Bio

Hello! I am known as Paraminer. Ideas flow from my mind as air does from a fan. The endless possibilities of science are my constant obsession, and not a second passes in which I do not think of the future. When I write stories, I tend to spend almost abnormal amounts of time developing the world in which that tale takes place, so I'd like to think that I have the ability to engage a reader both intellectually and visually. Because of my aforementioned interest in science, some of my favourite genres of roleplay are Sci-Fi/mystery and Steampunk.

I hope that I can be a valuable asset to the people here!

@Traps@BrightSteel You people can start if you want
@Traps@BrightSteel I'm busy with schoolwork this week. Sorry for being inactive! If I have time, I'll certainly post the exposition.

Here's what I have so far.

A thick blanket of smog enveloped the city, poisoning the lungs and hiding it from the eye. From a distance, this veil transformed the tall obelisks of skyscrapers into angels of death, with eyes like spotlights. jacket-wearing woman observed all of this, as she sat in the dusty street of the old, decrepit town. For a moment, she forgot her predicament, taking in the corrupt beauty of the landscape. But this took away from the seriousness of Kord’s dire situation, for she had been walking for hours, to no avail. She had come here to meet Aaron, but he must have given her bad directions--who in their right mind would meet here? All this for a novel!
--
Something was kicking up the dust, which was too heavy to be lifted by the wind. A faint, but distinct figure became visible in the cloud of brown soot now airborne. It was a squat man, who hobbled along like a dwarf, sneezing with the humor of a comedian. Finally, it seemed, the man had arrived. How he, in his physical condition, managed to walk such great distances was anyone’s guess. The young woman rose from her spot, shining her flashlight into the air. “Mr. Aaron, I’m here.”, she shouted. “I’ve brought the money, but I need to see it first.” Mr. Aaron spoke quietly, and with the tenderness of a Nun. “Ah, there you are Cordelia. This one’s from 1931, and extremely well preserved.” He handed her an airtight bag, inside a small book, with three words on its cover: Brave New World. Kord’s eyes scanned the faded paperback with extreme interest, and--after paying the geriatric man--she turned away. “Kord” the man called. “I’ve heard the DPD is looking for a genetic engineer. You’re probably the prime candidate for the job. Best stay off the streets for a while.”
--
Someone had kicked up the dust again, but this time with violent force. It vacated the buildings that it oppressed, and directed its wrath upon Kord. The now dust-blanketed engineer covered her head, trying to keep hidden in and amongst filthy rags on the side of the weathered street. To her dismay, the distinct throbbing sound of a police drone filled the air, and its spotlight penetrating the filthy air. The sleek cab landed with the quietness of an airplane, and the passenger’s face poked through the glass. Through an opening in the rubbish, she observed an armored, navy-blue droid exit the vehicle. Its thermal lenses seemed to glint a crimson color.
A red light in the automaton's torso lit up as it spoke in English, and then Japanese. “You are under arrest.” the Cop droned, whisking out a small handgun, its laser pointer aimed at the dirt-caked “Do not struggle.” Kord tried to run, but she could not move her limbs. Her firearm was confiscated, and stored in a compartment in the officer’s “neck”. Soon she was in cuffs, and the officer’s firm grasp landed her in the back seat of the vehicle. It surprised even her how little resistance she had given.
--
The back compartment was cushioned, so seatbelts were unnecessary. A single display on the wall parroted the familiar banter about the right to remain silent, and another one in between the seats asked for a fingerprint identification--or be administered an electric shock. The onboard flight computer wouldn’t stop spitting out superfluous information “15 degrees right, one point three six-second burst at half throttle, ten-second airbrake duration”. Through the small glass slit in the wall, the neon glow of the city flooded the compartment with light. The vehicle was approaching a cube-like building, about a kilometer cubed in volume. It had the appearance of porcelain, but it was actually graphene laced with titanium. A strip of pulsing lights on the roof indicated a landing strip.

@Traps After an exposition, we'll start at the police station.
@Traps Is your character nearly done, Traps?
Can't wait for a start!!!

Soon! Probably by the end of the day!
Name:Mr. Aaron
Occupation:Trader of antiques, writer.
Age:Elderly, about 65 years of age
Visual Description: A short, old man who wears a skullcap. He has a grey beard on his face, and has a prosthetic hand. His voice is calming, and his eyes gentle, but he has a dark past.
Background: He was a librarian, but government funding from the library was cut, so he inherited its books.
@TrapsI thought that this could only be done with extremely small particles, hence "Quantum" physics. I don't think it could be used reliably as a transporter technology. All right, I'll try to format my post.
Character name: Kord (Cordelia)
Gender: Female
Real age: 34 years old
Real age: 6 years old
Race: Artificial Human (but she think's she's human, and so does everyone else)

Background: She works as a genetic engineer for the Lear Corp cybernetics division, and collects old books. Her obsession with old literature caused her to realize that the Humanity of the future pales in comparison to that of the past. Kord is especially good at thinking in pictures, and remembers being diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome as a child. Strangely, she can't seem to contact her parents.

My idea: A futuristic Roleplay about human nature, and the increasingly blurry boundaries between Man and Machine. Setting: 22nd century United States.

