After getting in the room Sam realized the volunteers were waiting around for him to choose his elective, Vyvyan was doing music, and since Sam had basically zero musical capabilities he supposed their one elective would be apart from each other. Vyvyan was asking Sam to guess his ability, which could be fun, "ya, sure, just gimme a sec to pick my elective." Sam employed a simple trick his dad had taught him a long time ago, he pulled out a coin from his pocket, designated heads for cooking and tails for horticulture, and flipped it. The trick wasn't to just give up the choice, his dad told him when you flip the coin, you suddenly realize which side you hope it lands on and that's what you really want. As the coin was in the air, Sam realized he wanted it to land on heads. With his mind cleared he marked down his choice of cooking, thanks the volunteers for their help and they left.
Sam looked at what Vyvyan was doing before starting to unpack his things. "Just so you know, I'm a terrible guesser when it comes to these things, so I hope your hints are good." He chuckled as he pulled out something wrapped in lots of bubble wrap. He unwrapped the item to reveal a small glass dragon statue. It was something his dad had got for him when he was about seven years old. For some reason Sam decided to bring it to school this year, he wasn't entirely sure why, he just felt like he should. "Anyways, I'll take a shot in the dark about your ability, it is.....clairvoyance?" Sam really had no clue, and there were so many abilities that he was almost certainly wrong. Not like magic, you always had a one in twelve chance to guess someones magic type.
Sam sighed quietly when Vyvyan either didn't notice or didn't care that he nearly asked about sleep walking. "I'm totally okay with music, I can't really play any instruments. I know a couple of things on piano, but that's because I just memorized which keys to hit." Sam was starting to feel more comfortable with the boy already, just the first few sentences were the awkward ones.
Hearing one of the volunteers say Monster Hunting was mandatory kind of disappointed Sam, that wasn't one of the classes he was keen on taking. When he saw Vyvyan was his partner he was glad because he doubted Vyvyan would be taking Monster Hunting so that'd leave him free to take the two electives he really wanted to be taking.
Before he could tell Vyvyan which electives he was considering they got to an elevator and one of the older students used a key card or something to open it. "Oh ya, dorms are on the second floor," Sam said as they all got in and went up a floor. The elevator was pretty spacious, which he supposed was expected since students with wheelchairs would be the ones using it. "Anyways, I'm torn between Cooking and Horticulture for my other elective, and since you're not taking either of those it doesn't help my decision." He chuckled slightly as they got to their dorm, room 222, "easy enough to remember at least," Sam opened the door then stood aside to allow Vyvyan and the people bringing their luggage inside. This was the real start of his second year at St. Fortuna's, he had his room, he had his partner, and he had the drive to do great things.
Samuel was so busy looking out on the crowd for his partner to come up he didn't notice the ramp being set up and Vyvyan rolling on the the stage. He recognized the boy, and immediately felt slightly guilty that the only thing he remembered was that Vyvyan was the one in a wheelchair. That and you could probably mistake him for a girl if you weren't looking too close. What did relieve Sam though was that Vyvyan seemed about as nervous as he was, but of course Sam refused to show it.
"Ya, Vyvyan, good morning to you too," clearly they were both awkward individuals, and Vyvyan seemed to want off this stage as soon as possible. "Ya, let's do this," Sam extended his hand and placed on top of Vyvyan's, and then the druids started the ceremony. One of the many things Sam had read about in his extensive free time (though some would call it voluntary isolation) was how this ceremony went, though it went a lot fast than he expected. The next thing he knew there was now a symbol on the back of his hand and they were being beckoned off stage by a couple of volunteers who would lead them to their new room and offered to help with luggage. "Thank you, um, be careful with my smaller bag, it has some fragile items."
Soon enough they were off, now he and Vyvyan could actually introduce themselves. "So, Vyvyan, nice to meet you, I guess we're partners now huh?" Sam was still feeling awkward, and he was currently running a loop in his head of Don't mention the chair, don't mention the chair, so he was hoping they got comfortable with each other soon. "Anything I should know about you since we'll be sharing a room? Do you snore? Sleep wa....talking?" Fuck!
