I have a character that would really work for this setting, however, I'm not sure how RPs would turn out (Because I think about the whole plot of the RP before I actually do it. And I'm struggling to find something.)

I'm still quite interested, I'm still 'iffy' on how it would play out. I'll give it a shot. But I'm still pretty 'eh' about laser weapons, because typically as an Assassin, you would use firearms, but since bullets have been almost completely overwritten by lasers (which possibly create something visibly worse than a tracer, and when I say that, I mean in terms of "I can see where it came from.") I'm not sure how I'm going to work it out.

Edit: I'm so stupid. Sorryyy

I'm not sure you're replying to the right thread. There are no lasers here.

EDIT: I suppose you probably meant copper based energy weapons.

There's still a slew of Technomancy options for an assassin, though.

Name: Robert Crowley

Age: 22
Appearance:

Enhancements: His whole body is a metal armor of white steel. Its an alloy mix of Iron, aluminum and titanium.

The armor itself enhances his strength and speed which supplements his swordplay.

The main combative portions of his magic metal is his two swords. He has two that are like ordinary longswords. They are made with Titanium. They move with his will and can increase the power of his strikes. Upon activation however they glow blue and oscillate at a high frequency making them cut through items not unlike a saw.

Caste: Artificer

Bio:

Dominic Crowley was born to a metal worker and long time artificer. He grew up with only his father as his mother had died giving birth to his younger brother when he was 7. The event framed in his mind the perfect picture of human frailty and thus began a near unhealthy obsession with technomancy. Never having any sort of talent as a Magi he delved into the practice of crafting his own body.

By the age of 13 he had already replaced his legs and had begun plans to replace parts of his arms. At 15 he had already shown an impressive amount of talent in a security job and was drafted by the police. They assisted him in helping fund his body transformation so long as he pledged loyalty to the city and for the security of the nation and their way of life.

By 17 he had already climbed higher into the ranks and worked more and more special operations as guards for elite Magi and other important political or economic figures. He had found funding for his arms and much of his armor at this time. His younger brother who was now 10 was showing signs that he too might pursue the craft.

At the age of 19 his father was killed by a gang of thugs and much of his fathers artifacts were stolen. His brother was wounded in the fight but survived. His losses were a few scars and an eye. Once Robert tracked them down however he slaughtered them all. This was looked down upon at his work as the thugs had loose connections to a lower ranking magi. He survived with his life but his position was demoted back down to a base rank officer. Robert closed his father's shop and sold what he could to buy a house for his brother Joseph and himself. This was the day that he began to teach his brother not only how to craft armor and weapons (as his father had only passed on more economic objects such as appliances or cheap limbs).

By the current day and age of 22 he has climbed up the ladder of the police force once again. They have reluctantly given him his rank equivalent of a sergeant yet again. His pay is decent but he harbors a slight disdain for the current dynamic of the city. His brother, who is now 15, is currently in the police training force as well. He doesn't have anywhere near the extensive body replacement but he at least has a full set of armor and his own weapon now crafted.

I have PMed you with some private notes, here's a few other things that everyone else would need to know:

1) Name, and katanas. Sorry, but this isn't a place where you have freedom to mix any cultures you want. I'm pretty flexible as long as you keep it European, but I won't bend beyond that. The name must change, the swords... as you described them as a straighter version, I'll let it slide, provided you don't use the word katana. I know I sound nitpicky like that, but that's where I'm going to stand. Physically describe them, if you must keep them the shape they already are.

2) I think you already understand this, but a few things in your CS make me want to reiterate, not just for you, but for everyone: An Artificer needs a Magus to make any of their devices work. In the case of your character's father, he likely would have been assisted by a series of young student Magi who would leave him when they had worked their way up their social ladder. You mention him never having any talent as a Magi: this is not only a given, but a rule. If you are not related to a Magi, you would never have access to that knowledge. It would never be an option.

As I said, that last part isn't an issue with the CS, just something I want to reiterate often so I don't have someone making a "grows up in poverty but finds a book of magic in an old shop and rises through the ranks" character.

I hope everyone is reading the lore, but I do understand there's quite a lot of it, and it would be easy to skate past a point and make that sort of mistake.

It's alight, I too often work with multiple tabs open.

I'll tell you I wouldn't mind having an assassin character. Though their job would likely be a bit more varied than just killing peeps.

The higher ranking Magi like to have agents to do their less savory bidding. Duncan Allistair has the Automata Corps, but Magi below him operate a little more quietly.

Would it be frowned upon for a Magi to also be interested in Artificer stuff? As in, they would tinker about with mechanics even though they still study as a Magi?

Also, can a Magi do anything else with metal other than just enchanting it?

Names changed to Robert and his brother's name to Joseph. Last name Crowley. Katana changed to longsword. Edited few things in the history but nothing of substance.

Good?

Artificers guard their knowledge(metallurgy, mostly, but also basic engineering and metal working) just as jealously as the Magi. Because otherwise, the Magi wouldn't need them, or anyone else. It's to protect their station. So it's not just frowned upon, it's improbable, or downright impossible.

What other things did you mean?

@Gisk 'Other things' such as (Note this is all restricted to use on metals, as you said before): Telekinesis or Magnetism (some form of movement or kinetic control over metals)

Telekinesis, no. But iron can have "selective magnetism" which can control what it attracts/repels(only metals) and how strongly.

Would it be possible to have different pieces of iron that repel each kind of metal, all in one place (ie. Your hand)?

Also, would mechanical pets exist? (I'd assume that you would use silver to create the Organic movement part of it and then Palladium for 'AI') If so, how difficult would it be to create a simple sentient AI?

It would be enormously difficult to create a sentient AI. That's why the Automata Corps uses volunteers rather than creating robots. It's simpler to just transfer a mind.

As for the creation of the body: it would be more likely to build the body mechanically. The only reason to use silver in that manner would be for aesthetic.

So all of these things depend on how wealthy your characters is. If they were a talented Magi, they could have ordered the building of the pet, and undergone the enchantments themselves. I believe you were going to be a Magi anyway, so this is likely the route you would take.

A quick note about organic silver skin: to do a whole body in silver skin, it would need a conventional mechanical framework underneath(a skeleton, basically). Otherwise it would collapse easily.
