"The Oasis"

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

The figures had remained still for a few more seconds, staring silently at Shouken, who was focused on them as well as the location of Kumo. He had disappeared either right before the two showed up or right after, Shouken was unsure, yet he drew his blade and stood tall and ready to defend himself. The two cloaked ninja gave each a quick glance then one took off into the thick wood. Shouken assumed the ninja set out to find Kumo, so he set his focus to the only one remaining.

"Who the hell are you?" Shouken said, never lowering his gaurd. Not a word came from the ninja, only a slight tilt of the head. Shouken gritted his teeth and lifted his blade directly infront of his face, keeping the figure in his sights.

After a few seconds, the right hand of the shady ninja rose to the center of his chest, forming the tiger seal. It seemed he was about to release a jutsu, but before anything would happen, Kumo would re-enter the scene behind Shouken.

"Spider Style: Widow Maker!" Shouted kumo from behind the unaware Shouken. The boy turned to see the jutsu and gazed upon Kumo stretching his right arm out and forming a ethereal, pistol-shaped, mass in his palm. It emmitted the same dark purple chakra as before which supplied the pistol-shaped outline.

After the pistol took form, it released a black ball of chakra that moved at incredible speeds. It was on the cloaked ninja giving him no time to react and knocking him back at least 30 yards. Shouken watched the man struggle to get up then realized the other one was attacking. He quickly alerted Kumo he paid no attentiont to the threat whatsoever. As the man approached Kumo from his blindside, a spear was driven through the side of the neck of the second ninja and exited out of the opposite hip, pinning his lifeless body to the earth. Kumo looked to the trees and out came a large spider. Though this one was different then the one earlier. He wore a more leather armor and carried two spears, crossed on his back along with many knives lining his upper half. He only possessed two eyes and spoke as clear as the large spiders that Shouken had encountered earlier.

The spider walked passed Kumo and retrieved his spear from the body with his two front legs. With a few twirls and twists, he placed the spear back into its holding. Turning back to Kumo, the spider gave a quick nod. Kumo returned the nod then walked over to the spider, placing his palm on the large symbol on his back, sending him back to the land of webs.

Shouken stood shocked with awe at the confidence and percision of Kumo. It was amazing to watch such a spectacular sight. Summonings had always fascinated him and this event only just added to that. He wanted the same power Kumo had and would stop at nothing to gain it.

Kumo examined the fallen ninja for a second before turning to Shouken. Without speak a word, he walked past and made his way for the ninja he had blasted earlier. Shouken, like a puppy, followed his master and accompanied his examination of the second person.

After further examination, Kumo finally spoke.

"Well, neither one were carrying anything important. All we have to go by are these odd crests on their backs. It appears to the markings of the Vampire Clan..."

Shouken shifted his gaze to Kumo and gave him a confused look, "The Vampire Clan?" He asked.

Kumo enlightened Shouken with a back story on the clan, " The Shimyaku Clan. about 50 years ago, a cult clan formed on the outskirts of the Grass Village. Their leader, Reikyuu Shimyaku, developed a jutsu where the user could abosrb chakra from drinking the blood of their opponent as well as physically draining them and back-washing dangerous poisons into the blood streams. Though it did not stop there, Reikyuu went further with the technique and discovered you could enter the mind of the opponent and drive them insane. Well let's just say, Reikyuu didn't have the best inentions for these techniques and began teaching the clan murderous and immoral methods, leading to the banning of the clan by the Grass. Though they were exiled over a decade ago... And I use exile lightly, the clan was slaughtered after committing atrocities to the people of the Grass."

Shouken nodded and replied, "They sound pretty creepy, I wont lie. But why us?"

Kumo only gave a shrug then returned to a completely standing position.

"No worry though, we will figure that out later. First we will enter the Grass and gather our bearings. We are only right around the corner."

Kumo pointed to the path and through the gaps of trees he had made with his jutsu, the gates of the Grass were visible. Shouken yawned due to the fact that they had been walking nearly all day. As the proceeded on, Shouken's mind flourished with thoughts of becoming a master like Kumo one day and saving his village.

