@ErmineThis and a combination of the thing I'm going to adopt about Riley's people believing in asexual reproduction as a cycle of reincarnation, with sexual reproduction being the ultimate union of life, makes me believe that perhaps Riley's perception of death may be somewhat skewed. The 'they died so young' sympathy would still be there, since if a member of her species died before their reincarnation then their cycle would
end, but I think she'd probably take this kind of thing differently than other humans. I mean, her species isn't inevitably fated to die! I'm just unsure if she'd react callously or overly sympathetically... Time to enter the contemplation chamber...