The basic premise is this: that machines are so advanced that they are beginning to take over human jobs. Normally, Humanity would find a new line of work, but people are starting to care less about leading productive lives. They simply seek out the easiest method of pleasure, and the increasingly human-like computers are getting ambitious. The main character works for Lear Corporation--the leader of Genetic Engineering and Human Peripheral design--but she begins to realize that she is contributing to the problem. This may lead to her trying to sabotage the company's efforts, but I don't really know yet.

Hi, everyone! This is a Science Fiction Roleplay that aims to explore the effects of the Lear Corporation's products on Humanity.

I want to limit this to a small number of participants (3-4), because I want to avoid over saturating it with uninteresting characters, and instead focus on a select few, taking time to really develop them. Let me know if you have any ideas for Characters, and feel free to add them, so long as you feel a new character is necessary to the plot. Don't be afraid to use violence, but my intent isn't to create an action roleplay, but a dramatic one. If you're expecting this to be a Michael Bay film, this won't be the thread for you. We also don't have FTL travel, so assume that it takes about a year to get to Mars.
Suggestions:
-Responses should be 2-4 paragraphs long
-Try to develop the plot. Straying from it is fine, but I feel like it should try to develop the story--or its characters--in some way.
-Constancy is key! I've done some world building below to help people along with this.
-If you don't have the time to write posts quickly, it's fine. Believe me, I understand your predicament. I think it's better to strive for quality over quantity, so take your time.
-Overall, have fun with this, and don't be afraid to take risks!
How to Apply:
-Introduce yourself!
-State what you'd like to see here, and write a few sentences about what you're capable of.
Setting: Late 22nd century Denver, Colorado. AI and robotics technology is extremely advanced, to a point that many jobs have been taken over by machines. Denver's borders necessitated an expansion, as the city was developing too rapidly to be left confined to its previous area. These new borders extend all the way to Castle Rock. The protagonist (Kord) lives in a large apartment complex, which is 60 stories tall.
Please note that these are only some of the things that are a part of this world. If you have something interesting to add, please do so!
Characters: I'll add to this in a little while
Technology:
Automated Police Officers

Google Iris (Electronic Contacts)
E-Contacts allow the user to experience AR 24/7. Society has taken advantage of this, posting virtual street signs at every
intersection. Oftentimes, houses will have virtual furniture.
Coca-Cola food

Emotion treatment-

Transcontinental Hyperloop Network (Rat Tunnels)
Essentially Elon Musk’s hyperloops, but with a higher speed. It is possible to travel across the country in a few hours, and tickets are much cheaper than airplane ones.
Repliholic Beverages
Fake alcohol that tastes exactly like the real thing. It even contains biological machines to temporarily stimulate the pleasure centers of the brain.
Weapons
Exclusively military. These high powered lasers can be fired from space, melting most of what they come in contact with.
Orbital laser cannons rendered nukes obsolete, as they are easier to direct, and cause far fewer problems.
Advances in the Internet
Common internet speed is 1.5 Terabits per second, but much of it is used up in neural communications, which are very costly to transfer
A slower 100Gb/s service is publicly available, at any place in most cities.
Computers
Laptops are defunct. All consumer devices are now small portables.
Programmable Clothing
Clothes made of tiny fibrous robots, which has a manipulatable shape.
Culture:
Architecture
-It's very flowing and organic, and concrete buildings are often layered with enamel paint, which comes in various colors. In order to take advantage of as much space as possible, a great deal of them are underground.
-Raincoats are very much in style, even in desert regions of the United States.
-The production of new paperback books has been outlawed after deforestation became too severe, but eBooks are still legal.
Eating Practices
It is common to eat with plastic gloves, and chopsticks are as common as forks in all restaurants
The U.S. has adopted many cultural traits from Japan, such as the lack of chairs in some restaurants.
Language
Some Japanese words have assimilated into English, albeit in broken ways. One such example is the word "Konala", which is a combination of Konnichiwa and the Spanish word "Hola".
Japanese is taught in schools alongside English.
Ethiopian food is suddenly wildly popular
In the southwest region of the U.S., Spanish is an official language, in addition to English and Japanese.
Pets-To own any sort of wild animal is illegal, so most people have artificial or genetically engineered pets--some of which bear no resemblance to any creature on Earth.
Music-The most popular genre of music is a combination of plucked strings and synth notes. They usually are accompanied by a single non-verbal vocal track.
Religion- The population is mostly Atheist, but the two most common religions are Christianity and Islam.

Geography-
The Chinese Empire
This covers a great deal of land, encompassing Pakistan, Afghanistan, most of Indochina, and all of what was Russia. This country is at odds with the US.
Mars Colonies
The first Mars settlement was established in 2082, and since then 12 more have appeared. The population of this civilian colony is around 10,000 people. Jobs are more plentiful on Mars, due to the high demand for manual labor, and new technologies to make life on the red planet easier.
The second Mars settlement was established in 2134, by the Chinese Empire. It is used primarily as a platform for military operations.
Geography of the United States
-Some states have merged to increase the country’s efficiency.
-The National Capital has been relocated to Cañon City because it Colorado is equadistant to most areas of the country, and because the US Govt. wants to encourage migration from the overcrowded East Coast to more sparsely populated areas.
-The new Govt. building is 2 Kilometers high, and contains all three branches of government. It contains a complete replica of the White house in its upper layers, while the real White House has turned into a museum.
Los Angeles radiation zone
-The country of North Korea effectively wiped out the city of Los Angeles with an H-Bomb in the mid 21st century. The US retaliated by invading the country, occupying it, and claiming it as a U.S. territory.
