The Mermaid's Father

Roland was sweeping the steps in front of his bar, the sidewalk was quiet and though it was early in the morning it was already hot. He was sweating while he stood in the shade. His eyes gently drifted upwards to the floating platform miles above.
"Fucking Gate." He cursed as he lit a cigarette and exhaled slowly as he looked up at it. He hated that thing; he fought against it. Lost an eye for them to put it up there. Now look around; the planet's dyin, the rich live in luxery, and old soldiers like him were left to die in the dirt. Forgotten and left behind.

He smoked his cigarette and listened to the city around him.
It had been five years since Meredith had passed, and in these times he truly became lonesome. He pushed those feelings aside, and perked his ears up.
He heard it alright.
R-at. Ra-a-a-atatatatata.
Ratatatata ratatatatat

Machine-Gun fire.

"Motherfucker." He said as he turned to run inside. He cleared the floor of the bar in a few quick strides. He ducked behind the counter and retrieved his rifle.
It was a standard issue Magitch rifle, it fired concentrated burst of magic energy from specially made cartiridges. It packed a hell of a punch in a tight spot, these kids and their Machine pistols and gunpowder were nothing in comparison.
"Let them come." He said as he hunkered down behind the bar, the bottles of liquor vibrating above him.

Roland heard something else just then; he thought he heard a motorcycle.
"Nobody rides those anymore..." He thought as he looked over the edge of the bar top.

He waved his daughter away from the windows and called to her.
"Nora! Get her ass 'way from them windows!"

"Whats happening!?" She called out, her pointed ears perked as she went quickly to her fathers side as he ducked behind the bar.

"I don't know, but if I'm right; Kazen has stolen something from those damned pinheads." He said as he loaded his rifle.
"He's been gone for a while. Too long, his radio has been silent as well. I don't like it, and now I den smell the battle coming." He said as he took a drag from his cigarette and narrowed his eyes. The rumble of the motorbike grew louder, so did the sound of the gunfire. They would be on them soon.

Aurora cracked her knuckles and began to stretch as they hid behind the counter.
"Can I fight this time, papa?" She asked with exuberance as she tensed her muscles. Despite her skills, he was over protective of her. She could hand her own; mist of today's weaker bullets wouldn't harm her. But he insisted that she hold back. He didn't want anyone to learn of her gifts; let alone Heaven's gate.

A motorcycle ripped it's way through the streets of Neo-Raslan. In it's wake was a squadron of HG soldiers. The soldiers were rumbling along after the motorcycle on a military transport tank. The tank itself rolled on heavy wheels, but was surprisingly fast. Thankfully for the man on the bike; he was farm more nimble.

The young man on the motorcycle was armed to the teeth, automatic and semi-automatic weapons, a large sword with magi-tech enhancements, and a myst-gun. He could easily make wetwork of these men, but he had a bigger agenda.
He wore a black tactical suit that protected him from magical assault, and foreign techno-mancer manipulation. The riders left arm was mechanical in nature, a high-end prosthetic that was surgically grafted to his body. His hair was Long and unkempt, greying at the temples.
"Come on, come and get me." He muttered behind his helmet as he accelerated and cut a sharp left turn down an alley.

The soldiers fired shots at him as he went.
They missed.
He revved his motorbike and turned right as he exited the alley. His rendezvous point was coming up. He needed to lose these guys.

Description:
Kazen stands roughly five foot six inches tall, he is nimble and quite strong for his smaller size. His time working for Heaven's Gate has left him cold, calculated and reserved. He has lived his life on the battlefield, and he has no intention of leaving it. His left arm is entirely mechanical, having lost his original arm during the war. Heaven's Gate simply 'upgraded' him against his will. They outfitted his prosthetic with a charging system for Magitech runes, and an interface for any and all Tachnology. The arm itself is connected to his nervous system and as he uses it the magi-tech feeds off of his life energy. This parasitic symbiosis is no different than a Spellbinders use of their own magic, however Kazen is inflicted with much more physical strain while using his spells.