Shouken followed his new mentor out of the village and proceeded toward the Grass. Questions filled Shouken's head and he figured he'd have plenty of time to ask them on the way there. The first one involved Mashin, who was he? and what exactly did he do to end up in the place he's in?

"So this Mashin guy. Why the hell is he imprisoned? And why was he somehow okay with it?" The question lingered for a second as Kumo was troubled as to where to start with the tale.

"Well I guess I'll start from the beginning." He slid his fingers through his greasy hair and blew air acrossed his lips making a motor noise. "Mashin was the original Lord and founder of the Land of Webs. He created the realm by developing a powerful jutsu that allowed him to transverse between dimensions. This technique was only capable of being used once before the user feels completely lifeless if not dead. Doing so, Mashin found himself trapped in the dimension unable to escape. After years of meditation and training, he developed another technique. This one would allow him to create a portal between his dimension and the real world. Mashin's goal was to rule a world of his own and to become a God of his own. He recruited thousands of spiders around the world and brought them to the Land of Webs, promising them eternal peace. He avoided conflict within the real world and remained a neutral land, despit the fact that he was completely unfair to his own kind. After 100 years of cruel treatment, his personal guard sought out to bring him down. Leading this force was Hakeisha, the strongest of the personal guard. After Hakeisha succesfully defeated Mashin, he took the throne and cast Mashin to a prison deep within the lands."

Shouken was dumbfounded upon hearing this, due to the fact that in all his studies, he had never come across a phenomena known as the Land of Webs. Before he could think any more, Kumo continued..

"As for him being okay with it...I guess hundreds of years of thinking made him realize how much of a dick he was being. When I met him, he was completely evil..." Kumos voice eased off as the two continued walking in silence through the woods.

After a few minutes of walking, they stopped at a small crossroads. A sign stood on the corner and listed the Leaf, Sand, Grass and Mist on four different pointers in each direction. The Grass's path was covered in vines and shrubbery while the others were quite clear.

Shouken brewed another question in his head and blurted it out at Kumo who was just beginning down the path.

"How did you meet my father?" Shouken was troubled with the recollection of events in the Leaf. He remembered his father bowing which angered and saddened him at the same time.

Kumo stopped and looked back at the boy. After a second, he returned his gaze to the path and continued with Shouken close behind.

"I was 18 and working for the Grass's Secret Specialist Division. Comparable to the Anbu, however, we were much stronger individually but didnt have quite the numbers of the Anbu, this is irrelevant though. I was doing some work in the Sand and things got dicey real quick. I was outnumbered by about 5:1 by some elitist rogue ninja. They were extremely powerful and should have had no problem dismembering me in the shaded streets. Seeing my defeat, I ran through the tight alleys until I came across Danguu. The ninja were dead on my trail and with no knowledge of who I was or why I was running from the people, Danguu drew his blade..."

Blade?? Pops was a swordsmen?

"...And faced the Ninja in my defense. I had never seen anything like it, you're father weilded a sword like no other. He deflected powerful ninjutsu and held his own against the ninja. I eventually helped out and we overcame the ninja together, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without Danguu. He showed me courage that night and sparked a little bit of reason in my life. After that night, we became best friends."

Shouken's head had sunk but a grin still remained.

So pops was a badass...

Shouken began recalling his past with his father and all the things he taught him as a person and a ninja. Shouken's father was single-handedly the most influential person in his life and for the first time he was disappointed in him. Thinking of him bowing immediately angered him as his hands clamped down on the straps of his small backpack.

Kumo observed the boy's emotion and only fixed his sight on the path, refusing to spark any kind of conversation on the subject.

They walked about a mile in silence before Kumo halted the travelling pair with a forceful swing of the arm into Shouken's chest, stopping him. Shouken didnt react, but gave the old man a grimaced look. Kumo paid no attention to the stare but sniffed the air instead. In one quick motion, Kumo leapt from the ground and vanished from Shouken's sight. Confused as to what was going on, Shouken only stood and waited until he was confronted by 2 nationless ninja. They were dressed in long white robes that appeared to be ceremonial with read markings and lines covering it. Each bore a plain black mask that only revealed the ninja's eyes. Along with their creepy attire, they also were equipped with standard looking katana's.

