"I was worried too, but if he just acts kind and works with his wife, he'll do well as a father" Larek explained.

---------------

"Oh. We have some blocks, don't we?" Orna replied. "Yes, that might be a good option.'

---------------

"Groveling? Doesn't sound like them. I guess they changed as they grew up" Kos said.

---------------

"I think he's full, Hermy. Should we take him back to his cradle or something?" Veax asked.

Nyx nodded, "I know he will be a good father. He was always a fantastic brother" She said, "Prudence has helped him a lot, I'm glad he found her"

"We do. It will help teach skills too"tran said, leaning over to kiss their child on the head.

Sasha sighed softly, "A lot changed when Railing disappeared. I was hoping it might go back to the way it was when he was brought back, but Iguess there was too much change"

"We can" Hermia said "But maybe we could tire him out a bit first"

(Do you want to skip soon to a meeting with two of the characters? It might be easier to keep things straight that way. How about Orna and one of your female characters?)

"And if his children are anything like him, it'll be a fine family indeed" Larek added.

-------------

"What skills did you have in mind?" Orna asked.

-------------

"Well, it must have been hard on your parents too. Still, they seem like tough folks. Say, do they have any new hatchlings?" Kos inquired.

-------------

"And how do you propose to do that?" Veax wondered.

The cart creaked as it pulled up to the farm, the third this week. The Eastern Famine has not been kind to anyone, it seems. Everyone piled out, Rughoi, and his mother, and many families he'd never met. The sun beat down on the group mercilessly, seeming to grow even hotter as they began to work. Rughoi himself simmered away under it. He let his own anger at his past grudges surface while he worked. He liked anger. It kept him distracted.

Adykon marched out into the fields surrounding his farmhouse. He had been expecting a group of migrant workers to show up at any time, and it appeared that they were now here. He had been left shorthanded ever since his oldest sons left to start homesteads of their own, and it was almost harvest time for the wheat and grapes. While he was normally dressed in either a blue shirt and long pants, he was clad in a sleeveless shirt and shorts today, wielding a pitchfork in his right hand instead of his greatsword.

"Good to see you all here! I am Adykon, the owner of this homestead. I'll work alongside you, as you will work next to some of my sons. Do you have any questions for me? Oh, and if you need to know, yes, I am that Adykon, but I don't like to talk about the Dememoras stuff, so let's just skip those inquires, if you don't mind."

Digging and picking, seeding and chopping. All the monotonous events of the day blurred together, becoming one long hot session of work. Rughoi looked out from under the haze of dust at the other workers. Most of them kobold, like he is, but all regular sized. They, he knew all too well, would work until they drop, then further still, and for what? A scruple of low value coins, and a kind word if the farmers were the kind sort. When this is all mine, he promised himself, hacking away at stalks of wheat with renewed vigor. When this is all mine. Everyone shall bow in equal measure. I will be - no, AM, they just don't realize yet - Emperor of All I See, Prince of the Desert Itself. The thought made him smile despite the heat. Everyone shall bow.

(Sorry for the delay! Had lots of work)

Adykon noticed Rughoi as he worked, finding the size of the kobold to be quite peculiar. The red-skinned dracon was hard at work himself, laboring alongside the laborers. He hoped that it would set a good example for his children, especially all of the sons that he and his wife Aerta had.

"Is something wrong?" he asked the hybrid. "If you need some water or something, you can get some from the well. It's on the other side of the farm" he added, pointing in the direction of the water source.

Rughoi looked up from his work at the source of the voice. Through the light haze of dust, he could see the farmer, who was pointing towards a barrel of water. He then noticed how thoroughly parched his throat was. Lost in fantasy, he must have cut countlesss stalks of grain. Nodding his thanks, he put down his knife and plodded towards the water.

The water was cool, so very cool against his face. Greedily, he lapped up a share of the barrel. He didn't care about the cups placed around it, but neither did most kobolds. It was growing dark now, and most of the traveling farmers had stopped for the day. Looking around, he realized he couldn't find his mother. This was worrying.

Adykon had finished his day's work by the end of the day. He herded the last goat back into its pen, then went to go find the migrant workers. As expected, he found piles of wheat cut and stacked, but wasn't sure where the workers themselves were. He checked the well, knowing that it was a common gathering place. To his surprise, he found Rughoi not far away from it.

"What's wrong, little one? Looking for the others?" Adykon inquired.

Rughoi nodded, afraid to say too much. There seemed nothing wrong with the farmer, mind. However, migrant workers, especially kobolds, did not have a very good standing among most farmers. Especially the last one. Rughoi tried not to think too much about the last farm.

"I'm fine. Just wondering where we sleep for the night." He hoped that his mother was already there.

"Oh. There's a small guest house set up. It isn't much, but it should be roomy enough for kobolds. I can show you where it is" Adykon replied. "Good job today, if I may say it."

