Welcome to the 19th century, where the Afflicted, also known as Vampires, grow in numbers, and mere mortals continue to live their lives in ignorant bliss. An ancient virus that grants eternal youth and life, among other supernatural characteristics, is creeping throughout the streets of London. The price of this virus is requiring fresh human blood for your diet and belonging to a vampire nest, under their jurisdiction. The virus is spread by drinking the blood of a host who is already infected. This action is called: "turning" a victim.

The Afflicted (Vampires)

• Look human but have paler skin
• Heart beats faster
• Low body temperature: 75.5 degrees
• No ageing once turned
• Heightened senses
• Increased physical abilities like supercharged immune system: immunity from illnesses, diseases, infections, other viruses
• Does not heal mental illness (halts it from progressing)
• Increased sensitivity to light (especially to sunlight). The sun presents no real danger, it simply weakens their supernatural abilities.
• Most vampires are Nocturnal. Thrive and hunt at night, sleep during the day
• Enhanced strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, durability, and accelerated healing
• Cannot die from starvation and suffocation
• Can be killed by firearms and weaponry in general (due to hemorrhages, bleeding, physical trauma)
• Fresh (healthy) blood is needed to survive, but one can drink another vampire's blood to heal themselves from severe injuries
• Spiritually connected to people with the same Ancient virus sequence (Elder's blood)
• Can feel if they've lost a family member or if their nest is growing stronger
• Still needs sleep but not as much as a human
• The existence of vampires must be kept a secret from humans, unless the human has been chosen to join a nest (rank: Aspirant, scroll down to CS to know more)

The Abomination (Dhampirs)

• Extremely rare
• Half breed: Conceived through sexual intercourse between vampire and human
• If a vampire has romantic relations with a human, he is executed, along with his lover
• The Dhampir is killed at birth unless a Elder can vouch for the child's redemption
• Physical traits defer depending on if the vampire, or the human, have a more dominate genetic sequence [Ex. Body temp, skin color, teeth]
• Does not age
• Sunlight does not weaken a half breed
• Has to eat meat and drink blood
• Dhampirs can be dangerous because when they starve, they're liable to rip a person open and eat them
• Must get the human average amount of sleep
• Bastards of society, extremely looked down upon
• Cannot reproduce (as far as we know)
• Branded by a symbol on the neck and given a dishonorable last name

The Perishable (Humans)

• Humans should not know of the existence of vampires unless they have been offered a chance to join a nest
• Humans are the majority
• If you are aware of vampires:
  • you're an Aspirant (please look at description where CS is) that lives in a barrack outside the vampire's nest (you have given a blood oath to keep your lips sealed)
  • a vampire hunter
  • a scientist studying the virus
• Aspirants always have someone watching over them and are constantly stalked
• An opposing nest does not know of another nest's Aspirants
• Humans are food or potential assets to a nest

The Overarching Storyline

The House of Draculesti, all those of a brotherhood, are in charge of The Order of the Dragon, the supreme council of the underworld. With Vlad Tepes as head, and four brothers in the line of succession, they uphold the high-born pride of being the purest of all vampires, and carry on their ancestral beliefs, but in their own way, shape, and form. Brotherhood does not mean they are related under the same vampric surname, but that they are united through purity of blood.

The time is nearly here, for Vlad to pass the torch, but rather than immediately give one of his brothers the glory to his throne, they must each showcase their strengths, virtues, and aptitude to lead. Vampires are not a kind race. Hierarchy is everything in this dog eat dog world. You will not be rewarded by doing nothing. The time has come for Nests to do extraordinary things, like maybe resolve the legendary feud between the Third and the Fifth Houses.

The war has begun between vampires. Actions can be shady, just don't get caught. House members need to win their father's favor, by helping him win Dracula's favor. The higher you are in the House, the better off you'll be. However, do not think for a second you cannot be demoted or killed. Anyone can. Even Vlad's brothers.

Note-worthy places

Follow the southern road, through the graveyard, and to the London Hills. That is where Vlad Tepes and his wife reside. The path is extremely narrow on the hill so unfortunately, you must walk. The hike will be long. The hike will be tedious. His castle resembles Romanian architecture similar to his true home in Transylvania. However, please do make sure you’ve made an appointment, or that you’ve received an invitation. Vlad hates surprises.

