A weird, black, orb-like object announced its awakening with a quiet, mechanical buzzing, followed by the opening of a circular hole on its surface from which a blue light was emitted. Moments later the purpose of said orb became clear, as the hologram of a blue-haired person started being displayed from the hole. The unknown figure was clothed in a long, blue coat and was wearing a butler's outfit beneath all wrapped together in a blue oversized tie with a glowing blue pearl at its centre. His hair was long and messy, with large bags under his eyes telling the story of an overworked overachiever. His right hand was buried in one of the pockets provided by his coat, while the other was firmly holding a cup filled with what appeared to be a steaming hot black liquid. In a short moment of anticipation, he looked at the viewer of the hologram and mustered up a smile before he finally broke the quiet but deafening buzzing coming from the projector device.

"Congratulations! You are one of the lucky few who were selected to join the newly formed IXth SU's δ division. It must be an exciting prospect to receive a direct invitation to move to the 2nd Pillar! For some, this may even be a dream come true. Now, I am sure that this is news that you would like to properly celebrate, as you very much should! However, I am in the unfortunate position where I must remind you that time is very much of the essence here. After the rather..." The figure could be seen waving their free hand in a circular motion as if trying to find an appropriate word for the situation, "... unfortunate demise of the last unit, structure must be recreated promptly and immediately.

As you are likely aware, crime has been on the rise recently-"
After saying that, the hologram changed to a bunch of tables, figures, and graphs, all seemingly showing an increase in something. From the context, it could be deduced that these numbers are in reference to a growing crime rate. "Petty crime in the 2nd has increased quite significantly, the Children of Yhorgul and WIZARD have been on the move more often, and we have had higher than the usual activity of He and above level entities in the 7th. It almost feels like something big is going to happen soon..."
The person took a moment to stare into their coffee mug which they had been using to accentuate their words by gesturing with it, before raising their eyes to look directly at the viewer and pointing towards them using the mug.

"But this is exactly where you come in! You are expected to be at the 2nd's Tower exactly 2 days from now at precisely 10 am. Tardiness will be punished with expulsion. Oh and, bring your Anima and some clothes that are well suited for exercise. If you do not have an Anima you will be provided with one. You will need it." The transmission ended with a last smirk from the figure directly at the viewer, before the device shut off. Afterward, a different kind of buzzing noise could be heard as the orb printed and eventually spat out a neon-blue ticket for the hyper-velocity railway that read "VIP Ticket and Travel Permission to: 2nd Tower Station. 1 Use(s) remaining". Then, the machine went completely cold, seemingly having outlived its purpose.

This roleplay takes place in the fictional city of Soma, a dystopian futuristic nightmare of consumerism, exploitation, corruption, man-made (and non-man-made) horrors beyond comprehension, and authoritarian control all glued together by elements of sci-fi and fantasy combined. In this place it is survival of the fittest- Even if not initially apparent through the blinding bling of fortune that the wealthy and powerful few have acquired.
Here, you will play a character that joins the recently created δ division of the IXth Security Unit in the 2nd Pillar. There, you will undergo different types of missions that deal with threats that are deemed too big to handle by the common police force, such as magic-wielding delinquents, deeply-rooted crime syndicates, and even the SCP-esque/lovecraftian entities that come from outside the city.
As you go along, you will slowly unravel secrets that were never meant to be found while creating tight bond with your fellow members of the δ division, all of which ultimately culminates in events that have been centuries in the making and will shake up Soma to its very core.

If any of that interests you, I welcome you to read through the rest of the post (and the Q&A) that I have written up so far. As always, if there are any questions, just ask! Further below you will find the first glimpse at a database that I intend to keep expanding on as the roleplay progresses. As an additional note: The story will be structured into separate arcs which are further subdivided into different chapters.

Some closing words before the infodump

I would call this section "TL;DR", but I would like any interested person to actually read the entirety of the post above, so we are all on the same page here. To reiterate: This post serves both as an interest check and recruitment at the same time. The RP will happen, the question just is if any additional players would be interested in joining! Below there will be example entries from the database to show some of the worldbuilding that I have been and will be doing. Again, keep in mind that it just represents the tip of the iceberg. The Discord server contains more entries and many have been omitted so they can be revealed as the story goes on.

