Born on Clak'dor VII to a wealthy family, D'an was first assumed to be a musician like the Pathrow clan had been for generations. His family quickly realized however he had no taste for music, and instead had a flair for scholarship. Pleased with his new-found talent, D'an childhood was spoiled with the best tutors, educators and resources his parents could afford. Gaining some mild fan as a language prodigy, a passing Jedi (one of Luke's early students just after the Thrawn crisis) realized he had Force powers. Convincing his parents that their child had the potential to become a Jedi , they quickly assented, giving D'an over to the Order.
He proved to be a difficult student. Lack of ambition and little concerned with the mystical abilities of the Force, he lazed in his physical areas of development and struggled with even the most basic lightsaber combat. Passed from Master to master, most considered him on the track to failure with that time fast approaching.
The arrival of the Vong however, changed all that. The sheer pressure and trauma of the attack forced the young Bith to confront his issues head on. Throwing himself into his work, he soon became a close friend (and eventual colleague of Clighal) studying Vong technology. Unsung but vital, D'an was one of the first lifeforms to master the Vong language. Despite his pacifistic leanings, he also finally applied himself to the lightsaber learning the highly unusual Trakata technique, which he found effective against the traditional minded Vong.
After the war, he stuck close to Clighal, learning much from her and doing intensive research into many aspects of the Force, Galactic history and diplomacy. Stunned, as other Jedi, by the appearance of Abeloth, he was one of the strongest supporters of the withdrawal to Shedu Maad and heavily invested in the search of the Lost Tribe.