Grunts...I shouldnt be in too much trouble...But where the fuck is Kumo?......

The cave was freezing, but the air was still thick enough to throw off Shouken's breathing slightly. He readied himself for anything, drawing his blade to a frontal defensive position assuming something was going to attack him, however quite the opposite happened. A loud voice, much louder than Hakeisha's, filled the cave with echoed waves. Shouken cringed at the loud noise, but soon recovered. He opened his eyes to see another massive spider staring him dead in the face. He was so close, Shouken could feel the heat coming from his breathe and was able to see directly into his eyes.

This spider occupied about the same amount of space as Hakeisha but was much lower and what looked like more fluid. If Shouken could relate the image to humanity it would seem as if Hakeisha was a mighty warrior while this spider was more of an assassin type.

"Who might you be?"

The monster's words were soft, however carried much weight, almost forcing Shouken to regain his balance. It was clear the spider had 8 eyes, yet he only held 2 open. They were a bloodshot purple and looked like the eyes of a demon, which Shouken wasn't quite convinced that he wasn't...

"I am Shouken Washi of the Sand, shinobi of the Leaf..." Shouken finally built up the courage to speak and delivered it with a bold tone to not show any weakness. The spider only laughed after his answer and within a matter of seconds all the spider's eyes were open and glaring at Shouken. The beast sniffed at Shouken and delivered a response.

"Kumo sent you here, but why?" The spider's eerie voice along with his knowledge of Kumo sending him, rattled Shouken's mind and drove a small bit of fear into his heart. However, he bit back on his emotion and stood tall.

"I want to save my village.." Shouken had a lot more to say, but this was all to come from his mouth. The spider halted his laughter and raised the right 4 "eyebrows" whilst observing the boy.

"Save your village? There is no saving the Leaf! Your Will of Fire has been extinguished and Shinobi like you dwindle down. All your ranks bow down to Ayame now."

Shouken paused briefly to take in that he knew of the Leaf the day of the attack. Putting the thought on hold, he thought of his trial, but before bringing it up, the spider continued..

"But who am I to dampen your spirit? I love to see destruction in any form, good or evil, it's all the same to me..." The spider cracked another grin as he got even more into Shouken's face. Sniffing once again, the spider spoke, "However, your heart is pure.. This is rare nowadays...It reminds me a lot of Kumo."

The spider then raised his front right leg and tapped Shouken on the center of the chest. All his eyes closed and with a quick flicker, the lit places on the rocky wall were all extinguished and only the purple chakra from the tip of his leg lit up the entire room. Shouken didn't feel any different and was quite confused on when the difficult part of his trial was supposed to come into play.

Upon retracting his leg, the spider widened his eyes back to normal. He let out a calm grin and spoke yet again.

"You will do great things, Shinobi, never lose sight of what's important...I made that mistake and ended up here. Send Kumo my regards..You have passed your trial..."

It all happened so fast and Shouken was unsure of what to say next. The spider gave the boy no time to speak and retreated back to the complete darkness in an instant.

"Release!"

~~

Shouken awoke in a bed, stripped down to nothing but his boxers. He had a massive headache and wasn't quite sure if what had happened was a reality or just in his head. After gathering his bearings, he leaned up to a sitting position on the bed. He noticed a figure dressed in a classic ninja attire with a scroll on his back. It was Kumo, but Shouken could only tell by the greasy black hair he had bushed up.

Kumo was staring out the window, and without turning around, spoke to Shouken.

"So you're finally awake. How was it?"

Shouken rubbed his pounding head and replied to Kumo who was still wasn't facing the boy.

"Quick. Odd. Horrifying." Shouken didn't really know how to describe it. He was still dumbfounded about his trial and had millions of questions. "I spoke to Hakeisha who sent me on a trial of some sorts to meet some other huge ass spider."

Kumo scoffed and turned to Shouken quickly.

"Another huge spider?" It was clear Kumo had heard of him as he had heard of Kumo as well.

Shouken nodded and smiled, "Yeah, he seemed to have known you fairly well."

Kumo turned back to the windown and stared outside silently.