Sam was off to the side in the Sun Room, he didn't really enjoy being around such a large group, being caught in the middle of it was the last thing he wanted. So instead he kept himself isolated and admired the room while half listening for his name to be called. The Headmaster's speech was fine, Sam had let out a few polite chuckles. The Sun Room was much more interesting than the speech though. Sam wasn't easily impressed, he didn't care enough about anything to be really impressed, but the Sun Room made him feel something. It was a feeling he couldn't really explain, but it was definitely a good feeling. He wished he could spend all him time in here, unfortunately the Sun Room was only opened for special events, but Sam did make it a point to pass by whenever he had a chance.
As more groups were called up Samuel started to get a bad feeling in his gut. He felt this before, nervousness, anxiety, but why was he feeling it now? Usually this feeling was reserved for when he knew he didn't do an assignment and would have to come up with an excuse. There wasn't a reason for him to feel like this now, he had done nothing wrong. He looked the same as he had a moment ago to anyone looking but his mind was racing with terrible thoughts. What if he had done something wrong but forgot about it and was about to be kicked out? What if his partner hated him and they couldn't get along? What if he was really awkward in front of everyone? That last one was most likely and terrified him most because of it. He didn't have any more time to dwell on it though because suddenly he heard, "...and Samuel Deniel!"
Sam pushed his anxieties out of his mind and walked his way up to the front of the room. He thanked the gods he didn't fall on his face in front of everyone. He was up there before his partner was, and wondered idly who it would be. He wasn't very social, but he could usually put a name to a face, at least for the students in his year. If only he was paying attention instead of thinking of stupid things that would probably never happen he would know who his partner was. But that was in the past, and he didn't hear so there was nothing he could do. He was sure his partner would be there any second now, so he wouldn't be left wondering much longer.
@Invader Len maybe do a friendly mention for everyone who hasn't gone up yet, just to make sure people see :) I'll get something up soon if there's still a free podium when I get home tonight
@Invader Len Awesome :D funny thing about getting wind magic, a name I use for characters sometimes is Zephyr, so it would have been pretty funny if I used that here and got wind magic. But here I am Samuel and I shall make a post as soon as my time comes. I'll be hanging around until then
Stands at 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds Age: 15 Gender: Male Orientation: Heterosexual Mage or Familiar: Mage Magic Type: Wind Known Spells: Summon Partner: Ruby Doer
Personality: What am I like? Well, I'm pretty laid back, sometimes too much so for my own good. I end up being lethargic about things, not caring about anything at all. I feel like the last time I really, truly cared about anything was when my dad died, I cared about that a lot. But since then I feel like I've built an emotional wall and just fake whatever emotions I think I'm supposed to be feeling. It drives me crazy because sometimes I feel like I should be sad or happy, but there's just nothing, and I can't change it. Sometimes I still feel things how normal people should, the good emotions are a lot easier to let through. I feel happy more often than not, but the only times I feel well and truly sad is when I'm alone, up late at night, thinking of things that make me sad, like my dad being gone. As a child I was much more open with my emotions, but after my dad died I just shut down. I think part of it is I'm scared of what life would be like without this wall I've made. I don't care about things because if I care I can get hurt, and angry. And if I get angry I'm scared I could really hurt someone, so I tell myself I'm not allowed to get angry, and it gets bottled away somewhere. I don't feel like I have a rage problem, but maybe I do. Maybe if I open up I would just be a monster, it's things like that which make me how I am. So instead I just take a deep breath, let myself feel happy, and hide away the part of myself which scares me half to death.