If any of what you read in this post intrigues you enough to give it a go, please express your interest below! If you are convinced, you can even apply directly here. I am very much looking forward to welcoming you to this roleplay and finally get it going!

Alice Nova

The situation was too tense to be crept out by some crooked smile- feeling no emotions at all would surely be more helpful and aid her in thinking rationally, is what Alice thought. Unfortunately however, Junko's encouraging joke went right over Alice's head. For all the smarts that she had, Alice was always a bit... socially dense.

"No. I can assure you that my quirk is all you can see." Alice replied reassuringly.

While she regretted not having any instructions for Nadeko on the fly, since the magnet-wielder appeared rather suddenly, the idea which Nadeko had more than made up for it. It just made sense! If the briefcases were influenced by her magnetism then she could probably easily steal it from anyone even at a longer distance, with the exception of the villain's hulk Dulga maybe.

"Good thinking Nadeko. I'll leave that part to yo-"

Yet another member appeared? It was the cheerful Saki whom Alice had met yesterday and who also was sitting in front of her in hero class. Maybe the number's disadvantage was a false initial impression? It could be that their team members were just late. While not an applaudable quality, Alice would never think of complaining about receiving additional backup, especially for an exercise of this caliber.

"Seems like you two want to go together. That's fine, working as a team is certainly smarter.

As the owl watched Donny and Junko begin to disappear underground, she made sure to give one last word of advice before taking off herself.

"I will mostly hold back on direct confrontations. I'll be your airial support for the exercise- Remember, I can hear you most likely from anywhere. If you need help, shout. Otherwise, I will shout callouts as I see fit. Good luck everyone."

And with those words, Alice flapped her wings and drastically increased her horizontal speed. She decided to keep a low profile for now as she zoomed past Nadeko and Saki. For now, being a watchful eye was certainly more appropriate than recklessly charging in, especially considering that some of the opposing members were quite adept at close quarter combat and physical confrontations.

Alice discovered a relatively large building about 3/4 of the way from the heroes' base to the center of the field and decided to land on top of it. To do so she ascended the wall facing away from villain spawn to make sure she could not be spotted.
Once on top the girl would squat near the edge of the roof and look down, keeping an eye out for anything unusual. It was her ear, however, that picked up the first unusual occurrence. A relatively loud bang emitting from the other side of the field, quite close to the villainous base.
"Too far away. No need to bother investigating Alice thought to herself.

Just as she expected, Alice was able to see the angelic boy Acion weave around the buildings in the distance. Keeping track of him was a bit difficult considering there were many buildings in between them so she could only see him fly through the few gaps that were there. As long as he stayed low like that she would not be able to predict any actions for now. However, the main target which Alice was searching for was someone else anyway. The "Raidboss", so to speak, Dulga. Using her owlish predatory vision, Alice would be able to see Dulga in the instance that she appeared anywhere visible to the owl. However, she would likely have to get closer to the center for that to occur.

"Gather as much intel as possible. Information is key.

Alice Nova

After Junko awkwardly but successfully recalled Alice's name, the overly polite owlgirl realized her embarrassing mistake- Not having properly introduced herself to those who did not know her properly yet. How awful! It would certainly require immediate action. Alice turned towards Junko, bowed forward slightly in a polite manner, and introduced herself properly.

"Oh, my apologies. My name is Alice Nova- It is my pleasure to meet you."

Having said that, Alice felt much better already. While some might consider these kinds of things superficial, heck, chances are no one else cared, Alice paid quite close attention to them regardless.

After having done her greeting towards the group, Alice would listen to the further quirk explanation from all parties involved. Even their fourth member, Nadeko, whom Alice greeted properly and accordingly similar to how she had done with Junko of course, had arrived and explained her quirk in uh... not exactly great detail but it was certainly sufficient to describe the quirk's capabilities.
Now, all of the supposed heroes for this exercise had arrived. Well, all was a bit of an overstatement, considering how they really were only four out of the promised six teammates. Whatever had happened to the other two, this exercise just dramatically increased in difficulty.