Vlad’s Estate

Countess Illona Tepes founded Cross Academy as soon as the brothers of the Order of the Dragon began expanding their own Houses, saying, "We cannot have uneducated, savage vampires roaming our streets." If you are a new vampire, regardless of your age, you MUST attend the academy. During the day, the school is open to humans. But once it turns nightfall, the Night class begins. The Night Class meets twice a week: Tuesdays and Thursdays. The school is located in the heart of London, equal distance from each Nest (territory). The fact that vampires attend the Night class is kept secret from the Day class. With a Pass or Fail system, students will not stop attending the Academy until the staff and headmistress Illona deem them fit to pursue a higher purpose.

Cross Academy

Louis Ventrue: “Okay so. You know that ummmmmm…. statue looking thing near the docks, it’s the one with the wings! IGNORE THAT COMPLETELY. That’s not important. I just wanted to say that. Now this is the real deal. You want to look for the statue of Queen Elizabeth, she’s holding some kind of parchment or something… You have to go behind the statue and touch the butt. Then everyone around you will think you’re crazy BUT there is a building behind the statue THAT HAS NO DOOR. It just looks like pure brick! When you touch the statue, a tiny grip on the brick building will appear behind you. You slide it open, go down the stairs, then WALLAH! HOME!”

Ventrue’s Nest

Amaury Grangrel: “Everyone knows all the bureaucrats need some down time after work, so they head on over to the high class tavern down the street: The Phoenix and the Quill. The best damn Tavern this godforsaken place has to offer. Sex. Booze. Drugs. It has it all. Without me, that place would've went down the gutter. Enter, be causal, order a drink. Then ask for lady Freya. She’ll give you a “good time” in the dungeon.”

Grangrel’s Nest

Marc Ravnos: “The most renowned Pharmacy is run by Madame Fortworth, located right next to the clock tower. As you should already know, it’s called St. Catherine's Apothecary for Pharmacy. When you arrive, tell her you are in dire need of water. I believe the simplest things are overlooked, like hiding in plain sight. If she questions you further, clutch your hands together and keep quiet. You will soon enough be led to the backroom and gain access to a secret passage. Our home is similar to that of a library. I like to take precautions. Even if an outsider would penetrate Madame’s Pharmacy, they would not have the slightest clue that our library holds secrets.”

Ravnos’ Nest

Francois Malkavian: “Hallows-by-the-Tower. Go pay your respect to the Virgin Mary and ask for Sanctuary. Whomever is there, will lead you to the Chapel. Our home is hidden in the walls of the Church, may it be upstairs or down. Feel free to visit my bed chambers, perhaps I could give you a reason to ask for forgiveness?”

  Nest Ranks

  Prelate: Will be regarded as protégés of Elder ranks. They have proven exemplary courage, loyalty, and reliability. Will stand role models to all members, especially for lower ranks. They are not quite Coven management, but leaders of the lower ranks, and most assuredly expected to act like it.
  
  Guardian: Strong leadership potential and qualities are seen here. Rank is near to that of Elders, and should expect to start experiencing the pressures and responsibilities of a leadership role. At this point they should be handling the smaller issues that need not be taken to the Elders. This is a developed role that is on a continued path to an Elder role and not to be taken lightly.
  
  Adjutant: This is the rank where you really prove who you are to this family. You already have a general understanding of the Coven as a whole and have determined a path you wish to excel at. The Coven Council have noticed your efforts thus far and now wish to be impressed. You seek out advancement on your own and are diligent in working with the lower ranks. This person also have made a commitment to their personal growth.
  
  Enforcer: By this point these members are mid-level grunts. Their business duties continue but are rallied on into Coven conflicts. First into battle, last out. Primary job begins support of higher ranks, basic battle training of lower ranks. This individual should have a good idea as to their particular specialties, and will be used often to achieve a specific result.
  
  Kyres: This person has shown they can be trusted but are still proving themselves. They may be entrusted with the overseeing of one or two rank ones. They will be charged with minor tasks and missions to move the business of the Coven forward.
  
  Novice: This person is tasked with duties such as deliveries, general business inquires, and labor jobs. During times of battle they are the runner to alert the family. They are encouraged to learn all of the necessary hierarchy and rules of the Coven.
  
  Aspirant: This person, still very much human, is not a member of the Coven but has been designated as one who the Coven is interested in.