Biography: What's my story? Oh, um, well I'm from Colbar, born and raised as you can probably tell from the accent. My dad is from here, mom is from Erridún, she was out of there as soon as she could, didn't feel safe. She works from home for some tech firm in Maefeld, makes pretty decent money, we have one of the nicer cottages here. Dad came from basically nothing, and in his youth could barely make ends meet. He worked hard and founded his own fishing company, it meant he was away from home a lot, but he made sure we had a good life. I wasn't very social as a kid, I'm not really that social now either but that's beside the point. I spent most of my time reading books and watching movies. My dad's fishing business lead me to learning things about the ocean, and watching movies about people exploring the deepest parts of it. When my dad came home I told him I wanted to go fishing with him and go to the bottom of the ocean. He laughed and said I could go fishing when I was older (I was about 7 at this point) and to go to the bottom of the ocean I'd need a job with some serious education behind it. He told me if I worked hard and got good grades I might even be able to go to St. Fortuna's, the pest magic school in the land. That was the kick I needed to really throw myself in to my schooling to try and get my marks high enough to go to St. Fortuna's, if it meant I could explore the ocean like in the books I read then I would do it. Unfortunately everything wasn't all happy, I'm told when I was almost 10 years old my dad was out on an excursion when the weather got rougher than he anticipated. He and his crew never came back, presumed dead. I don't remember much of that time, my brain must block it out to keep me sane. My mom tells me I locked myself in my room, refusing to come out, saying that dad promised he'd take me out fishing on my 10 birthday. Eventually I came out, I slept in my mom's bed for a few weeks after it happened. We skipped celebrating my birthday that year at my insistence, I didn't wanna do it if I couldn't go out with dad. To this day I don't like going on boats, reminds me of the ride I'll never get. The worst part is that they never found the bodies or the ship, sometimes I hear a noise and look towards the door, just hoping he'll walk through. I know it's dumb, but even though there was a funeral I feel like I never got my closure. I don't mention it to people, if anyone ever asks about my family I pretend he's still around. It's still Deniel Fishing Co. so his name will live on there. But every dark cloud has a silver lining, and in this case it's his life insurance. We got enough money to pay for my schooling at St. Fortuna's, which was somewhat fortunate because my grades tanked for a year after he was gone. Eventually I got back to my normal life, I adjusted to him not being around, other than the whole thinking he might walk in at any moment thing. But life goes on and a few years after his death I started attending St. Fortuna's, to get closer to my own goals and also to make my dad proud. He was always so happy when he saw me doing my school work, he wanted me to have a better life than he did and I'm going to make sure I make the most of what he left behind for me.

Quiz Answers:
Gonna be answering the questions as if someone asked my character, hope that's alright.
1. What is your character's dream career? I want to explore the world, see things no one else has seen. Is "Explorer" still a valid career option? I wanna do whatever is closest to that.
2. Your character is caught telling a lie/cheating. How do they react? I would never cheat, I might lie but it would never be over something that's a big deal, so I'd just shrug it off and say sorry.
3. Your character finds out someone close to them has been lying to them. How do they react? That depends on what exactly they were lying about, but I forgive pretty easily so if it wasn't something that was a huge deal I'd say it was water under the bridge and move on.
4. If your character were given $50, what would they do with it? Spend it on food or video games, no doubt about it.
5. Someone close to your character gives them something very important and asks them to hold on to it until they come back. However, your character somehow loses it. What do they do? If it's a physical object I can buy I would buy another one. If it was something more personal I would search as much as I could but if I couldn't find it I'd own up to this person when they came back. But I wouldn't be likely to lose this object in the first place, I don't go out much so it'd probably be in my room somewhere.
6. Your character is given the chance to perfect any one talent. What do they choose? I'd want to perfect being able to play an instrument. Probably the piano, they just sound so nice.
7. What is your character’s favourite book or movie genre? Why? You'll probably call me a nerd, which I am, but I really like nature documentaries. Especially ones about the ocean.
8. Who does your character admire/look up to? I don't have anyone in particular, but someone who does what they want and doesn't take shit from those who don't approve is someone I want to be like in the future. My dad was like that, it's probably why I admire that type of person.
@Invader Len Okay, so I pretty much revamped my character. New height and weight, totally new bio and personality, and I changed the wording on the dislike. I wrote out the bio and personality in first person, it just helped me get out how I wanted to say what his life is like. I promise if I get accepted I will be RPing in 3rd person like any civilized person does.
Also just a side note, had all 3 GM's really never heard the expression "you think your shit doesn't stink?" I thought it was common, it just means someone who thinks they're all that. Like they're so much better than everyone else you would assume they think they're shit smells like flowers and not...shit. Anyways, that's changed to "people who think they're better than everyone" so it's all good.
@Invader Len I'm gonna chalk most of my CS problems up to me wanting to rush the sheet to get it up today. Usually I'd take a lot longer. I'm not home right now so I can't fix it now, I'll work on it over the weekend