So Hakeisha sent him to Mashin...Lucky he's a quiet kid and didn't piss him off. I wouldn't be having this conversation right now.

"So you met Mashin? Yes, he was my trial as well, however, I didn't best him with words. I was a powerful ninja in my youth and he was still a young and arrogant leader. I traveled there to learn the techniques and he got smart assy with me. While deciding my trial, I lost my nerve and spoke out against him. I 'asked' him to be my trial, and Mashin being the spider he was, accepted. We fought for 3 whole days until I finally beat him with some tricky moves..."

He smiled, thinking back to his adventures, and turned back to Shouken who was already out of bed and getting dressed. Kumo dropped his grin and knew that the boy was on a mission.

"We start our journey now. Ill take you to my hidden training ground in the Grass village and once I feel you're ready, your training will be complete."

Shouken didnt acknowledge Kumo, but soaked in the information. He finished putting on his gear and followed Kumo, who was making his way downstairs and through his shop. The made it too the sandy streets and headed for the closest gate. After walking a little ways, Shouken began thinking hard about his statement.

Save my village? What the hell can 1 person do against a whole village of supporting shinobi.

He began realizing that his goal wasn't difficult, it was impossible...

"So you want to learn my techniques? You think you have what it takes to master these arts? It is extremely rigorous training and might have a few...conditions...". The older man ran his right hand through his greasy black hair while keeping his left in his pocket. He was addressing Shouken who had already explained his story of the Hokage's assassination.

In return, Shouken gave a nod and gave the older man a determined gaze. Kumo revealed a sinister smile and spat out, "Alright then..My shift ends in about an hour. We will start then. Meet behind the shop here. You can reach it from the rooftops."

Shouken nodded once more and proceeded out the door to go waste an hour. Which in his mind was a blessing, seeing how he didn't get a smoke break the whole journey to the Sand. He'd have plenty of time to do his business then nap it off until ready to train.

~~

The ninja awoke to the sound his alarm he had set to ring a few minutes before Kumo's shift ended. He cracked his neck and stretched his muscles before descending into the abandoned back lot of Kumo's store. It was a little space, only about a 30 by 30 meter area.

Shouken dropped in gracefully, taking a knee and dropping one fist to the ground upon reaching it. His head raised as he looked around for Kumo. There was a few near the fencing and a light hanging on the back door that illuminated the whole field. Shouken stood to his feet and checked the time.

9:00 pm...Kumo's never la....

Shouken's train of thought ended as his new trainer made himself visible. Atop a rather large spider, Kumo was sitting criss cross with his hands in contact forming some sort of hand seal. Even though it was one Shouken had not recognised and was curious to find out what this was about.

"Shouken Washi! You will train under I and I alone. No one shall know of what goes on here....Is that understood?!" Kumo's voice was thunderous, causing birds to leave there nest in the fresh night.

Shouken nodded once more while Kumo continued..

"Now that we're clear on that, to complete the first step in your training you must first journey to the Land of Webs and confront Hakeisha. He will then decide whether you have what it takes to be a Sage of the Spiders." Kumo's tone evened out until he was back down a normal voice. His tone was not the problem however...The land of webs? What even is that place? I cant recall it in any of my readings...

Wasting no time, Kumo prepared his technique.

"Spider Gate Summoning!" His voice boomed once more as he leapt off the spider's back. While executing a front-flip, his spider drew a huge scroll and laid it out before Shouken. It's design was that of a web but had a tribal look too it as did most scrolls. While Kumo descended he charged up a purple chakra in his right hand and connected with the center of the web pattern, releasing a black void that was only a few feet infront of Shouken.

After the technique was through, Kumo stood opposed of Shouken with a blank expression.

"You remember that condition I was talking about?"

Shouken nodded.

"Well, here it is. If you fail to meet the Spider Lord's requirements, you will never see this realm again. You will be banished to the Eternal Prison. But fear not, Washi, for I believe you possess the power to do so."

A second passed and Shouken could feel a presence behind him. Before he could swing around fast enough a voice spoke up.

"Don't disappoint me..."