"It would take too long to explain my quirk in great detail. Essentially, I can fully or partly transform my body into that of an owl. I have enhanced vision, hearing, somewhat enhanced strength, and can fly without making sounds. Naturally, stealth is what I excel at." And with that Alice finished her quirk explanation rather quickly, albeit at the cost of glossing over some intricacies that would have been useful for her team members. Oh well, perhaps there was time for it on the battlefield.

Next, Mako finally announced what type of exercise it would be. Honestly, capture the flag was quite an awful game type for the four of them, considering that it is a number's game and they were a team with a number's disadvantage. To win this exercise meant to show tactical prowess and expertise at a high level, so Alice felt personally challenged to come up with some kind of plan. Even if only to feed her own ego. Surprisingly, as the owlgirl was visibly thinking about the possibilities, having quite the focused expression, Donny came up with a plan which sounded rather reasonable for her. Defending the briefcases made no sense since they could only defend 4 different houses while the opposing team could attack 6. Stealing the briefcases themselves to protect them on their own was... quite smart, considering how Donny could supposedly move through the floor and Alice could move through the air.
Frankly, Donny's stuttering was making communicating quite hard is what Alice thought. However, it made her remember the conversation she had with Donny yesterday...
Shortly after having said thought, the owlgirl would stare at Junko, seemingly being lost in deep thought while doing so. Her stare was quite piercing with those almost glowy, orange owl-eyes staring right into the very core of the awkward girl.

"You stay with Yang-san. Alice said towards Junko, finally breaking the intense stare.
"You feed off of fear. And if I recall correctly, no offense, Yang-san is quite... nervous and scared of these situations. Mayhaps you can feed off of his fear?"
Suddenly, Donny decided to take off. Sure, he was certainly in the right to do so but... running and talking strategy would surely prove difficult. However, even while running Alice would keep on talking about the idea she just got
"Their biggest threat is that brute of a girl Tarata-san, no? You two are the perfect match for her. Yang-san's fear fuels Kurowai's powers, making you hopefully be able to match the brute while Yang-san's body is impervious to physical attacks, making her essentially useless against him-"
After she was done explaining that first point, Alice graciously morphed her arms into her signature huge brown-feathered wings and took off, flying shortly above the ground in order to stay in communication.
"I will protect you from their second biggest threat, the other airborne. I think I can hold him off enough for him to be no problem for you. If he decides to steal a briefcase I will snatch it back- After everything he told me yesterday I should be able to out-maneuver him.

Which only left one last person who, at this point, was hopefully running alongside them. Alice shifted her attention towards Maeda.
"Frankly, I have nothing for you- Try to stop them wherever you can I suppose. You have a rather unique quirk so you probably have ways to utilize it efficiently." It felt a bit bad leaving Maeda with that after having such an interesting plan for Donny and Junko, but such is life.

"If any of you need any help at all just shout. With my hearing, I'll be able to hear it from anywhere and will come for support immediately. I cannot snatch any briefcase myself since I cannot fly silently anymore while carrying it, but I will aid you wherever you need it."

Now, Alice was flying alongside the scarily running Donny and (hopefully) the others as well. They had a plan on how to defeat the number's disadvantage- And while they didn't know that, the opponents also had a wildcard whose quirk was completely unknown to them. The exercise would be an uphill battle for sure... will they be able to score a victory against these sheer odds?

Alice Nova

As the break came to an end, so did Alice's lone-time. Hearing the bell which signaled the students to return to their classrooms made her get up practically immediately which was followed by her crushing the now empty box of orange-mango juice and neatly disposing of it in the trashcan next to the bench she was sitting on just a moment ago. While having conversations with people was nice and she had enjoyed meeting both Acion and Donny a little more closely than simply superficially, Alice still needed to be alone for a more or less equivalent amount of time just to refuel some of that social energy. There was enough left in the tank to get through the rest of the day.

And exactly that is what Alice did, sitting through the remainder of classes which were still due that day. Since it was the first day, none of them were particularly special, yet Alice still did her best to give a solid first impression to all of her teachers. After all, she was used to being somewhat of an honors student in prior educational institutions, which meant that the opinions of her teachers mattered quite a lot to her.
At the end of the day, the owl was satisfied with her experience and behavior on the first day. Contrary to what she was used to, she was even able to socialize with some of her fellow hero-course students. Having enjoyed her first day at this new school, Alice could sleep particularly well that night- Or rather the small portion of the night where the nocturnal hero-student was actually able to get some sleep in- and was looking forward to the next day.