Basic abilities:
Elemental mastery- use of all four elemental magics.
Fire
Ice
Lightning
Earth
Swordplay - Master Swordsman
Gunplay - Intermediary level
Tactics and Strategy - Genius Level

Special abilities;
Magitech Bloodlust - Once he has sustained enough mana burn from using his Magitech enhancements, or charging his arm with energy he can enter a proto-charge state. This form grants him enhanced strength and speed at the cost of defense and a consistently depleting life energy level. His skills are enhanced and he goes into a berserk rage; but at the risk of his own life.

Quite some time has passed within the realm of Raslan. Numerous entities have risen and fallen over the years, each one possessing a unique flux of influence over the world.
In recent years a technological revolution has begun and in the wake of magic users and old rituals, a new force has awakened.
The time of the techno-mage and their unique abilities has come.

Though there is resistance to this change, steps have been taken by the Elders to ensure things remain in balance.

There are four main factions within this realm;

The Techno-mancers: A race of humans with a natural affinity for technology. They speak their own unique language and are social pariahs in regards to normal social interaction. They are distinguished by their numerous tattoos, welding goggles, and pale skin and hair colors.

The Spell-binders: Arcane students that devote their lives and very souls to the mystic arts. In exchange for their mystic gifts, the Spellbinders very spirit is bound to the planet. This bond allows the binder to manipulate energy into useful forms and various spells. In exchange for these gifts, the planet absorbs their energy and transforms their corpse into a focus of magic power. In many cases: pupils carry their former master's in crystalline form as their focus.

The Monarch Military: Born into servitude, trained and built for combat. Death is almost guaranteed to be on the battlefield. These men and women are fierce, dedicated, and loyal without fault. They are the militant arm of the Heaven's Gate Heirarchy. They are utilized to snuff out resistance and development of the HGH. Genetically modified, magically enhanced, and incredibly deadly, the elite members of this unit are reserved for special operations and assassinations.

Heaven's Gate: An order of supreme dictation and control. This organization is behind every system within Neo-Raslan. They control the people, the economy, and the resources there-in. The highest leadership within this organization has held it's power through manipulative means.

There are numerous challenges to overcome, especially for those attempting to circumvent Heaven's Gate and their control over the world. This is the story of that struggle.

Kazen nodded in agreement as they formed the framework of their plan. He though about what their chances of finding Vanitas were and it bothered him that he couldn't sense his foe as easily as he himself could be found.
"Merlin, this 'Crown of Light, as you call it. What exactly does it do?" He asked as he straightened himself and rifled through his pockets for his cigarettes. After pulling the black leather and steel case from his vest he casually lit it and took a short drag.
"Because if I'm right, I may have what he wants." He said as he unshouldered the green bag that was slung over his shoulder and dug through it a moment. He then removed an object wrapped in a silken cloth.
"When I found this one in the ruins of the castle here I didn't think much of it. I believe there are more of these, but I have no real evidence." Kazen said as he unwrapped the cloth and revealed the glowing Crown. He sat it on the map table and it floated there about an inch off the table's surface.
"I've been carrying this for a while, hoping to find others."

Kazen looked towards Soren and stared through him, he was feeling something close to anger, but it was mixed with mild shame and degredation. He smoothed over the sleeve of his shirt and nodded to Merlin. "Thank you, I appreciate it." He said as the gash closed.

"Well. Now that it's on the table; my....inner demon seems to have awoken." He said flatly, he was in a rush of emptiness. He felt light headed, but otherwise he was fine. Save for the growing need within him; the need to lay Vanitas bare. He needed to break him, every fiber of this young man needed to be eradicated.

"I've changed it seems. I don't feel as f I'm whole anymore. There...there's this vast emptiness that's been there all along. Though I do not quite understand what lies at the bottom, I looked into that dark space in my heart. i believe that is where the beast hides within the emptiness..." He rambled for a moment but eventually trailed off. He peered down at the map and began making notes.

