I'm sure we'll make camp at some point after we search the ruins. Then we can all sit around a fire and talk. :)
Lander had remained quiet the entire morning. After having a small breakfast, he readied his satchel with some extra supplies, mostly fresh Ravencrest which he knew he would not find in the higher elevations of the mountains. The small, sweet-smelling plant grew late into the early winter and acted as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments. Even though he knew they had healers in their group, he still didn't trust anyone completely and if he were to find himself alone and suffering from ice fever, he would be prepared. He did accept a potion from a human woman named Emilia, but only after watching as others drink it first.

"Thank you," he said, slightly bowing his head to Emilia.

They traveled for a while before reaching the foothills of the mountains when they came upon some old ruins and Lander knew something was off. The birds were acting strangely, alerting Lander to an unnatural presence. His suspicions were confirmed when a arrow sliced through the air, banging off of Aldred's armor.

"Get behind something! Keep moving towards the entrance!" Aldred yelled.

Everyone darted for cover behind rocks and tree stumps. Lander rolled into a stone and he winced as his shoulder took the brunt of the hit. He could still hear the arrows flying through the air and he saw the rest of the company ahead of him. He couldn't pinpoint where the source of the arrows was, but he thought it might be multiple archers.

Lander placed both his hands in the snow and closed his eyes. Surrounding his hands the snow melted from the ground and immediately refroze into a thick sheet of glass. He removed one of his hands before the thick circle of ice hardened. Standing up he heaved the giant slab in front of him and crouched down. The thick disc covered his entire body and he began to make his way toward the front where Aldred was. Arrows stuck into the ice, but could not penetrate it. Eventually he made it to where Aldred was taking cover.

"What now?" he asked, arrows still flying above their heads.
Ack! I will post soon! Was working all day yesterday and it was my girlfriends birthday.
I put Lander to bed. :)
“Small fracture is my guess, Don't fret I'll have you pristine in no time.”

She placed her hands gently onto his leg and closed her eyes. Instantly, Lander felt a rush of warmth surging through his leg. He'd felt restorative magic before, but hers was different. He felt peace, as if everything was right with the world, if only for the moment. Then, the pain was gone.

“See was that so bad? You don't have to tough it out. That's the best thing about having a Restoration Mage in your company, you don't have to deal with the pain.”

He flexed his leg and smiled.

“Thank you,” he said. “You certainly have a gift and I believe I'll sleep a little better tonight knowing you're in our company.” Lander knew he would get to know the others in the company, but he was relieved that at least one of them was such a pure spirit. He stood up and walked with her into the tavern.

Then Lander realized he hadn't even told her or the others his name. He was too busy being suspicious and angry that it had completely slipped his mind. As if reading his thoughts, Bregil broke the silence.

”You never told us your name.”

“Ah, yes,” he said, slightly embarrassed. After all, he had just fought side-by-side with this woman and she didn't even know his name. “My name is Lander Mallory, at your service.” He bowed to her in a lighthearted manner.

Lander heard Aldred announce that they would be departing in the morning and would find out what drove the giants so far south. Under normal circumstances, he would prefer to go alone, but without knowing what was going on up there, he was thankful that they would have such numbers and such skill. Whoever chose this group, Lander thought they knew what they were doing. He was still uneasy about them knowing his true identity, but there was nothing he could do about that tonight.

Lander nodded to Bregil. “Until the morning,” he said before turning his attention to the rest of the group. “Good night everyone.”

He found the second floor was intact for the most part and his room was basic with a small bed, a table and a bowl with fresh water in it. Lander dropped his satchel next to the bed and sat down. Out the window he could almost see the mountains far off in the distance. He wondered what they would find there, but sheer exhaustion brought him a quick and welcomed sleep.

so... stuff happened and apparently it's my fault. Sorry guys. Please let me know of any changes you'd like me to make.

No, it's cool, it wasn't your fault we just got thrown for a loop! No worries! :-) You don't need to change anything.
All I was saying is to give a heads up if an NPC is going to have their story and character completely changed without notice. There's no need for any argument. We understand the bartender is dead and some people didn't realize because the character that died didn't seem like the character up to this point so the oversight is completely reasonable. Having a neutral NPC that we can use to have more in-depth conversations is a good thing to have. I've been in multiple RP's that had a 'community-use' NPC and anyone could control them.

I feel that sympathy isn't really required. The bartender, by numerous accounts, was a dick. That doesn't mean he wasn't cared about by someone, somewhere. The bartender could possibly have been a nice guy once you got to know him but based on first impressions, he just doesn't want shit happening in his tavern due to a good business sense. No free room for the bard. No animals inside the tavern. Makes sense. NPCs can give off multiple impressions to different people, because that's just like real people meeting. It really boils down to how your character would feel. Aldred is a good example of the 'good guy' who despite briefly knowing the bartender to be a dick, is willing to look past that for the sake of Emilia. That makes sense because that's how I feel Heat wants his character to be. But your character can do whatever they want. You can talk ill of him if you want and feel like that's what your character would do.

Oh it's not Lander that feels that way, it's me, because the un-named bartender was a dick, didn't have a sister and cheated on his wife and has multiple children he doesn't take care of. That's who he is. How do I know that? Because he wasn't a character till he was made one and we all wrote him any way we way we wanted. The smart thing to do would have been to make a new character to introduce or let us know that someone was changing a pre-existing character.

Good guys are boring as hell, as they are not like regular people. Everyone has their faults. Even you.

He was only a dick to Lucio because bards sometimes try to get a free room out of a performance. Which Lucio very rarely ever does.

No, he was a dick to Wildflower as well and her wolf. It's no big deal but Wildflower is right, we need better warning if an existing NPC is going to changed into a character owned by somebody else. It was jarring that I had to feel sympathy for the douchebag bartender out of nowhere. lol No big though, long way to go in this adventure. :)
I saw that but figured they had a backup bartender. lol :