On the next day, most classes would resume as normal with nothing noteworthy to mention. Alice paid attention during the classes, took notes, and participated in the lessons. Pretty typical nerd-stuff, so it is not exactly worth mentioning here.
The interesting part came once it was finally time for the most extraordinary of classes: The hero class, duh.

And just on the second day, another quite taxing exercise was proposed, or rather, announced by their lovely teacher, the ex-villain.
A fight between heroes and villains with both sides being played by the future-heroes. Quite an interesting idea and Alice was glad to be on the hero team, rather than the villain team. While she was able to see the benefit of gaining insight into the villain's perspective, being a hero just seemed a lot more appealing. After all, they were in the hero class for a reason!
Sadly, the teach did not provide any additional information about what the actual task would be or how one could successfully "win" this exercise. This was particularly annoying for Alice since she couldn't really think of any strategy while getting changed into her gym clothes for the upcoming task. Therefore, with no clear strategy in mind, Alice had to approach the situation fairly unprepared. She hoped that talking to her heroic teammates could maybe give rise to some strategies on how to take down those villains.

When the owlish girl finally arrived at the site she took a good moment to take in the view. The buildings themselves spoke a story of a training ground which was once used often and successfully to train heroes. Nowadays, however, it was quite in ruins. The once so proud buildings partially collapsed, partially still functional from an outside perspective. It was an almost apocalyptic feeling, looking at the abandoned arena. An aesthetic which Alice found pleasing to some extent, although her mind had no time to dwell on that thought. Instead she was busy scanning the surrounding area for her co-heroes, her companions and teammates for the imposing exercise.
Having spotted Donny and Junko, Alice approached them confidently and began speaking with her usual quiet but polite voice.

"Hello- I believe that we are teammates for the exercise."
Honestly, the two hero-team members so far (besides Alice) were also the weirdest one out of the entire class, based on a first judgement after the quirk presentation. Was... Alice considered to be weird too? While she meant no offense to her peers, she hoped she was not classified as an outcast by her teacher. However, besides that, Alice could certainly see why Donny and Junko were placed on the hero side. Having Junko act like a hero might be pretty difficult given her apparent quirk- And while Alice was glad to have Donny on her team, considering his strength, she wasn't quite sure how to apply him yet. Regardless, she already kind of saw her as the strategist of the team anyways so she was trying to think of strategies, even if that might have been a bit arrogant.

The opponents were nothing to take easy, though. Just Dulga and Acion already were quite the force to be reckoned with. Dulga was a monster in and on her own, but Acion would likely be Alice's key opponent anyways. She wondered if the main battle of hers would be a battle for air superiority with Acion.
Oh well, for now she could do naught but wait and see while conversing with her teammates.

@Lucius Cypher @TheWendil

Alice Nova

Eventually, Alice had split away from Acion as she had no real interest in spending the last few minutes of her break in the gym. Rather, she wanted to sip her freshly purchased box of orange-mango juice in peace somewhere quietly. Well, as quietly as the campus of a highschool would allow anyways. She had thought about flying up to the rooftop to spend her break there but... Alice genuinely thought that'd be a bit too much. A nice shadowy bench would do the trick for now. Luckily, the nocturnal girl quickly found one which exactly suited her requirements! A bench nicely secluded from the main area, right beneath a tree where she could listen to the rustling of the wind and which also provided shade.
Alice walked up to it, put her bag onto it, and sat down right next to the backpack with a relaxed sigh.
Only shortly after she used the provided straw to pierce a hole into the designated spot and then slurped her orange-mango juice. It was deliciously sweet!

Out of the corner of her eyes she spotted a familiar but no-less creepy frame... "climbing" up the building to reach the top of it. It appeared as though a certain Donny had similar ideas to the owl- The need for seclusion, peace and quiet. The girl chuckled at the sight as she just imagined the poor janitor who would have to clean this mess up later.
That did not matter at that moment though as Alice averted her eyes again and just watched the distant main part of the campus with the other students hanging out while drinking her beloved juice.

