. Changing to his Blade Forme again, Yoto launched a ripple of electricity that knocked Politoed out.

"Politoed, return; go Raichu!"
"Yoto, return; Seiryoku, I choose you!" While Tierno switched his Politoed for his Raichu, Yoto settled himself back on Shiranui's back as Shiranui sent his Golurk out.

"Seiryoku, Earthquake!" Raichu used a clump of grass to trip Seiryoku, causing the Golurk to fall over with a mighty crash. Seiryoku was knocked out in one hit. "Seiryoku, return; Numeru, I choose you!" Shiranui switched the fallen Golurk for his Goodra.

"Raichu, Grass Knot!"
"Numeru, Dragon Pulse!" Raichu tried to trip Numeru the same way it did with Seiryoku, but the Goodra's Sap Sipper ability rendered the attack ineffective while boosting her attack. Numeru launched a shock wave of draconic energy at Raichu, blasting it for major damage.
"Raichu, Thunderbolt!"
"Numeru, Outrage!" Raichu zapped Numeru with a bolt of electricity, causing minor damage. Numeru was sent into a berserker rage as she punched Raichu with both of her horns at once. Raichu was on its last legs.
"Raichu, use Volt Tackle and give it all you've got!" Raichu started charging at the rampaging Goodra supercharged with electricity. Numeru copped a shoulder charge that was resisted, but still caused major damage. The recoil knocked Raichu out.

"Raichu, return; go Hitmontop!"
"Numeru, return; Yoto, en garde!" As Tierno switched out his Raichu for his Hitmontop, Shiranui recalled his Goodra and Yoto drew himself out for another battle starting in his Shield Forme.

"Yoto, Aerial Ace!" Hitmontop spun towards Yoto and struck the Aegislash for major damage. Transforming to his Blade Forme, Yoto thrust his blade at Hitmontop, knocking it out with a critical hit.

"Hitmontop, return; go Ludicolo!"
"Yoto, return; Kage, I choose you!" Both trainers switched their Pokémon again. Shiranui sent his Gengar against Tierno's Ludicolo.

"Ludicolo, Knock Off!"
"Kage, Toxic! Mega Ring activate!" Shiranui activated his Mega Ring and Kage was enveloped in an orb. The orb shattered to reveal a Mega Gengar. Kage threw a gob of poison at Ludicolo and Ludicolo was soon badly poisoned from the hit. Ludicolo struck Kage for major damage, but was not able to knock Kage's Gengarite off.
"Ludicolo, return!" Tierno tried to switch out his Ludicolo, but the recall beam fizzled out in the battlefield due to Kage's Shadow Tag ability. "Water Pulse!"
"Kage, Venoshock!" The Mega Gengar doused Ludicolo with a different poison that reacted with the poison on Ludicolo, causing heavy damage. Ludicolo blasted Kage with a pulse of water for some major damage before succumbing to the poison.

"Ludicolo, return; go Blastoise!" Tierno switched to his last Pokémon and Shiranui decided to keep Kage out.

"Blastoise, Zen Headbutt!"
"Kage, Hypnosis!" The Mega Gengar's third eye started glowing with an eerie light, causing Blastoise to fall on its front with a mighty crash and withdraw into its shell. Blastoise did not wake up.
"Blastoise, wake up and use Zen Headbutt!"
"Kage, Hex!" Kage executed a bewitching attack that caused a lot damage due to Blastoise being asleep. Despite the onslaught, Blastoise remained fast asleep.
"Come on, Blastoise, wake up and use Zen Headbutt!"
"Kage, Curse!" The Mega Gengar drove a pin into himself and put a curse on Blastoise. Blastoise woke up and charged at Kage with his head glowing iridescent colours. Kage dodged the attack and Blastoise felt the curse take effect.
"Blastoise, try again!"
"Kage, Destiny Bond!" Kage was prepared to take Blastoise with him should Blastoise's attack knock him out. With its head glowing in iridescent colours, Blastoise charged at Kage, this time delivering a critical hit that dealt the knockout Kage was prepared for. Blastoise felt his health get sapped away as Kage's trap got sprung, also falling over.

Since Shiranui still had three Pokémon left, he moved on to the grand final where he'd have to face Liam again.

Liam and Goodra were happy. They rushed over to congratulate Shiranui on the win. Liam looked up at the jumbo-tron that showed his and Shiranui's pictures along with a countdown timer till their battle, which would start at sunset the next day.

"Thanks, you guys," replied Shiranui, also glancing at the screen, "That should be ample time to prepare our strongest team."

"Yes, it should." Liam said. He had to begin trying to figure out which six Pokémon to use in the final battle. But for now, he decided to go back to the room and sleep.

It didn't take long for Shiranui to think up a party. He settled to sleep, excited for the final match.