Farming. Right. That was what he was doing. Not hacking through hordes of enemies, not passing judgement from his throne. It was becoming harder and harder to remain in the present. Rughoi just nodded silently. They soon came upon the house, and the farmer was right. It wasn't much. For a dracon, it would be absolute squalor. It might shelter a couple families of kobold, but Rughoi doubted he would be sleeping in a bed tonight.

Adykon opened the door. "Is it alright? I apologize if conditions are a bit... sparse. If you need anything, please feel free to tell me."

Rughoi just nodded. The farm master would be leaving this house to their own devices soon. Already, a hasty plan was forming in his head. How many people are here? Two, four, six . . . plenty enough. Hopefully he could find his mother, and if not, speak with some of the more angry-looking people.

Nyx bounced slightly as she waited, holding Castor to her in a grip that wasn't tight, but wouldn't have the hathcling falling out her arms, a pack full of things to keep Castor happy was slung over an arm, and she did have a couple of knives on her person-just in case something happened. She'd protect Castor, with her life if she had to. Having left the egg safetly nestled at home, with the certainity that it wouldn't hatch just yet, she waited for her sisters, quite excited to see them. She had missed her siblings, more then she thought she would. Letters were one thing, but seeing them physically was something else. And she wanted, quite desperately, her children to know their Aunts, Uncles and cousins-no matter how large a circle that would bring.

If there was one thing that Nyx had learned, it was that family was important.

She saw Hermia first, and thrilled to see her, Nyx closed the distance, shifting Castor, she hugged her older sister, smiling.

Adykon watched as Rughoi entered the small house. He didn't know if the kobold's mother was there, or if it made a difference. Kobolds normally weren't attached to individual family members, but something was a bit... off about this one. He seemed to be some kind of hybrid. A half-dracon kobold? Or was it a half-kobold dracon?

--------------

Castor squirmed a bit as his mother moved him around. Even at this young age, he knew better than to fight against his parents. While Nyx was with her sisters and Orna, Larek was out with the males, going to see Kos, Veax, and Tran. Caex was still with Avera and was unfortunately not available to meet them.

Orna got up when she saw Nyx, quickly setting her cup of tea down.

"Nixie! So good to see you! And your boy! Wow, he's getting big already, isn't he?"

Rughoi poked around the house, and soon found what he was looking for. Two fellow kobolds, each standing at a towering 3'4" (as kobolds go), whispering to each other in a far corner.

"Friends," Rughoi started. Both of them turned. "Fear not, I am kobold," he quickly continued before they could grab at the knives in their belts.

"Aye. What do you want," one said.

"I have an idea that requires strong kobolds, which I take you are. If you would listen," Rughoi continued, sitting down next to them. "I have gathered through my travels a company of kobolds, eager for revolution and blood. Our dracon oppressors do not expect retaliation, which is to our advantage. So first, we'll strike at the neighboring farm over there, smaller and less populated, by . . ."

Adykon began the walk home from the guest home where the kobolds were staying. He wasn't quite sure what was up with Rughoi, although he knew that half-breeds and hybrids often had unstable personalities. Still, kobolds were rarely a threat, even if they had some dracon in them. He entered his house and changed out of his shirt and pants and into a loincloth. His wife, Aerta, went out to the kobolds with a tray of bread and some fruit. She was a sorceress, but she wasn't ready for a fight just yet. She knocked on the door.

"Hello? Kobolds? This is Aerta. Can I come in? I've got some things for you."

A weathered, but kindly looking kobold woman answered the door. "Erm, hello, you must be the mistress of the house. Do come in, I hope we aren't too much of a fuss." She gestured to a chair, then looked embarrassed by the fact that it was fitted for kobolds and would fit no dracon. "My apologies, mistress. This house must have been largely furnished by kobold hands. Say, you are in luck. This is the longest time I've ever spent without hearing about some trouble my son has caused. Speaking of which, you haven't seen him, have you? Rather large, answers by Rughoi."

"Go," came Rughoi's curt order. The farm's owner, judging from the windows, has blown out his last candle of the day. Slowly, ten pairs of kobold feet softly advanced across the flat fields. Upon arriving at the door, one gave a sharp knock. A sleepy-looking dracon answered, rubbing his eyes. To his surprise, at his door he found a kobold on another's shoulders, the top one wielding a comically large club. The club came down on the farmer's head, killing him.

"A large male? I think I've seen a kobold like that, talking to Adykon for a bit. That was much earlier today, though. Haven't seen any kobold like that in hours." Aerta set the food down on one of the tables, the tray barely able to fit on the tabletop. She then sat down on the floor, cross-legged. "So, you're a mother of a grown child? Same here? Several children, in fact. Three of my sons are already married off, while the same can be said for two of my daughters."

The farmer's wife screamed as the kobolds attacked. She fled from the house, still traumatized by the death of her husband. As the couple hadn't had children, the kobold assailants now had free run of the otherwise-empty farmstead.

"I'm just glad that Larek, Caex, and Veax were able to settle down. I think that's important. Without a family to care for, young male dracons often get more aggressive and violent. I'm glad that kobolds at least are calmer than that."