Yay from me too. I suppose one more player cannot hurt.

However, after him, I'd draw the line for now and observe the flow for a while.

Alice Nova

Except for a certain edgelord, all of the introductions went by rather smoothly. With everyone doing exactly as they were told by their teacher, including Alice of course, the quick introduction was over as fast as it had begun. It was always awkward being put on the spot in front of the whole class, especially since they weren't familiar with each other yet. The next exercise would continue this sentiment by making everyone show off their quirk in front of the other students and some other students who were invited to watch. At least this was what they were told once they had arrived at the gym hall. Honestly, 10 minutes was probably a little too short, especially considering that the students were not familiar at all with the school's layout. Luckily, most if not everyone appeared to have made it in time despite that.

Now that they were all collectively gathered in their gym clothes in a rather spacious gym hall, they would be able to show off their quirks with sufficient freedom... for most students anyway. Of course, there were still some limitations depending on one's quirk. This was both true for Alice and for other students, as she would soon come to see. Regardless, the apparently relatively large away of props that they were allowed to use would surely come in handy for many students. After all, this quirk show was to make an impression on everyone in the room, be it a teacher or student. Additionally, it would be a great way to demonstrate that one can weave their quirk confidently even when being watched by a large group of people. At least, this was Alice's interpretation of the reasons for the task.

The first student who would show off their inherent ability was the girl who had introduced herself as Nadeko. Quite frankly she had caught Alice's eyes earlier already due to the quite apparent difference about her body. "That's just awfully impractical... she thought to herself while observing the "performance" so to speak. While the malformed hands were quite obviously a handicap, the girl's control of the magnetism with her hands was quite impressive. Activating, deactivating, and regulating one's quirk's strengths in such quick succession was no easy feat but Nadeko almost made it look easy. Alice made sure to pay close attention to her and every other student's performance since it was quite important to be able to properly judge one's co-students in a hero course. Alice had done her research before joining the hero course and, group exercises appeared to be a common thing. While watching, however, Alice appeared more stoic than anything. Not cold, uninviting but also not enthused. She was merely focussing on the events unfolding in front of her very eyes, standing next to all the other students in her comfy gym outfit.

Next up was Kousuke. The mute who apparently only spoke via his phone, at least from what Alice had seen of him so far. Certainly, a unique individual right off the bat since this wasn't exactly the most common thing. It seemed to be a quirk of his, whether on purpose or not, albeit not his actual quirk. Regardless, he began producing some form of gum and used it as a makeshift rope which honestly appeared to be rather sticky. Alice's hypothesis about its inherent stickiness was proven correct as he was able to simply stick to the ceiling which almost appeared effortless, despite the daunting height. An impressive feat indeed! Sadly, however, Alice could not help but imagine the sticky gum being stuck in her feathers, making them icky and glued together... the thought caused her to get immediate goosebumps! And not the good kind either!

After Kousuke, it was Dulga. From Alice's first impression in the classroom, she seemed like a rather.... stoic person. Or well, mayhaps that was not the right word to describe her. Either way, she didn't exactly seem approachable as a person, to put it that way.
Her performance was a show of pure strength, of dominance, and of power. At least that is the vibe that was given to the comparatively petit owl. It was true that Alice's quirk provided her with somewhat enhanced physical abilities, allowing her to perform feats which other's with her age and/or body type would not be able to but compared to the towering strength of Dulga, one who was able to snap such a strong solid in half, it seemed nought but nothing. When she pulled out those additional pairs of hands, Alice could not help but think of certain figured of Hinduism, albeit the display of power was much rawer and less refined than what one would come to expect from that direction.
Regardless, the show of strength had impressed Alice. It might have been a bit bland but that is not a big deal when one simply wants to show off their inhuman strength. In that regards, Dulga was successful.