It was a clone of Kumo behind him and With an aggressive shove, he pushed Shouken into the abyss unknowing of where he was going or how he was supposed to convince this Spider Lord. But it needed to be done and that was enough reason for Shouken to succeed. As he fell, thoughts of Konoha and his father ran through his head as he recalled passed events with his friends and lessons from his father. He would not fail...

~~

The young ninja found himself within a completely dark cave. There was a great breeze which lead Shouken to believe he was in the right place. He only stood for a second trying to decide whether to speak or remain silent, but before he could think any further, a great beam of light shot up from the ground and stretched to the ceiling. It illuminated the entire cavern revealing it to be the den of the Spider Lord. Shouken first noticed the webbing design of the marble appearing floor, then shifted his stare to that of the Spider Lord himself, Hakeisha.

The massive spider stood in relevant height to that of Gamabunta or maybe even taller. His back six legs were huddled against his body while his front two sat on the armrest of his golden throne. His pitch black skin was covered by shiny silver armor that plate his legs, torso and back. Hakeisha also had two massive Roman style swords crossed on his back.

There was a long silence which consisted of Shouken only glaring at Hakeisha in awe. Hakeisha muttered out some complaints before addressing Shouken..

"Ahhhh....You are Shouken Washi, correct? Kumo informed me of your arrival." He rose from his sitting position to a standing one to tower over Shouken. The ninja stood his ground, questioning whether it was his bravery or fear... He had never seen a beast so intimidating before...

"I am Hakeisha and I will decide whether or not you will become a Spider Sage or not." Hakeisha turned, almost instantaneously, to face his throne. Shouken was unsure of what was going on and remained silent.

After a few seconds, Shouken noticed the Hakeisha forming chakra in the tips of his legs. It was identical to that of Kumo's purple chakra but was indeed insanely more powerful.

"Now Shouken, you will be trialed in a unique way, for no trial is ever the same...Some are extremely difficult physically while others can mentally destroy your brain. No matter the case, you must show me you have what it takes."

Worry ran over Shouken as he now had second thoughts about the decision he made. He was just an average ninja with an average mind and an average jutsu set. He was considering throwing in the towel but before he could put it to action, Hakeisha opened a portal infront of himself. It appeared exactly like Kumo's however much larger. Shouken knew there was no turning back and proceeded underneath the Spider Lord. As he was walking Hakeisha said one last thing.

"Your trial is to survive..."

Shouken looked up and thought to himself.

Well that tells me a lot...

He reached the portal and looked down into it, getting the same feeling he got when he first looked into Kumo's.

Oh boy...

Shouken fell into the portal to find himself seconds later back in the same cave as before, yet no draft. Few torches lit up the cave and Shouken came to the realization that this was not the same room. This one was enclosed...

Shouken had made his way back too the roof before the big reveal and found himself watching from afar the new leader. Many bowed, however Shouken stood tall and realized the lack of loyalty of the Leaf. His gaze was fixed on Ayame then shifted to that of the crowd, where he found many of his friends and colleagues bowing to their new leader.

A kage is murdered and people just...

He couldn't even describe his emotions towards the situation, he only knew that it infuriated him. Biting back his anger, Shouken soon came to the conclusion that his role as a Hidden Leaf Shinobi had halted. He would not stay another second in this village and swore on it. After coming up with this, his stare had caught sight of his father, who was near the back of the crowd, bowing. His anger had found it's way back and Shouken clenched his fist and gritted his teeth. He knew his father was only trying to survive, but this was too far.

I'll be back Leaf...Father...

He had had enough disappointment and began retreating to the Southern Village Exit. His plan was to return to the sand and hopefully find Kumo. He was the one that first taught Shouken to use his water abilities and was one of Danguu's best friends, despite him not being a ninja. Tales from Suna say he was one of the most powerful ninja of the time in his youth. Shouken would exploit this and become strong enough to get to the bottom of what happened.

Well this doesn't look too good

Shouken stuck to the rooftops as he watched his old friend Saburo attempt to take on Daiki. His water jutsu were useless in this fight. He could attempt to attack with Bachiatari but figured he should wait it out and only resort to that if need be. He knew that the Jonin could handle the given situation, however this did not give him any relief.