After a few moments of scribbling and analysis Kazen looked up and over to Cid. "How many airships do we have at our disposal?" He asked as he went back to his notes and waited for an answer.

Kazen brushed his shirt off, look around the room and assessed the situation. Merlin was here, as well as Cid. That was good, it raised their chances of success.

"Good. Limbo, limbo is good." He said in a muted tone, he was still fuzzy. He hated feeling fuzzy, and the effect it had on his senses. He didn't feel as sharp, and it corrupted his decision making.

"We need to put an end to his reign. And swiftly." He said finally, adjusting his gloves before rolling up the sleeves on his shirt. It was then that he noticed a gash on his arm. It wasn't bleeding much, but it was annoying to him nonetheless. He looked to Soren and then to the table.

"Do we have a map?" He asked finally.

Kazen nodded and looked around the warehouse. "There's not a whole lot here to use, but the over all scope of things is dire. We need to regroup and come up with a plan." He said as he climbed on top of a crate and took a seat. He drew a flask from his best and took a sip from it. He then heard the thud on the roof and jumped to his feet. He was running toward the rear exit of the warehouse. "We'll figure it out later. For now let's run."

-----Raslan----- Kazen shook his head. "No, no I didnt know that. Im not at 100% here but I think he is weak as well. Why else would he use this much force to seek us out?" He demanded as he crossed his arma and leaned against a large shipping container. "You should have let me kill him." He spat on the floor and slipped his coat off. The weather had changed and it was growing warmer. "We need to plan this out. Is there any way you can spy o him without notice? I've got to do this right. We need to plan." He said as he checked his leg holster for his set of knives. They were still there, luckily he hadnt lost them. "And about the heartless? Your guess is as good as mine." He said as he slipped on a pair of black leather gloves. "We know he's got a base of operations somewhere in the mountains to the north. We'll start there."

-----Raslan------ Kazen jumped back as the smoke bombs exploded and covered their escape. He dispersed his keyblade and slid dow the fire escape on the rear of the building. He made his way quickly to the ground and ran down an alley. Once he and Soren had arrived at a safe spot he tirned to his friend and stared him down. "Why did you interrupt me? He could be dead right now. I need to kill him." He said angrily, slamming his fist into a nearby door. "Fuck!" He yelled before ducking into the warehouse they had fled to. "We cant keep missing our chances." He said to himself as he paced about the large empty room.

The Anti-Form Kazen moved quickly through the facility searching for a way out. After a few moments of moving through the shadows it opened a corridor of darkness and slipped through to the streets below. The beast rematerialized on a rooftop and was immediatly targeted by the city's defenses, Vanitas' guard s moved to his location and began their attack. The beast let out a primal roar and began ripping through the soldiers. The soldiers moved quickly to the rooftop and made their way towards the large beast.

Kazen clawwed at the soldiers as they fought, he was aware of what was happening by the influx of dark energy was too great for him to control. After he'd cleared the rooftop he heard a voice from behind.

"Somebody isnt having a very good day." Vanitas said with a sly laugh."And just where have you been hiding? A heartless as powerful as you will make a great asset." He said as he held his hand out towards the beast and attempted to manipulate it. Though the only thing he managed to do was cause the Darkness in Kazen to shift slightly before it returned to it's original state.

The beast charged towards Vanitas and after crossing half of the rooftop and jumping over the fallen soldiers it stopped in its tracks and stared Vanitas down. A second or two later the darkness around him dissipated and the Keybearer returned to his former self. He stumbled forward a few steps and upon noticing his enemy was only a few feet away he sighed and summoned his keyblade. "Fuck." He muttered as he tried to make sense of what was happening.

Seig shrugged and sighed lightly. "Trust me, it wasnt easy. You've just got to take it one day at a time. As for my powers, they're back but Im no where near full strength." He replied as he looked up to Lario and shrugged again. "We')l handle anything he can throw at us."