While this performance surely left an impression, it was the next performance which would burn itself into Alice's mind and actually give an openly emotional response in the owl. While his initial impression was nothing special, once Alice was able to get a good look at his six wings in all their glory, the owl's eyes began widening a bit. Mayhaps it was a sense of solidarity from one wing-type to another, although Acion seemed to be much more on the angelic side than bird-type like Alice. The sight of his wings certainly caused her to lean forward slightly and watch the performance in its full length. Alice was more than impressed by what she had been shown, a display of skill and efficiency in flying which was almost unprecedented in what she had seen. Since she was a flyer herself, Alice knew how much skill the maneuvers put on display by Acion took and could appreciate them even more.
Even when he was done, Alice couldn't help but follow Acion walk back to the lot of them with her eyes, eyeing him carefully. Whether it was a sense of rivalry from a skilled flyer or a sense of solidarity as described prior remained to be seen. Perhaps it was even a combination of both...

There was no time for her to dwell on the sentiment for too long, however, since the next performance would begin immediately. She wanted to focus on everyone equally so she could adequately make an impression of them. Therefore, Alice shifted her body back to her normal, formal position and began watching as Kouji began. In contrast to the other performances, this one may have been a bit lackluster but aerokinesis surely was a powerful skill. Once honed and trained further it would surely be of great use! For now, though, this quirk showing would be put into the back of Alice's head compared to the other ones anyway.

The last one to act before Alice decided to step up was also the weirdest showcase so far considering how "out there" the quirk actually was. Frankly, it was difficult for Alice to decide what to make of the performance. Thanks to Alice's enhanced eyesight she was able to catch every little detail of the performance, even from so far away. "His body is doing the eating but it almost seems to take no damage whatsoever to it. Additionally, it is so flexible... one wonders where the limits are. Almost monstrous in nature..." and with those thoughts, Alice concluded her assessment of his quirk-showcase. While Donny left an impression, Alice would need to see a lot more to get a good understanding of the "in's and out's" of his quirk.

Finally, Alice had enough of waiting around. Whether it was the spark of seeing another wing-user perform, or simply her growing restlessness of watching performances which ignited her motivation to show off what she was capable of did not matter at this point since the owl simply decisively stepped up after Donny in front of her class, teacher and the support class.

Alice walked towards the center of the gym, turned around to face the class, and then slowly took off her glasses with an almost inaudible sigh. After putting the glasses down on the floor in front of her, she extended her arms to her left and right before transforming them into what would become her owl's wings. They were large, beautiful wings with brown feathers bearing different shades of brown in a rather pleasant looking pattern. The total length would be essentially her body height, meaning they would drag over the floor should she just let her wings rest and hang down in a straight line. While she no longer had arms, Alice quickly used her wings with their original purpose in mind: To fly. With a few wide flaps, Alice ascended and began flying circles around the gym. Now, of course, this was nothing too impressive and wouldn't make her stand out in front of anyone. Therefore, she had to think of something. Sadly the space of the gym severely limited what she was capable of. Showing off her enhanced eyesight and hearing was practically impossible without prior preparing and a full owl-transformation would not be possible here since it would instantly drop all of her clothes and... a back-transformation would be difficult without them.

"...This should work." Alice thought to herself as she began to fly towards one end of the gym. Upon reaching it, she turned around to face the open hall. The winged girl inhaled sharply before with one quick and powerful flap of her wings began dashing forward, adjusting her body position to be aerodynamically adjusted to allow for the maximum speed possible and dashed towards the other end of the gym. She would reach it rather soon as she flew past her peers with impressive speed. However, while her speed was quite fast, the most impressive part was the wind which was produced by it, or rather, the lack thereof. Yes indeed, typical to what is known for owls, Alice was able to do her flight maneuver in practically complete silence and without producing any wind. Due to the special shape of her feathers and her refined ability, she was able to fly without making any noise at all or causing any wind or airflow. One could say Alice flew in complete Silence.

Once she had done her feat, Alice descended from the skies (or as far high as the gym would allow anyways), re-transform her wings back into the much more practical, opposable-thumb-containing, hands with which she picked up her glasses, put them back on with grace, adjusted them on her nose and walked back to her peers.
Admittedly, this performance wouldn't paint a picture of an owlgirl as much as just a girl with wings. However, the girl hoped she was able to impress some amongst the audience, most importantly their teacher and a certain someone, at whom she would glance for just a short moment after having returned to the group of students.