Upon drawing his blade, Shouken then witnessed the summoning of the rock cat and lost all focus on the battle. His gaze was locked on the structure, unknowingly of what it's purpose was. With the dropping of it's arm a powerful blast was released, forcing Shouken to retreat a few meters and catch his footing.

Due to the raw power of the summoning, the building in which Shouken was standing on began to give way to the repeatence of the blasts. The foundation crumbled and the building started a slow plummet towards the Earth. With blade still in hand, Shouken leapt to a smaller nearby house rooftop and then descended to the ground only a few meters behind Daiki.

He kept quiet but also kept his blade drawn. In front of the Shinobi was Saburo, a friend Shouken had made a few years back. He couldn't believe he would turn and fight against his own people. He was so innocent when they first met, however, Shouken had not seen this side of Saburo. It disappointed him and would eventually cause him to shout to his friend...

"Saburo! What the hell do you think you're doing?! These people just ripped your village apart and you protect them?!"

He didn't really expect an answer and if he did recieve one then he wasn't planning on it being to lengthy. He knew the sworn oathes the Corp was required to take and knew of Saburo's loyalty and did not think it would crack now..

Shouken observed the acrobatic ninja as she made haste of ruining his plan. The cloaked figure landed in front of Shouken a few meters and drew some kunai and released them with great speed, giving the chunin no time to react. Knowing his lack of time, Shouken shield his eyes and most of his face as he saw the tags light up.

Shit...

With a great explosion, the ninja flew back several feet and eventually fell through the roof that gave way. He landed inside the middle of the living room of a random household. They were packed on one couch, the father and mother along with two kids. Shouken rose to his feet, brushed off his pants and gave his smile and chuckle, leaping back to the top of the roof in hopes of tracking down the cloaked figure.

After hopping a few roofs, he heard the noise of what sounded like thunder crackling within the city. The direction of the clash was easily located due to the somewhat loud noise and Shouken wasn't too far away.

Upon reaching the Kage, Shouken had paused on a rooftop just only a hundred feet away and not too tall. He took his chance and brought his hands together. The cloaked figure had not heard him yet but he knew it wouldn't take too long. Channeling his chakra, he began performing his hand seals. He was going to try his new technique for the first time in combat. He had almost perfected it with practice and was eager to try it.

His body was aching, however, and he wasn't sure if he could even escape if the need be...Not like he would anyways, just the thought of it worried him slightly. He casts his thoughts aside, yet again and performed his jutsu.

"Water Technique: Twin Wolf Collision!"

His jutsu erupted from his mouth and zoomed towards the robed foe. The watery wolves took off in different directions, pursuing their target. It was a matter of seconds before they clashed to meet again.

Shouken had awoken as the Hokage's speech began, now sitting up. He was sort of excited for the speech, hoping the kage would maybe announce a tournament or a big mission. However, these thoughts were cut short due to Zeno's abruption in the speech. He stood too his feet, glaring at the seemingly dying kage and was dumbfounded on how to react.

Shortly afterwards, Shouken noticed a cloaked figure above the Hokage's roof. By her thin shape and tiny hands, the boy decided that it was a she...And she had an ANBU operative by the throat. Shouken's eyes widened and his right hand instinctively gripped the hilt of Bachiatari, his new katana, knowing he would be no match for this cloaked women, but instead doing anything he could to buy the Hokage more time.

He glanced and caught Zeno jogging at a slow pace through the alleys. Shouken decided to provide overwatch just in case anyone tried to attack him. Shouken was excited at the fact that he now had an oppurtunity to lay down his life for his Kage. And if he survived, oh, the stories they would tell. He saw this as a win/win situation giving him a solid attitude and determination.

Keeping his hand on the blade, Shouken began leaping from roof to roof in pursuit of the Kage's trail. He was passed by several ANBU pursuing the cloaked figure.

This chick's no joke...

He thought to himself while gazing at the dozens she was ripping through.

This did not phase Shouken, as he ensued Zeno. He would quickly approach the wounded kage and protect him from the rooftops to try and see oncoming attackers.

Hopefully the others will aide me...This is not looking too good...
